ndnxhs··on If Dwarf Fortress sells millions on Steam, its creators will give the money away
Dwarf fortress always seems like a brilliant idea wrapped up in a terrible ui and execution. I recently started playing rimworld and its a very similar game but much easier to get started on. The game progressively gives you tips and messages on how to get better and do stuff rather than requiring you to spend hours reading a wiki to get started.

Being paid to do what you love
ndnxhs··on Cycling heaven: The African capital with 'no traffic'
Possible. Although you certainly wouldn't want to use a replica carbon fiber bike because they have a very high risk of shattering while in use.
ndnxhs··on Google will open a new office complex and add hundreds of jobs in Taiwan
Because Google is developing unethical censorship tools for the Chinese government.
ndnxhs··on Google removed my ads-free app for “deceptive ads”
Yes, and its super hard now. When I installed the new android version the only way I could get fdroid installed was flashing it as a system app in the recovery.
ndnxhs··on Linux touchpad like a Macbook: progress and a call for help
Its 100% OS level. I installed Linux mint on my macbook ages ago and my palms were constantly moving the mouse. I then installed fedora and it was back to working perfectly.

One thing I found interesting is you can purposely trigger the palm detection by doing something like putting your finger above the trackpad on the edge and running it slowly down.

ndnxhs··on Google Analytics Opt-Out Browser Add-On
Use Firefox, it supports extetensions.
ndnxhs··on Rethinking Streets for Bikes
I can't see if anyone is turning because cars leave a gap when no one is turning so if someone does show up they are able to turn. Also I don't think overtaking on the drivers side is allowed on a bike.
ndnxhs··on Dell Autism Hiring Program
Seems to be a miscommunication. I use they as a gender neutral way of referring to individuals as the English language doesn't offer a better alternative.
ndnxhs··on Dell Autism Hiring Program
I refer to everyone as they. I don't see why you have a problem with this. My comment doesn't need to contain details of gender.

Ebikes whip up hills with ease that lower power cars struggle on. The main limiting factor is they are limited to 25km/h by motor power but even that isn't too bad.
ndnxhs··on Rethinking Streets for Bikes
Have you ever used a 250w ebike? They are incredibly powerful and they also come with gearing much lower than cars. The power on an ebike does not limit how steep you can go. I took a 250w ebike up a path so steep I had my chin on the handlebars to stop the front wheel lifting off the ground and the motor was powering me up fine.
ndnxhs··on Homosexuality in giraffes and other non-human animals
Shame and peer pressure are also good things often. They help us collaborate and prevent us from acting selfishly. We shame those who do things like litter or steal which prevents this behaviour. If you steal from your friends you will be excluded from their social circle which is enough reason to not do it.
ndnxhs··on Rogue Airbnb listings still exist where short-term rentals aren't allowed
What I mean by that is its not a problem that people are paying for short term high price rentals. The real problem is more housing needs to be built.
ndnxhs··on Dell Autism Hiring Program
Wow, I used to work with someone who ticked every one of those boxes. Incredibly knowledgeable and spent all of their free time reading spec documents and programming. Unfortunately they could be emotionally unstable at times which was had to work around.
ndnxhs··on Rethinking Streets for Bikes
Those multi use paths in my city are almost all full of people on their phones. You basically have to go at walking pace.
ndnxhs··on Rethinking Streets for Bikes
Because physical separation when not done fully usually means a bike path you can't get anywhere on. Being on the main road allows you to go anywhere a car can. Being on a separated path makes it a pain when the separated path is a secondary thought.
ndnxhs··on Rethinking Streets for Bikes
Ebikes have recently become really good and they flatten all hills with ease.
ndnxhs··on Rethinking Streets for Bikes
There is one terrible issue I encounter almost every time I ride to work. In the mornings the traffic is stopped all the way to work. The stopped cars leave gaps next to the side roads so cars coning from the other direction can turn across to reach them. Because there is a wall of cars in between the bike lane and the other side of the road, neither the turning car or I can each each other so the car blindly turns across the road assuming no bikes are coming.

Sounds like there is just a shortage of high density housing.
ndnxhs··on How we manage plans and features in our SaaS app
Having no SSL in a trial will probably make customers worry about the products security and the competence of the devs.
ndnxhs··on Ad Fraud Scheme Drained Users’ Batteries By Running Hidden Video Ads In Android
The internet existed before advertising and it could continue to exist without it. People still desire instant communication and they would pay for it if a free option did not exist.

A lot of garbage like Facebook would fall and real social networks would take place with real interactions not algorithms trying to drive fake engagement.

ndnxhs··on Dyson Lightcycle Task Lamp
I run Linux on my computers and degoogled android on my phone. Do I not deserve to have speakers because I don't run google spyware? Why should speakers even need an app, I just want to plug them in and have sound.
ndnxhs··on Dyson Lightcycle Task Lamp
I reccomend installing lineageos. It works great on the s5 and still gets regular updates.

Its not too hard but you may want to dedicate an hour on the weekend to set it up.

ndnxhs··on Stomach of Dead Whale Contained 'Nothing but Nonstop Plastic'
The plastic in the ocean is mainly fishing nets that are discarded there because its easier
ndnxhs··on Stomach of Dead Whale Contained 'Nothing but Nonstop Plastic'
I'd like to know this as well. The only solution I know is to buy everything at a local farmers market and make everything yourself which seems extremely impractical for most people.

How for example do I not end up with waste shampoo bottles? Its not like I can reuse them because I don't have any way to get shampoo without another bottle.

ndnxhs··on Stomach of Dead Whale Contained 'Nothing but Nonstop Plastic'
In Australia they banned single use bags and now most people bring their reusable ones back to the store to reuse.
ndnxhs··on Stomach of Dead Whale Contained 'Nothing but Nonstop Plastic'
Its not the worst solution. Problem is a load of it doesn't make it to the bin and everywhere that isn't carefully cleaned daily is covered in bits of plastic.
ndnxhs··on Atlassian Acquires AgileCraft for $166M
I'm amazed bitbucket still exists considering both gitlab and github are so far ahead of it. I have to use it at work and its missing half the features I need.
ndnxhs··on Matrix 1.0 – Are We Ready Yet?
Matrix itself can be used for a few things. The main one being instant messaging but it can be used for a bunch of different things. At its core its a way for clients to exchange json messages in a way that doesn't require everyone to be on the same server.

People have built other stuff like blogs on top of it and you could use it for stuff like IoT devices.

It also comes with end to end encryption.
