My wife shared Obama's yearly instagram post with "his" songs of the year. "Can you turn this into a YouTube playlist"

I could! And with no sleep, I could turn it into a product too. Nostalgia included. (her idea!)

$20 for a domain and burning a chunk of my fast requests quota on Cursor, voila!

This is a testament to fun products you can make overnight. (Technically this was two nights, but the point stands).

So take a photo of your favourite 90's CD, or write in a list of songs, it will automagically turns it into a Youtube playlist.

navpatel··on Show HN: Timey Wimey – Give It a Spin: A Timezone App Designed for Mobile
You should be able to grab any of the cities on the dial and spin them with your mouse. If that doesn't work, could you share your device details? (also if it does work, if you don't mind confirming). Thanks
navpatel··on Show HN: Timey Wimey – Give It a Spin: A Timezone App Designed for Mobile
Yeah, there's some learning curve, which is why we stuck it in the second mode.

They are sharing the same "time", it's just the value of the time is different around the world. The colours should help indicate what's happening in each timezone.

navpatel··on Show HN: Timey Wimey – Give It a Spin: A Timezone App Designed for Mobile
aha! Toggle the top left view to see it in scheduling mode.

yikes, mind throwing us a screenshot? I'm seeing 5PM on my end https://i.imgur.com/wzAS6PT.png
navpatel··on Show HN: Yet Another Covid Map. In 3D for a better sense of proportions
It's totally possible.

Getting good structured covid data that correctly maps to state/county geometry with corresponding IDs can be a bit challenging.

I've done USA/India and Ontario (Canada)

navpatel··on Show HN: Yet Another Covid Map. In 3D for a better sense of proportions
Crazy, is this on mobile? If you don't mind sharing your Hardware/OS/Browser details.
navpatel··on Show HN: Yet Another Covid Map. In 3D for a better sense of proportions
I was looking for town-wise data for my county and there wasn't anywhere that showed the numbers on a map. (This is still not accomplished by this map)

This started my journey of I'm-definitely-not-wasting-my-time-procrastinating-from-work project of making a COVID map.

There's a bunch of great tech that lets you display these amazing 3D maps, and nobody seems to be using it.

Here's my go at it.

navpatel··on Zume, a new startup trying to make a more profitable pizza through robotics
The same thing that happened to stable boys, bank tellers and farmers. In 1870 53% of the labour force were farmers, by 1970 that was 4.6% (https://www.agclassroom.org/gan/timeline/farmers_land.htm). If you told someone in 1870s that 50% of the labour force will be changing their job, they would have a similar reaction.

Granted the speed with which changes are occurring now is much more rapid; if we consider the largest number of people affected in the smallest period of time, it's probably self-driving cars & trucks that will make the greatest impact.

Driving or making pizza isn't exactly high-skill work (in terms of time taken on training), hopefully the transition happens slow enough for these people to retrain for other work.

navpatel··on India (2002)
Looks like "6 Mar 2001" according to the link that goes to the article.

He recently appeared in the news for "quitting" India: http://www.livemint.com/Money/Hii5NshplbswnJpcb0cHgM/Jim-Rog...

navpatel··on Show HN: App recommending free Wifi based on hotspot heuristics and crowd-input
I'm traveling in Argentina right now, and I downloaded the app before heading out. Then saw this screen: http://i.imgur.com/QvaIf0w.png while trying to use it. ... doesn't this defeat the original purpose of the app?
navpatel··on DuckDuckGo Goodies
How did the pass up on the opportunity to call this DuckDuckGoodies?
navpatel··on Hexagon 16384
People seem to be thinking hard about this game.. but if you're spending 1+ second/move it'll definitely take forever.

Think about it like shaking a jar of pebbles, where the heavier ones fall to the bottom. Now simulate this by press Z->A & X->D back and forth You can get a high score pretty quick. And if you see a situation where a low number is stuck at the bottom, make specific moves to get at that one, then go back to shaking the jar!

navpatel··on ChilledLime: A Twitter for Opinions
It looks like you can upvote/downvote other's opinions. Is this being counted towards the totals? Because now you're testing how many people are willing to go through the "Supports", and upvote the ones they agree with, downvote the ones they don't
navpatel··on Show HN: A Speed Reading Bookmarklet
I was going to comment to say ability to pause/rewind would be awesome. Seems like you've already done that! I also like the interaction of selecting the text you want to speed-read.

One thing that might be interesting, is a shortcut to jump to the article where the current word is. This happens when I want to glance at a paragraph above, and don't want to rewind all the way back.

navpatel··on Take $1,000, Trade Once a Day, Make $264 Billion—You Could Have Done It in 2013
Yikes! Nobody tell the author about options. It might cause their brain to explode.
navpatel··on Apple: No Search Results for 'Wozniak'
It's times like these I wish HN had a downvote button. If the statement you're trying to make is that Wozniak is ignored and not given enough credit in the current Apple world, then come out and say that. Not this round about try-to-stir-some-shit bs.
navpatel··on Google Web Designer
It's surprising to me how many people are complaining about the lack of a Linux version. A Linux version would be great! but let's put our idealogical hats aside, and think like a business.

The intersection between their target audience, and Linux is minute! Unless it came for free, investing in a Linux version of the app would have been a terrible use of resources

navpatel··on Bitcoin goes up $10 in just one hour
I happened to click the link exactly when it started falling. I wasn't sure if this was some kind of a joke. And the "&sarcasm=yes" doesn't help either

navpatel··on Dalvik patch for Facebook for Android
This issue has been a colossal pain in the ass! I need this! Are they planning on releasing this code to replace the buffer?
navpatel··on Hello Firefox, this is Chrome calling
I don't think this is an issue. The popup would only capture whatever keystrokes are typed into the popup (as dbaupp illustrated). DataChannels doesn't change the boundaries within which a webpage/Javascript runs
navpatel··on Jetlore Helps Businesses Turn Short Social Updates Into Usable Data
At my last startup (TheSharedWeb) we tried to do something like this, sans the natural language processing work these guys are doing [we used a manual strategy and tried to focus on the presentation]. Anyway, we never really perfected the experience, and ended up pivoting away.

These guys are doing some sort of NLP magic and it seems to work really well. If they could get reddit in the content stream, that would really encompass all the content I'm consuming

navpatel··on Mastering Linear Algebra in 10 Days: Astounding Experiments in Ultra-Learning
I'll leave the discussion of how embellished this post/blog/exercise of MIT Comp Sci in 1 year is to other comments. But! The explanation of Fourier transforms from Scott's notes (http://www.scotthyoung.com/mit/fourier.pdf) is one of the must succinct ones I've read. I've always understood what the transform does, but the nitty gritty on how the equation works was awesome
navpatel··on Suicide is Cheaper
The article is against the absurd health system the US is running. A business idea to put debt collectors in check is not even a bandaid for this problem. There are very legitimate ways people are being screwed in this country. The title is literal and true; it should be very easy to spot how screwed things are when "Suicide in Cheaper"
navpatel··on Watch Darpa’s Robotic Dog Follow Its Master (Video)
Always fascinating to watch these robots, but I really wish they'd show them going over terrain that a wheeled robot couldn't. Isn't that the point?
navpatel··on OS X 10.8 vs. Ubuntu On Apple Hardware, Benchmarked
All these benchmarks are great and all... but in terms of using Linux on a Macbook Pro, the shitty support for the multitouch trackpad/touchpad alone makes linux barely usable. Unless this has changed recently, in which case someone please correct me
navpatel··on Show HN: Indoor Location you can try yourself
Multiple fields actually invented Kalman filters independently and it turns out they are all actually the same thing, they just have widely varying derivations. My personal favourite explanation comes from the textbook: Probabilistic Robotics (2005) by Thrun, Burgard, and Fox.
