nektro··on We must pace the frontier
i wrote this in anger because coordination feels unlikely; but if it can be pulled off that would be positive
nektro··on google.com/goto: Google's anti-scraping update
residential proxies are one of the leading causes of what's killing the internet right now
nektro··on We must pace the frontier
cat's outta the bag. the time to stop was 5 years ago.
nektro··on An open letter to Dario: if you mean it, open the weights
releasing the weights would be reckless and borderline malpractice
nektro··on I have a theory that software drives people insane
this effect feels only tangentially related to software
nektro··on Rust is tier-1 language at Microsoft
this is fantastic news but it being rustc_codegen_utc and not rustc_codegen_msvc really threw me
nektro··on Any Nix package, live in the browser
so sick, nice work!
nektro··on Portal by Spotify cut my Claude Code token usage by 90%
this page hacks the scroll behavior so i exited immediately
nektro··on Htmx 4.0
fantastic library. htmx has completely changed the way i think about the web in the past year or so
nektro··on It’s so hard to finish an idea that is not yours and is just suggested by AI
Route A is what concretely what is behind those "a select few are seeing 100x productivity increases" posts. agents bring enterprise-level engineering to the IC. your average enterprise PM has no idea how the code works either but knows who to call when it breaks or needs a new feature added. the industry split on agentic use lies in how much and to what degree you believe "but AI is different!" in this analogy
nektro··on AI;DR (AI; Didn't Read)
> Yes, there are certain situations in which we should expect 100% AI-generated copy. Customer support would be a perfect example.

hard disagree on this

nektro··on Working with AI feels more like leadership than coding
being good at "agentic engineering" is directly correlated with being a good eng manager. when you can treat code like cattle that builds features and passes test and not care about the lines. but what's lost is the knowing that someone knows the lines.
nektro··on Everything you do is being recorded
aaand that's enough internet for today
nektro··on Responding to the next frontier of critical cyber capabilities
isn't that like, the founding thesis of anthropic?
nektro··on A year of fighting scrapers on my 1.5 million-page website
> and is niche enough that AI scrapers have not bothered to bypass it yet.

it is not niche. it is state of the art and widely deployed on major websites.

nektro··on Fastmail offers EU data region
they also said in the article it is dependent on them standing up a second EU region. this is simply an announcement of their first.
nektro··on Lost my phone at the office. Claude suggested tracking Bluetooth signal strength
> Out of ideas, I asked Claude how I could find it. It suggested tracking the Bluetooth signal strength, then wrote me a meter in about a minute.

two sentence horror

nektro··on Gentoo bugzilla closed due AI bot scraper overload
> The FOMO is insane.

do we have the same understanding of what fomo means?

nektro··on The Valley of Webhooks
i think a nice middle ground would be the "flip the arrow" but the webhook tells you when the cursor has moved and that's it so you don't hammer the origin server will polls or have N-time stale data.
nektro··on Software for One
this thread is nightmare fuel
nektro··on RFC 10015: Deprecating Obsolete Key Exchange Methods in TLS 1.2 and DTLS 1.2
better url https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/rfc10015
nektro··on Show HN: I was tired of opening 2 tabs for every HN link, so I made a userscript
yes! so frustrating
nektro··on AI companies are shredding rare books
sure, but there's no way you believe that that's not the way they should've been doing it all along, right?
nektro··on Kimi-K3 on HuggingFace
> We could make LLM inference 100x cheaper to run at home efficiently

do you genuinely think that's going to happen?

nektro··on C/C++ projects packaged for Zig
> supposed to be dynamically probed to adapt to different toolchain environments

that's a bygone practice from before compilers were widely capable.

nektro··on Hannah Fry Wins the Leelavati Prize in 2026 for Mathematics Outreach
well deserved :)
nektro··on Kill The Cookie Banner
can we also kill the dark pattern of "accept all" and "choose your preferences" ?
nektro··on Government orders GitHub to remove Bluetooth-based chat app Bitchat: Jack Dorsey
the legitimacy of the state is defined by the citizen's willingness to not replace it
nektro··on Government orders GitHub to remove Bluetooth-based chat app Bitchat: Jack Dorsey
> is not, has never been, and never will be a "goal" of any government on this planet.

this is not a productive outlook to have

nektro··on If coding has been solved, why does software keep getting worse?
no, all three of those softwares should be exceptional and help me do exactly what i'm trying to do with no distractions or bugs
