neilkelty··on What Americans Actually Do All Day Long
Where's exercise contained? I don't mean that I'm surprised it barely registers, but what category is it under?
neilkelty··on 37signals Earns Millions Each Year. Its CEO’s Model? His Cleaning Lady
Doesn't the supply and demand curve set the market equilibrium for the wage/contract,etc? Don't like the job...go find another one.
neilkelty··on Still waking up at 5am to code?
Or just cancel the cable :)
neilkelty··on Yahoo Mail one-ups Gmail with better calendar integration
Are we actually celebrating them adding a link on the Mail page?

Also, this has nothing to do with Mayer - this was likely in the works long before her move was announced.

neilkelty··on Google to include people's Gmail in search results
Why do you consider the search terrible? I think it's one of the best email search experiences out there.
neilkelty··on Installing Rails on a Mac Shouldn't Be As Hard As It Is
Try this - https://github.com/kelsmj/macsetup
neilkelty··on Yammer agrees to Microsoft's $1 billion acquisition offer
I laughed when I read an article about a company ditching email to embrace Yammer. After taking a couple more looks at how it worked, I convinced my company to try it out - it's been fantastic about removing a littering of articles from our emails and putting them into Yammer where people can quickly ignore the noise and discuss the important stuff.

We've also found it a great way to let everyone know that you'll be out of the office, working from home, etc.

We probably aren't perfect in our execution, but it's been a fantastic tool so far.

neilkelty··on A VC-funded startup called WhosHere is trying to steal my social network
If you're reading this - you need to ensure you read the response from WhosHere: https://whoshere.zendesk.com/entries/21514943-the-other-side...
neilkelty··on A VC-funded startup called WhosHere is trying to steal my social network
Since we aren't lawyers, is there a possibility that this guy is actually at fault of infringing upon this startups trademark?
neilkelty··on Things I Should Have Known at 20
Normal?
neilkelty··on Crowdsource Your Company’s Bonuses
What he's saying is that the Unicorn system results in "highly visible/likely to be rewarded by others" work being prioritized by employees over the work that is actually most important to the company.
neilkelty··on All you need is e-mail, e-mail. E-mail is all you need.
It's been years since I've actually encountered this problem. Most of the time the person was lazy, forgetful, or lying to me.
neilkelty··on Github: United States Code
Love the "idea". This has been written about extensively on Quora with some very interesting discussion. * http://www.quora.com/What-can-lawmakers-learn-from-computer-... * http://www.quora.com/What-are-the-nontechnical-barriers-to-a...

I fear we'll find out that we really didn't want to know how the sausage is made.

neilkelty··on Meet the tireless entrepreneur who squatted at AOL
Where did he work during the day as to not be noticed by hundreds of employees?
neilkelty··on FBI: New Jersey Mayor Felix Roque hacked website
Seems funny following of the recent debate on HN about politicians teaching themselves technology/to code.
neilkelty··on Fundable.com Launches - Kickstarter with an angle...
I would prefer to get convertible debt notes instead of equity - would probably be easier for most folks to understand and would avoid having to deal with equity negotiations.
neilkelty··on Getting Real book is now free PDF
What they're doing is actually a violation of their email marketing software provider's Terms of Service (specifically, the Anti-Spam Policy - http://www.campaignmonitor.com/anti-spam/).

That policy clearly states that "This checkbox must not be checked by default, the person completing the form must willingly select the checkbox to indicate they want to hear from you."

Having no checkbox AND no indication you're joining any sort of list breaks the rules set by their provider.

(I'm making the assumption they continue to use CampaignMonitor).

neilkelty··on Getting Real book is now free PDF
You know you've created a following of customers that love you when you upload a PDF file full of content that was published years ago to the Internet and it hits the top of Hacker News.
neilkelty··on California Senate votes to allow self-driving cars
I think his point was that since Nevada acted first - California didn't want to be left behind, so they jumped on board.
neilkelty··on New Heroku Status Site
Just toss it on as an "add-on"
neilkelty··on New Heroku Status Site
Would almost prefer that "RIGHT NOW/ACTIVE" downtime items be displayed separately from the timeline.
neilkelty··on The Toolbox: From Idea to Launch in 10 Hours
Would love to see this done for "SaSS Apps" with the same approach - less "List of Doom".

Thanks for sharing your process...

neilkelty··on The Toolbox: From Idea to Launch in 10 Hours
Try using Bootstrap - there's plenty of resources for ensuring it no longer "looks" like Bootstrap.
neilkelty··on Is Now the Time to Hire MBAs?
Mark Zuckerberg has never been enrolled in a business school, let alone a "world renowned business school."
neilkelty··on 50 Years Ago: The World in 1962
Unfortunately, most users of the Internet, will happily click through 50 slides to view the latest top 10 list. Damn the masses.
neilkelty··on Keen Listings: Craigslist made easy.
From a UX perspective your site doesn't appear to "work," I tried clicking on the two images and the "Buyer"/"Seller" text. Haven't gotten anywhere yet...
neilkelty··on 30 minutes a day
That's an absolutely fantastic idea.
neilkelty··on Some free Rails Tutorial screencasts
You should toss the links you reference into the description of the video (e.g. Your GitHub page).
neilkelty··on ABC takes 5% equity or 2% royalty from all companies that appear on Shark Tank
Am I the only one who would gladly give 5% equity or 2% royalty to appear on shark tank for the promotional/sales opportunities generated from being on the show?
neilkelty··on How we run our agile dev process using only Trello and Google Docs
Any insight on how you prioritize cards? Do you keep the process as simple as "I think A is more important than B, but less important than C." or do you use some sort of scoring mechanism?
