nathanmcrae··on Ask HN: How do I improve my command of mathematical language?
My favorite math professor was great because any time he would forget the statement of a theorem or the outline of a proof he wouldn't just go to his notes to remember it, he would out-loud reason his way to the correct version. This would include the minor missteps he made on the way.

Best math lecturing experience I have had by far.

nathanmcrae··on Liability in the Software Supply Chain
If you already don't like the idea of assigning Final Goods Assembler liability to operators of major open-source repositories, I suggest skipping to 'How To Fix The Problem' (of security vulnerabilities in end-user software, especially in IoT devices).

Personally I like the idea of a UL-style or CE-style label at least for IoT devices that asserts that the devices will be automatically updated with cryptographically-certified patches for ~5 years. Then you can manually disable the updates, you just take responsibility for the security of the device.

Interestingly, this article [0] states that the opposite is true: "The research included vintage cars up to 70 years old to see if their less aerodynamic shape meant they killed more bugs, but it found that modern cars actually hit slightly more insects."

nathanmcrae··on Simplifying Board Games
Something that I think goes somewhat in the opposite direction is the Piecepack[0], which tries to maximize the number of games you can play with the minimum components.

"Piecepack is to board games what a Standard Deck of Playing Cards is to card games"

Since it is a common denominator, it enforces some economy in games that are designed for it or adapted to it. I recall a Catan adaptation that had several simplifications in the spirit of the OP.

nathanmcrae··on Ask HN: What is your favorite way to read online content?
I'm using Polar for this and am pretty happy with it, especially with the page marks for reading progress and with the highlighting/annotations.

I'm not too familiar with Zotero. Does it have similar features, or do you just use it for storage and read/annotate in your PDF viewer?
