ndnxhs··on Ask HN: What do recruiters look for in a GitHub profile?
Its incredible that anyone would accept such a horrid term.
ndnxhs··on Robot gripper looks like a wilted flower, but can lift 100 times its weight
Which would be environmentaly disastrous
ndnxhs··on Apple Watch detects irregular heart beat in large U.S. study
My pebble watch lasts 10 days. Its kind of an awkward length though because things that I charge nightly I do all at once but I often forget to change my watch. Thankfully it falls back to dumb time only mode for a day before turning off
ndnxhs··on Show HN: A browser extension which blocks chat/helpdesk widgets
Multiple times actually. The best one was with the i3 3d printer support and I told them my printer is making clicking sounds and the filament isn't going in and they told me to open the print head side door and guide the filament in manually which worked and I was stunned they managed to know that with my description.
ndnxhs··on Show HN: A browser extension which blocks chat/helpdesk widgets
And then they send you a message first to pressure you in to talking as well as making you feel watched
ndnxhs··on YUML – Easy Embeddable Diagrams
I am convinced uml was created to sell expensive tools for using uml. If I never have to see it again I will be happy.
ndnxhs··on Addressing Spotify’s Claims
The writing in this was very unexpected. Reads more like some devs rant post and not an official statement.
ndnxhs··on Addressing Spotify’s Claims
In this case users should also be able to install from outside sources and not be forced to use the app store.
ndnxhs··on College Cheating Scandal: An Admissions Officer Speaks Out
I would rather everyone have access to great education rather than the top 1% have access to outstanding education.
ndnxhs··on College Cheating Scandal: An Admissions Officer Speaks Out
The test also means next to nothing. I know people who failed badly at the test and still got in to uni.
ndnxhs··on College Cheating Scandal: An Admissions Officer Speaks Out
All fairly simple issues that many countries have solved.
ndnxhs··on College Cheating Scandal: An Admissions Officer Speaks Out
If someone doesn't attend or do anything why does it mater. If they never show up then they take no space and they use no teacher time so they cost nothing to "educate"
ndnxhs··on Tim Berners-Lee: 'Stop web's downward plunge to dysfunctional future'
Its the same for clubs who may have a website but for event details you have to check Facebook.
ndnxhs··on India Imposes Complete Ban on Solid Plastic Waste Imports
If plastic was biodegradable that would be pretty much the same thing as burning it. We need to keep it underground in the form of oil
ndnxhs··on How a small group of activists got gas-powered leaf blowers banned in D.C.
I do prefer when the council blows away the leaves on the bike paths because it gives you better grip.
ndnxhs··on Goodbye Docker and Thanks for all the Fish
For me docker is a really convenient way to self host multiple services on one host. In the past I did it without docker and almost every service requires you to add a repo and after you do this a few times you almost always end up breaking your system and having to start again. Docker keeps things clean and easy to manage.
ndnxhs··on An OSI layer model for the 21st century (2014)
What is the point of the OSI layers. It feels like some academic come up with them and everyone has been going through mental gymnastics trying to work out how to fit the real world on to it. The proposed new model doesn't seem to make much sense either. How is IP integrity?
ndnxhs··on How to pass a programming interview (2016)
I started on a side project after getting rejected from one job and the interviewer on the next job said they read the code on my project and said it looked great. This was a fairly difficult project that I'm still working on today. 8 months later and its almost ready to use :p
ndnxhs··on 800M Email Addresses Leaked Online by Email Verification Service
I'd use something else not plus because gmail uses plus so spammers may be aware they can change the plus to anything
ndnxhs··on California bullet train plan likely to run out of money before completion
Well for one, plane trips release massively more carbon. I saw the stats on it and for one route the kg of co2 per person on a train was 3kg and the same trip by plane was over 100kg
ndnxhs··on Gun laws where guns take the most lives
Vehicles should be banned in cities because they are a huge health and safety risk when used as intended. They have an endless list of downsides.
ndnxhs··on San Francisco median one bedroom apartment rent hits a new peak of $3,690
That is their choice. The market will only correct if people make rational choices.
ndnxhs··on San Francisco median one bedroom apartment rent hits a new peak of $3,690
If you don't like the risk/stress there are plenty of other places to live. If you choose to live in SF when you can't afford it then that just not a wise decision. Eventually the prices will even out and you will just have to pay $30 for a sandwich.
ndnxhs··on Teen Becomes First Hacker to Earn $1M Through Bug Bounties
I feel like there are probably a lot of easy targets available. Look at the network requests between the client and server and see if there is anything that looks like its not validated. If you see ids try changing them and see what happens. Quite often it seems that the back end just trusts whatever the client sends. Especially if its a mobile app or a SPA because new devs seem to think the api is only visible to them.

From reading some of these hacks on peoples blogs it seems like quite often they just man in the middle a mobile app and find out the api provides way more info than should be shown to the user and the ui hides it.

ndnxhs··on San Francisco median one bedroom apartment rent hits a new peak of $3,690
The service workers move somewhere else where they can afford to live. The ones that remain can demand a higher price for their work
ndnxhs··on A Woman Who Harvested a Two-Acre Wheat Field Off Wall Street (2018)
All seafood is contaminated with mercury from coal mining/burning
ndnxhs··on YouTube bans comments on all videos of children
HN is self selecting a higher quality audience. The content is interesting to an educated audience, the website contains very little fluff/idle entertainment and the ui is ugly to the average user.
ndnxhs··on Show HN: Expensive Chat – Pay one cent per letter
I'm fairly sure that has been tried before a few times. Is it really needed though? Stack exchange is fairly good for free.
ndnxhs··on Show HN: Expensive Chat – Pay one cent per letter
Now you get a $30 fee on your 1c transaction
ndnxhs··on Why Portland's Public Toilets Succeeded Where Others Failed (2012)
This is a San Francisco problem. In most of the world such a sight would be very rare.
