nemasu··on A Sealed Garden That Was Watered Once in 53 Years (2017)
50, but...how is that relevant? The article doesn't say half.
nemasu··on A Sealed Garden That Was Watered Once in 53 Years (2017)
I'm still confused, a century is 100 years right? 1960 + 100 = 2060. Am I missing something?
nemasu··on What I learned from reading over 100 weight loss studies
Everyone has their own thing that works. Personally I calorie counted and lost 90lbs (250 to 160). I think the hardest part is keeping it off, especially if something is causing you to eat more than you should be in the first place or if you use it as a coping mechanism.
nemasu··on What I learned from reading over 100 weight loss studies
I did a water fast for 2 weeks. It was...kind of amazing actually, recommend to try it at least once if you can. One tip: when you are done and are ready to break it, introduce food very slowly, I didn't and it was unpleasant to say the least.
nemasu··on Asmttpd: Web server for Linux written in amd64 assembly (2017)
Yup, initially it was for the challenge and to learn some x86_64 assembly. As for usefulness, personally I use it all the time when I need to serve some static content and don't want to set up Apache or nginx or something else.
nemasu··on The Art of Assembly Language (1996)
I love assembly! I think if you know C/C++ it's not too difficult to learn. One thing I noticed is, it can be a bit rough coming back to an old project, I thought I had left enough comments on one of my projects (https://github.com/nemasu/asmttpd), but I was still scratching my head a bit in some places.
nemasu··on Ask HN: What laptop do you use?
I've got an Asus ZenBook with discrete graphics card running Linux. Everything works great. No complaints.
nemasu··on New lithium-ion battery design that's 2,000 times more powerful, recharges 1,000
Article dated "April 17, 2013".
nemasu··on Hands on with the Smallest Game Boy Ever Made
I would love one of these. Since it's open source, I wonder if it's powerful enough to run SNES games.
nemasu··on This is the Razer Phone
Sigh, I was hoping for a new Motorola Razr.
nemasu··on A 1 KB Docker Container
Reminded me of people making docker containers out of this: https://github.com/nemasu/asmttpd

eg. https://hub.docker.com/r/0xff/asmttpd/

7KB web server container.

nemasu··on How do you find integer solutions to x/(y + z) + y/(x + z) + z/(x + y) = 4?
I got "Standard computation time exceeded...".
nemasu··on How to Sleep
Hmm, can people reasonably do 1-3 in places where the sun sets at like 6PM?
nemasu··on The Great Japan Potato-Chip Crisis
Most western countries? I find the produce, especially if it's in season, is much cheaper than the produce in Canada, and it's fresher too. Food in the United States is ridiculously inexpensive.
nemasu··on Show HN: GoboLinux 016 featuring Runner, a filesystem virtualization tool
This is pretty neat! It's nice to see something new/innovative in a distro these days.
nemasu··on The Internet is running in debug mode (2014)
I just recently implemented something using binary websockets, so it's easily possible now.
nemasu··on Full-fledged FPS in WebGL
Same here, and my keys are mapped at the registry level in Windows (at work, don't judge :P). So I got to shoot and look around a bit. Looks awesome though, I just recently started making an engine that targets asm.js/Linux/Windows, makes me want to work on it more once I find a new job.
nemasu··on Xbox and PlayStation hit by 'hack'
Hmm, not sure why I was down voted but anyways, ah yeah the article didn't mention it was a DDoS, it's not even a 'hack' at this point in my opinion.
nemasu··on Xbox and PlayStation hit by 'hack'
Ugh, I was under the impression that 'these days' hacking was harder because people/companies are more informed then they used to be compared to back when the internet was newer ... apparently I was wrong. Lately it seems worse then ever, are companies just cutting corners to save costs? Or are (cr/h)ackers just 'smarter' then the average 'professional IT' crowd?
nemasu··on Xpra: Screen for X
So it's like a 'screen' for X11? I tend to just use a VNC server for this, might have to give this a try next time. Although I would think for non *nix clients, VNC is more practical.

EDIT: Wow, just read the title ... at least I understood what the thing does. -_-

nemasu··on What do you think the most important programming language is?
Assembly
nemasu··on Heat Your House with Someone Else's Computers
Great idea! Except in the summer it would suck if there was no way to vent the excess heat.
nemasu··on SpamMimic: encode your message into something innocent-looking
This is pretty cool, reminds me a bit of something I made a while back: https://github.com/nemasu/utf8encode

It encodes/decodes data into valid UTF-8 characters, please ignore the terrible interface & coding (was more proof of concept) -_-

Can use it to post more information using Twitter (albeit, completely human unreadable).

nemasu··on High-speed camera tracks light at 100B fps
Thought it was too good to be true, from a comment: "This camera only track processes that take place in the gas when through it passes laser pulse. These processes are much slower than the speed at which light moves.".
nemasu··on Wire – Modern Communications Network
Hmm, no Linux client ... and you 'have' to set a picture when you register? Really? I'm out.
nemasu··on A Japanese-based multinational made a CD-based console once
ooo, new terms! Ummmmmm...Wirer? (as in, the Arduino programming language).
nemasu··on Glendix: Bringing the Beauty of Plan9 to Linux
Was about to clone till I found out the last commit (README doesn't count) was on Nov 27, 2009.
nemasu··on Firechat and nearby communication
Ahhh, nice, I was thinking of adding this.
nemasu··on Firechat and nearby communication
I took a look at FireChat, but bluetooth is a bit too 'nearby' for me. Very cool that it's off the grid, but only useful if you're basically right next to them anyways.

I wanted something like: talk to everyone nearby in a football/hockey/tri-d chess stadium, but bluetooth falls a bit short. What would be really cool is if you could set up a relay system through other devices.

I've made (i.e. works, but not polished yet) something similar: http://www.shoutium.com which has ranges of 1-100KM around your current location. It does require internet, so it probably isn't aimed at the firechat crowd anyways. Very few users unfortunately, guess I'll work on advertising after the iOS version is done -_-

nemasu··on Ask HN: A day in the life of a programmer?
Really depends on where you work and what you're working on.

Sometimes it's 50/50 documentation and coding. Other times it's close to 100% coding/bug fixing. If you're at an awesome company, it can be: 75% coding, 10% task tracker fiddling, 15% StarCraft2.

Side note: Having the ability to listen to music is a must for me and has never been an issue.

From my experience the day to day is usually a mixture of:

  Fiddling with Task/Bug tracking software.
  SCRUM meetings.
  Design meetings.
  Documentation.
  Coding.
  Design.
  Talking to clients/other team members/people.
This will vary depending if you're working on something new or supporting/improving an existing product.

All in all software devs have it pretty easy, if you're too stressed out or not enjoying your work ( for an extended period of time, obviously there are deadlines and things that come up that need to be dealt with ), start looking around, there's plenty of work and competition.
