neon_electro··on Tech workers' fight for living wages and a 32-hour workweek is a battle for all
According to [0] they mention "protecting Kickstarter’s existing four-day, 32-hour workweek".

neon_electro··on We caught companies making it harder to delete your personal data online
I have used Incogni for a few years now, I was a little worried after the first year things wouldn't be worth the price, but I'm noticing that there are data brokers who will happily remove you but not put you on a block-list, meaning that they will happily ingest your information again if it comes to them, and another request from Incogni will be needed to remove it again.

I'm on the fence about whether that's real value delivered from Incogni, but I do think overall it's working to limit some of the spread of my data.

neon_electro··on Solar power has begun to transform the world’s energy system
I have an LG heat pump dryer as well, it doesn't require the app to function as far as I understand.
neon_electro··on Ruby's Timeout is dangerous and Thread.raise is terrifying (2015)
Can you share a reference to what curb is? I can only find a project containing Ruby `curl` bindings.
neon_electro··on Woodworking as an escape from the absurdity of software
This is why linters are configurable; if your team doesn't care about consistent use of semicolons, ignore that linter.

Right?

neon_electro··on Tesla failing to deliver Semi-trucks on time to PepsiCo, Sysco, UPS, and Walmart
I tried to emulate the math you showed, my Chevrolet Bolt EV emits 96g CO2 per mile when considering upstream emissions on the New Jersey electrical grid, my carbon tax on 96kg emissions per 1000 miles would be $17.76.

Does that sound right to you?

neon_electro··on Anatomy of a credit card rewards program
One of many reasons why I still have a TouchID iOS device, and am praying Apple will continue to make them.
neon_electro··on Building Meta's GenAI infrastructure
They are referring to Facebook/Meta’s 2015 “pivot to video”, speculating there may be a similar thing happening more recently with AI.

What does “putting humans through the mud” achieve?
neon_electro··on Researchers shed light on higher energy yields in vertical PV systems
Please ask your dad or whoever does the work on that website to update the home page so that the content does not do the reverse of its "intro animation" just because you scrolled back in the direction of the top of the page.

I was more distracted by that behavior and totally failed to get any value out of visiting your site.

neon_electro··on Digitopia is ruining our lives
Please remember that your experience discovering you were not suffering from ADHD is not shared by all your readers.

I have only been diagnosed after 30+ years of guilt and shame related to procrastination and other behaviors associated with ADHD.

Please recognize some of your readers actually suffer from this.

Can you share your take on why MySQL and not Postgres?
neon_electro··on Fired comedian ordered to get day job back after jokes ruled 'simply funny'
And now they’re losing at least one of them!
neon_electro··on Fired comedian ordered to get day job back after jokes ruled 'simply funny'
Guess what, they’re losing actual donations from people who won’t accept WHYY pulling this shit on workers.
neon_electro··on IRS to begin trial of its own free tax-filing system
Tax law enforcement is not the same as the end user experience of taxpayers.
neon_electro··on Jobs you're applying to might not be real
Costs $millions, but is the employer assuming the employee won’t provide a BENEFIT of $millions through their labor?

I strongly believe that despite being paid six figures, the value of my labor is saving my EMPLOYER upwards of six figures by not having to hire expensive consultants with costs that double what mine are.

neon_electro··on Procrastination is connected to perfectionism
Just remember adults here are also dealing with being diagnosed for the first time, and all of the stigma around how this affects kids affects adults, too.
neon_electro··on Procrastination is connected to perfectionism
I’m sorry you had to go through this, and I’m glad you learned from it.
neon_electro··on A recent software update was not successful. Your vehicle cannot be driven
There are EVs without this problem.
neon_electro··on Cannabis that people are using for anxiety is probably making it worse
Don’t forget the pharmaceutical supply chain itself as another threat to one’s ability to medicate with prescriptions :(
neon_electro··on Auto industry executives admit electric vehicle plans are in jeopardy
Strange, I’ve been driving EVs for seven years and I have just as much ease of mind as you claim to about gas cars.

Maybe it has more to do with how much you need to drive each day?

If you’re putting in triple digits of miles every day, then you have a very different set of constraints compared to someone commuting up to 40 miles a day, which is the United States average.

neon_electro··on Nix Survival Mode: macOS upgrades won't break Nix anymore
Thank you for the heads up about that when upgrading
neon_electro··on Adding crushed rock to farmland pulls carbon out of the air
But still on track to shrink? From your source (thank you for the read):

> Claus concludes, “Based on the Montreal Protocol and the decrease of anthropogenic ozone-depleting substances, scientists currently predict that the global ozone layer will reach its normal state again by around 2050.”

neon_electro··on HTTP/3 adoption is growing rapidly
Link for more info? That seems impossible to make work.
neon_electro··on We don't have senior engineers anymore
Yes, but how long should that feedback take? OP mentioned "minutes"; is "hours" unacceptable?
neon_electro··on We don't have senior engineers anymore
Is this an interview question for the candidate, or a question for the employer? Why should the candidate be writing a skills matrix for an engineering team if that's sounding an awful lot like a management task?

Or am I confusing your post for an eng manager interview and not an IC?

neon_electro··on We don't have senior engineers anymore
Shouldn't it be clear that if you're paying a software engineer $150K, the employer is getting $300-500k in value from their labor?
neon_electro··on We don't have senior engineers anymore
Thank you for saying this, I've had a similar experience to yours and the constant churn of JS technologies and employers' expectations around what it means to be "qualified" has really messed with me the past couple years.
neon_electro··on We don't have senior engineers anymore
Can you elaborate on "within minutes of being asked"? Is "I need a few hours to chew on this" unacceptable?
