Yes, I know, I read your comment history. Bye.

"Western and Ukrainian propaganda wants you to believe so you keep voting for the politicians that prop the regime in Kiev with your tax money"

I'd rather not discuss it with people who can't even spell Kyiv correctly, I'm good.

EDIT: Read your comments, two for two, damn.

Checked out your other comments, wish I would've done so before engaging.

Bye.

neoromantique··on In Ukraine, distributed renewables foil Russia's assaults
Not compared to how much the rockets that are used to hit them cost.
neoromantique··on In Ukraine, distributed renewables foil Russia's assaults
Sure, but they generate civilian electricity, military has generators, and had them for years, so it just doubles the war crime.

>Russia is not doing some ephemeral "inflict pain"

Oh but it is, there is no other explanation why civilian heating facilities are being targeted during winter otherwise, they don't cost much to fix, and actually cost a lot to target, but they do bring a lot of pain to the civilian population (winters in Ukraine are brutal).

And as if it wasn't obvious enough, the anti-ukrainian government bot campaigns that always coincide with the attacks make it obvious beyond belief.

neoromantique··on Kagi added a setting for removing paywalled links from search results
You'd guess wrong, because modern Yandex is essentially Kremlin owned, so it is directly supporting it, not in a huge amount (on account of Kagi being relatively tiny company), but definitely not 'none'.

Also in the discussions about removal or at least asking to make it toggle-able, so users can make sure their requests and money are not forwarded to Russia have been shut off and ridiculed (including staff member saying "our views on the war differ" whatever that meant.

Their support agent in the forum very unambiguously answered to one of the early complaints about the Yandex thing with "Our opinion about war differs", I nope'd out right there and then

Yandex these days is pretty much directly Kremlin, so it's not "through taxes".

That being said Kagi -> Yandex hop does indeed make it indirect.

(I too have stopped using Kagi after I found out that they pay Yandex and employ people who support Russian war).

neoromantique··on Kiki – a tiny homepage construction kit with a small footprint
sure, but I prefer this layout to majority of big tech today.

Gives me flexibility and choice and does not punish me with 600px wide content box because majority of users have trouble grasping the concept of window management.

neoromantique··on Kiki – a tiny homepage construction kit with a small footprint
I would like to introduce a wild concept -- browser window is resizable.

I use mine as semi-disposable device I wouldn't be afraid to lose or get stolen, it is mostly thin client for my bigger devices (over ssh and rarely vnc), encrypted disk and when lid closes it automatically shuts off, so it's a perfect device to always carry including in shadier areas when traveling.

I'm missing netbooks so much, there's just no decent 10" laptops on the market anymore.

I got myself a 150$ N150 chromebook, yoinked a Linux on it and using that, despite the terrible screen and build quality, but at least it is disposable.

neoromantique··on Kindle loyalists scramble as Amazon turns page on old e-readers
It says a lot about our world that artificially discontinuing a fully functional device (thankfully mine are offline and jailbroken) is "pretty incredible".

Sad even

>The problem is that grid scale power plants can't just turn on when the sun isn't shining

They can, though? Batteries can offset the start-up times, otherwise gas plants can start up within minutes and nuclear can ramp up within days

Because having air frames constantly cycling in the air for six weeks straight is hard on both soldiers and air frames, so having a breather for maintenance and recovery is crucial.

And Oil is not crucial for the US at all, it is hitting Europe and poor countries the most by far.

(I'm from Europe)

neoromantique··on The most-seen UI on the internet? Redesigning turnstile and challenge pages
I did not imply that it does, I meant to have a budget allocated for 'unauthenticated deep history queries', when it's over it's over and you only handle dynamic fetching for authorized users until cooldown.

Is it pretty? No, but it also is a pretty niche thing overall (git repo storage).

neoromantique··on The most-seen UI on the internet? Redesigning turnstile and challenge pages
that's a pretty niche issue, but fairly easy to solve.

Prebuild statically the most common commits (last XX) and heavily rate limit deeper ones

Vast majority of websites today can and should be static, which makes even the aggressive llm scrapping non-issue.

You don't lower the cost of killing by improved targeting, you lower it by thugs shooting people in broad daylight with no consequences.

I understand the argument that moving the decision making power to a black box would clear conscience of the operator, yadda yadda yadda, but newsflash, price of human life is falling so quick, that I think we're far beyond the point where it matters.

neoromantique··on IDF killed Gaza aid workers at point blank range in 2025 massacre: Report
by dumb munitions I mean older bombs vs JDAM and alike.

Anyone who seriously speaks words 'nuclear weapon' and 'gaza' together is basically admitting he has 0 clue about the situation and is uninformed larper for either side.

neoromantique··on IDF killed Gaza aid workers at point blank range in 2025 massacre: Report
Israeli settlers are despicable, but even in current government those who support them are minority freaks(who Hamas has empowered very much after October 7th).

Also it is a two way street, there is also a problem of Palestinian settlers, which while I do want to highlight is separate and in no way justifies the Israeli ones, is still a real problem and harnesses a lot of bad publicity when Israel destroys said illegal settlements.

I don't know, just an anecdote:

I populated my Instagram/FB Account with my interests (I mainly have the accounts to follow local racing leagues / marketplaces), and feeds are mostly cars and tech stuff, seldom do I see any thirst traps in it (including reels).

>As a contrast, in the early web, plenty of people were hosting their own website, and messing around with all the basic tools available to see what novel thing they could create

I'm hoping that the already full of slop centralized platforms now with LLM fueled implosion will overflow and lead to a renaissance of sorts for small and open web, niche communities and decoupling from big tech.

It's already gaining traction among the young, as far as I can see.

Gotta hit the search I feel :)
