negrit··on US takes 'richest nation on earth' crown from Switzerland
OP mentioned affordable not top speed.

Fiber optical connexion cost +- 30 euros and "unlimitted" 4G LTE mobile data plan cost +- 20 euros(including roaming). It's a lot more affordable than what AT&T or Comcast offer...

Everyone qualify for healthcare in France, you don't have to take part of a pissing contest about who is the poorest...

Is there a way to know if I'm part of the class action settlement? IIRC I refuse to take part of the lawsuit since I was planning on suing them in small claim court.
negrit··on Summer heat killed nearly 1,500 in France, officials say
In France it's very very uncommon to have AC.
negrit··on California Approves Statewide Rent Control
The perfect way to do it would be to only match the rent increase by the property tax increase. If the landlord isn't getting any increase on property taxes then it's fair for the tenant to not get any rent increase.

negrit··on California Approves Statewide Rent Control
Lets be clear, the reason there is less supply is not rent control.

It's regulations and NYMBYs that prevents any new building with higher occupancy.

negrit··on California Approves Statewide Rent Control
It's only fair to pay market rate rent as a tenant if the landlord pays market rate property taxes. Why should the state subsidies the landlord and not the tenant?

It's mind blowing how landlords forget that the reason the vast majority of them can afford to be a landlord is because they don't pay market rate property taxes.

> If there weren't rent control, market rents would certainly be much lower

negrit··on FCC fines Swarm $900K for unauthorized satellite launch
The problem with "don’t make sense" is that very often they do but the arrogance/mistrust is stronger. Reading the comments on /r/robinhood is very eye opening. There is a big disconnection between the regulators and the regulated.

1, 2 and 3 are just theory not truth.

There are many counter examples of companies paying equal regardless of the location and:

1. Not everyone lives where it cheap. There are many factors when choosing where to live: Friends, family, emotional attachment to a place, ...

2. That's linked to 1, if they choose to move somewhere expensive that's on them, not imposed by the company.

3. Not true, someone unhappy isn't going to stick around just because they can make more money.

...

At the end of the day the main goal of paying less where the cost of living is cheaper is to increase the company profit. It's 100% reasonable but masking the reason behind some "fairness" bullet points is BS to me.

negrit··on DOJ Cautions Employers Seeking H-1B Visas Not to Discriminate Against US Workers
The consulting firms have been abusing the H-1B system for years. I've been documenting it for couple years here: http://www.jobsintech.io/immigration_companies#name=&city=&s...

You can clearly see that the top companies using H-1B visas are consulting firms.

negrit··on H-1B visas: who gets them, where they go
This is a good article but be aware, LCAs and new H-1B visas are not the same. For example when a company is renewing the visa of his employee a new LCAs is submitted.

Same goes when the employee his working for a different worksite or for a different company. Here are the 6 cases when a LCA needs to submitted:

  a. New employment
  b. Continuation of previously approved employment
  c. Change in previously approved employment
  d. New concurrent employment
  e. Change in employer without change with the same employer
  f. Amended petition
I made a website to browse through all LCAs and Perms(Green Card) submitted since 2001 and 2000 for those interested in the subject: http://www.jobsintech.io/immigration_companies
negrit··on Hungarian government briefly proposes to criminalize encrypted services
I can't access the article right now. But I'm fairly certain that a couple of stupid deputies who don't understand anything about technology/cryptology want to introduce a law against it and everyone is going ape shit "Hungary want to criminalize the use of encrypted services".

The same thing happens in France from time to time.
