negura··on GitHub is sinking
One shift in perspective I had was realizing that github is not just a code forge, but a social network.
negura··on GitHub is sinking
have you read the submission? have of it is a list of alternatives
negura··on GitHub is sinking
sadly even that isn't an option for me. i spent half an hour yesterday trying to create a github account. i couldn't. my @proton.me got rejected. captchas take several painful minutes to complete. and even when I did manage to create an account (at least the page displayed a success mesage), it got disabled the instant I logged in for "TOS violation". i wish i was joking, but i literally cannot create a github account. a few years ago this would have seemed crazy. but here we are.

i'm stuck having to use google (another pain in the ass) for discovering codebases that contain specific snippets. but some repo contents (such as wikis) are not exposed at all to search engines

negura··on StarFighter 16-Inch
i would highlight two non-tech strengths of starlabs as well: they're based in Europe and from personal experience they have really good customer service
negura··on StarFighter 16-Inch
100% agreed. it upsets me when i see companies like framework advertising themselves front and centre as Linux-first, yet won't sponsor a coreboot port. starlabs, system76 and novacustom actually walk the walk
negura··on Talking to strangers at the gym
there's a famous quote- two things you must not look for: love and death; they will find you when the time comes. so basically just do genuine stuff and it will happen. OP also hints at it when they say it's about doing your hobbies with other people. it's the same with the quest stuff imo. OTOH the PUA-types have the wrong approach because it's the opposite to this. they turn relationships into a goal and look for artificial tricks to make it happen

negura··on U.S. Debt Tops 100% of GDP
it can also mean governments. their loans also benefit from inflation that is higher than interest rates. this is how us & uk got rid of their debt after WW2. it's a way to steal money slowly from bond investors
negura··on U.S. Debt Tops 100% of GDP
> But there are two solutions: reduce spending and/or raise taxes.

there are other solutions, that are more convenient politically than austerity:

- productivity boost

- higher nominal growth through inflation

- financial repression

and in theory there is also the option of defaulting

negura··on UAE to leave OPEC
agreement on fundamental principles at a global level was the american (liberal) context. stepping outside of it leads to discovering a diverse world that you didn't account for before. as an example, even among iranians there doesn't seem to be enough support for the attack on their regime
negura··on UAE to leave OPEC
as i mentioned elsewhere. i don't disagree that america is in a strong position, relatively to everyone else. and has the means to achieve its interests. even without the superficial image of acting in good faith. but the old messaging ("america's tide is lifting all boats" etc) comes across uncalibrated
negura··on Greece to ban anonymity on social media
i've wondered the same recently and came across this resource:

https://www.whonix.org/wiki/Surfing_Posting_Blogging#Stylome...

tl;dr intentionally writing in a different style is very effective and overall the best option

btw one upside to public content being ingested in LLM training data. is that certain writing styles (like using the emdash) become much more common, due to reappearing in generated content. this means that if you continue to write in that style, you will blend in more easily. which makes your own content resist stylometric analysis

and let's not forget the boming of a literal school for girls
negura··on UAE to leave OPEC
> Stop making excuses and defending brutal authoritarian dictatorships.

this style of argument really falls flat in 2026 tho. at least for a global audience. it seems you don't appreciate how much america's image as a champion in good faith of freedom, democracy and prosperity has been shattered. not least because the old neoliberal guard has been busy undermining it (see carney's speech at WEF, where he started by pointing out that not only was the rules based order a lie, but that it is no longer acceptable to pretend otherwise). but now also because US aggression is perceived as directly responsible for the global energy crisis, which is affecting everyone else. america simply doesn't have a high horse to get on anymore

negura··on UAE to leave OPEC
are you implying that the US share in the hostilities is only direct military intervention? because that's not correct. through their alliances, they are additionally responsible for more
negura··on UAE to leave OPEC
people tend to forget the exorbitant privillege of the US. originally this idea applied to USD being the global reserve currency. but it goes so much further. critics of american foreign policy simply lack a sense of proportion. there is so, so much leverage the US has. which they use to do things that wouldn't make sense for any other country. while still coming out on top. i'm glad to see specifics being provided in support of this idea

negura··on Framework Laptop 13 Pro: Major Upgrades and Linux Front and Center
framework advertises themselves as "laptops you own" and "linux-first". but they're misleading you. they're not actually driven by genuine values, but by marketing. unlike the other big manufacturers of linux-first laptops (novacustom, starlabs, system76) framework couldn't be bothered to open-source their firmware. this is despite demand from their own community [0] and the obvious importance it holds in the broader FOSS community (also the reason why they wouldn't be able to get QubesOS certified [1]). they don't deserve all the airtime they're getting
