natch··on SpaceX's Starship launching to orbit for first time ever today
Reusability is harder.
natch··on SpaceX's Starship launching to orbit for first time ever today
The X video stream is flawless.
natch··on Data collected by cars and sold to third parties
Sentry mode. A feature that is turned off by default. Then if you turn it on, You still have to opt in to Sentry at home above and beyond that. Then… have sex in your garage, sure, you can do that.

Then, beyond that, it was rogue employees who were looking at that, and they were caught. I don’t know if they were fired, maybe you do.

natch··on XCancel service is suspended until further notice
This has been debunked.

Since 2008 they have not changed the policy. But sure, the policy could be changed if they changed management. Tesla, to answer your question.
natch··on XCancel service is suspended until further notice
Actual Nazis, sure. But don't believe everything you think.

White nationalist is a wild, wild misreading though. Though not an uncommon one.

The Overton window doesn’t allow talking about all real issues, so people like yourself mistake race as the crux of the matter, when other issues are the real topic.

If you want understanding, work on helping open, not close, the Overton window.

Very well reasoned and it fits a long evolved pattern but what you’re describing fits the mass sociopathic behavior called shunning, as engaged in by some religions like JW if you need a neutral example to think about. It is in no way good for society or for individuals in the long term.
natch··on Ask HN: Fable hacked my piano, can I release the results?
Sure, that goes without saying. That aside, if it is true, the point stands. The word “seems” already covered your point, fwiw.
natch··on Ask HN: Fable hacked my piano, can I release the results?
You bought a hardware device and you own that device?

This decoy notes scheme seems pretty unethical.

Apart from model performance, what harness are people using to come close to Claude Code or Codex workflow styles with tool use, conversations, loops, remote control, etc.?
natch··on Mea Culpa – Dark Hours
Sure, glad to clarify. The value is to point out something that I’ve noticed a lot of people miss as conversations about App Store rejections tend to take a knee-jerk negative attitude toward Apple. Considering the opposite possibility would clear up a lot of false conceptions and raise the quality of discussions.
natch··on Mea Culpa – Dark Hours
I’ve noticed that when a developer cries foul over an Apple App Store rejection, it often seems to be a red flag that there is something fishy about that developer. Gruber, not to his credit, often does not give Apple the benefit of the doubt on these matters. imho he bears some responsibility if he feels duped.
natch··on Stowaway – take the window seat on any plane or satellite overhead
Nice work! I got lost in a clouds only view after setting my location but I’m sure I’ll figure it out, the first couple flights were over an unfamiliar area but worked fine.
natch··on AI-Generated Images Discourage Me from Reading Your Blog
Are you saying nobody should ever do anything with any tool if they cannot reasonably do it without the tool?

I mean personal blogs I agree the writing portion should be personal but does that go for everything? Maybe the author should take the emoji off his page(??!!)

natch··on Zitron: "Everyone Has Been Sold a Lie" on AI [video]
He seems to be saying the cloud provider revenue has something wrong with it because it stems from serving training and inference. It doesn’t follow.
natch··on An LLM-assisted security review of GlobaLeaks: 41 findings for $3,140
Title should not use a minus sign before the dollar amount, that’s super confusing.
natch··on An LLM-assisted security review of GlobaLeaks: 41 findings for –$3,140
Sorry for the meta comment but: Why is such a useful comment “flagged dead” on what appears to be an interesting and pertinent post?

dang, any comments on what could be going on here?

I get it that there may be some indirect promotion happening but that’s natural when information is shared and this doesn’t seem like egregious spam.

natch··on Starlink from 1984
In the “the name got reused” section the article missed the Subaru usage of it.
natch··on SpaceX wants to launch 100k more Starlink satellites for 100x the bandwidth
Bezos and others will balance Elon. Be glad it’s Elon and not Walz or Hans Dieter. And AIs will be in place doing who knows what, so all our current governance will probably be out the window.
natch··on SpaceX wants to launch 100k more Starlink satellites for 100x the bandwidth
Perhaps a public company then? The symbol could be SPCX. Maybe give some shares to US citizens, like in special accounts maybe? This is sounding oddly familiar.
natch··on SpaceX wants to launch 100k more Starlink satellites for 100x the bandwidth
Looks like you stopped reading after the first sentence.

Or if not, what am I missing?

natch··on SpaceX wants to launch 100k more Starlink satellites for 100x the bandwidth
So, communism?
natch··on SpaceX wants to launch 100k more Starlink satellites for 100x the bandwidth
No. We’ve tried that for decades now and it hasn’t worked out very well for getting the world connected. The entire rural earth has been neglected. Even in silicon valley my neighborhood only got fiber this year and its saddled with crappy TV bundle deals, bad mobile apps built with wrapped web pages, poor service, and we-will-sell-your-data anti privacy provisions. Starlink has none of that.
natch··on Show HN: Microsoft releases Flint, a visualization language for AI agents
Since it isn’t mentioned on the page, I’ll mention that accessibility is a really important thing to design in when creating data visualizations.

This podcast (I only have a spotify link) has a really good short interview on this:

https://open.spotify.com/episode/18dHTAxCCeIaLOTch6tRld

The interview is with Frank Elavsky who seems to be a rock star in the field (and no, I don’t know him and am not him) and made a project called Chartability relating to this which has heuristics, principles, and guidelines for a11y audits:

natch··on Department of Commerce has lifted export controls on Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5
They need Lehane or… since OpenAI got him, what is Fabiani up to these days?
natch··on Feds Killed Polestar and Spared Volvo
Having spent some time in California and seen things town by town at a very granular level, I think woke voters are the ones driving Volvos.

So while I didn’t quite follow that reference, it’s true that if Trump were to ban them for simply being owned by China, then he’d be kind of screwed because he’d then have to ban all his own merch like the Trump phone and his made-in-China MAGA hats.

natch··on Feds Killed Polestar and Spared Volvo
It's hard to parse this without concluding that you are perhaps unaware that Volvo is Chinese.
natch··on Apple raises prices of MacBooks, iPads
Yes Gruber's comment about not making Ternus debut with a shit sandwich was right on the money, so I wondered why that alone didn't sway him to think that Apple would do the price increase sooner.
