nayden··on OpenBSD may soon gain further memory protections: immutable userland mappings
thanks for bringing this to our attention. fixed now: https://github.com/bob-beck/foundation-web/commit/d34479b48a...
nayden··on OpenBSD 6.0 released
it is not a joke. http://www.openbsd.org/lyrics.html#60f
nayden··on OpenBSD 6.0 released
this is currently being worked on as I type this reply :)
nayden··on OpenBSD 5.9 released early
Reversing firmware without documentation takes time. Especially when a single developer does it on their spare time as a hobby.
nayden··on OpenBSD 5.9 released early
you are correct. we suck at marketing. which is OK, because the focus of the project is to produce free and quality code. any time we spend in marketing is time we don't spend in the tree.

I can live with that tradeoff.;)

nayden··on OpenBSD 5.9 released early
OpenBSD is a project, not a company. If a company decides to build an OpenBSD AMI and support it, it's the company choice alone. The project has no such goals. This is of course not limited to a company, an individual or a group can do so too.
nayden··on Hackathon Be Gone
Should also add that they are a very different type of events than the ones outlined in this post. Competition is replaced by collaboration. Prizes by internal reward. Junk food by beer drinking.
nayden··on EU study recommends OpenBSD
That used to be a case for a very long time but it is _slowly_ changing. We still mostly rely on contributions by individuals.
nayden··on First release of LibreSSL portable is available
The github repo: https://github.com/libressl-portable
nayden··on Core Infrastructure Initiative
If this fork makes OpenSSL developers be more responsive to patch fixes and have them improve their documentation it's a win for OpenSSL and their users at large.

OpenBSD is already reaping the benefits from a better TSL implementation in -current so it's a win for our project as well.

This is a win win scenario.

nayden··on Core Infrastructure Initiative
The primary goal of LibreSSL is to fix the OpenSSL codebase for OpenBSD. If other communities like the changes there could be a portable versions as alluded by the LibreSSL web site.

Think OpenSSH -> OpenSSH-portable.

nayden··on Core Infrastructure Initiative
To make the code auditing easier a number of code paths irrelevant to OpenBSD were removed.

Once the code is audited and bugs corrected portability is next. This will only happen if the right team is in place, the community wants it, and sufficient funding is secured.

nayden··on A brief history of one line fixes
careful there. we're not all the same -- some are MUCH more paranoid than others and I am yet to meet an antipathetic developer. ;)

But thanks to those who support what we do!

nayden··on Ask HN: What startups use C and Python?
true. you don't need a degree to be an excellent software engineer, but you do need to understand CS fundamentals. although not a guarantee a degree helps you learn them, but if you're smart there's no obstacle of learning them on your own.

yawn!
