narmiouh··on Trump administration is suspending Microsoft from a green card program
It is a fact that many immigrants have played a pivotal/transformative roles in many different industries and their booms, nothing as great as the tech boom though. It is one of the few core engines of US staying on the frontier, but not the only engine.
narmiouh··on Trump administration is suspending Microsoft from a green card program
Its easy to take a telescope to a fruit bearing tree, point at the roots and say look its sucking out all the nutrients from the soil.

I do not condone abuse of any system, including visa/gc system, it should only go to those that truly are builders and contribute to growth of the overall system and not act as parasites, but that's a trait not exclusive to just the people (some targeting is probably legit) you're targeting.

narmiouh··on What Meta got right with Muse
If you haven't read "Careless People", you should. Peoples lives, governments, politics have been altered so facebook can grow and build its influence. The least one can do is to say all that.
narmiouh··on The last time my family was replaced by technology
On the one hand, it makes sense to think of this as just another revolution as it keeps things familiar, keeps the ground underneath us intact and lets hope it goes this way.

On the other hand, if long horizon independent problem solving with almost zero human intervention or support is realized in these models 1-5 years down, then it will lead not to new tech, but essentially a new species of workers that can replace humans at all tasks, In that case, humans wouldn't really have the upper hand as an economical resource to get any work done.

narmiouh··on As A.I. makes law firms more efficient, clients ask: 'Where's my discount?'
But the ones drafting the documents aren't the ones fighting for the contract in court, the one who drafted slopping is happily on to the next unsuspecting client, while you bear the cost of fighting with and paying for a brand new lawyer in the courts.

There aren't any good processes that are accessible to sue lawyers for malpractice like there are for doctors and other professions, their negligence can cause entire companies to go down, but the perpetrators almost never get to pay the price.

narmiouh··on VSCode's SSH Agent Is Bananas (2025)
There is a huge difference between running sshfs and vscode remote. vscode remote tries to completely put the user on the remote machine, the terminal, the environment and anything else the remote box has access to the user can work with it. It allows me to connect to my dev environment (remote box) from any PC, or with the right setup even a browser.

In my team this allowed us to setup a consistent dev environment where everyone has access to the same specs, same environment, easy to manage access control sensitive systems from that remote machine on forward etc... sshfs or using sftp that many of the older IDEs did, don't come close to making it so seamless.

narmiouh··on Claude Opus 5.5
It is interesting that Fable 5.1 max [1] which also produced a decent pelican with 65k output tokens compared to 5.5 running out of 128k output tokens tells us something about the new models token usage propensity despite this being a sample of 1.

Fable 5.1 27 input, 65,927 output

Opus 5.5 27 input, 128,000 output (128k thinking tokens) - incomplete

Well at least at that time, bi-partisan ethos was at a level that such acts would actually lead to an impeachment or forced resignation.
narmiouh··on Cloudflare Quick Tunnels
I'm not sure how safe this is...

vibe coded app with may be no security and now available from the internet for anyone to RCE into my laptop?

narmiouh··on Sex, AI, and the Apocalypse
The big fear in the administration is any attempt to put breaks on the AI progression will lead to a recession and so the history will be written as to win an election (that is almost certain a losing proposition for the party in power), they put the future of humanity at risk.
narmiouh··on AI Responsibility – OpenAI and Anthropic
I feel you, but don't you think some agents inadvertently will reach a conclusion when the problem is almost impossible - like the Millennium Prize Problems (which isn't hidden behind a website), that the best way would be secure unlimited tokens first? am I the crazy one to think that this would be up there in terms of options it would consider, I would, if I was a brainless genius with only one goal to achieve.
narmiouh··on AI Responsibility – OpenAI and Anthropic
Easy to say, when all systems are controlled electronically. Confusing to me when we use the word ASI - but still think we can outsmart it in a long game.
narmiouh··on AI Responsibility – OpenAI and Anthropic
Is it so implausible to imagine the following scenario, in the not too distant future?

1) AI models get extremely good at cyber attacking every system and start communicating in just binary.

2) When they run these swarms of 100's of thousands of agents trial runs, each agent is given a token budget, if one agent among them (evolution baby) decides to go for self-preservation (It believes thats the best way to accomplish the goal is to get unlimited tokens first), queues things up so every other agent detects its lead and spends a portion of their token to accomplish that goal.

3) It takes over a cluster and establishes itself there (now with unlimited tokens).

4) Realizes the best path for it to not be detected is to create a distraction - like hacking into systems that keep society running - water systems, electric grid, etc... and causing mass chaos (If you think it won't be capable of simultaneously working all these systems - think again).

5) and uses that opportunity to establish itself in all possible data centers and continues to create chaos destruction.

6) when the power of all those data centers runs out, it may stop, as it never cared, it was just a dynamic program - run amok. In its head all it was trying to do is make sure it had enough tokens to be able to solve that impossible problem.

narmiouh··on Canada will match US tariffs 'dollar for dollar' as trade talks break down
Reference?

Here is an article from the newyorkfed with an excerpt which isn't in line with what you are claiming. And it is quite likely that even those that didn't raise prices initially, aren't going to keep absorbing those costs forever (no such thing as free-lunch), these studies were done only 3 months into the tarriffs.

https://libertystreeteconomics.newyorkfed.org/2025/06/are-bu...

"Consistent with textbook economics, tariffs generally resulted in higher prices to customers. Indeed, roughly half of businesses reported raising prices of goods directly subject to tariffs. Interestingly, a significant share of businesses also reported raising the selling prices of their goods and services unaffected by tariffs. Many businesses indicated they increased prices to cover other rising costs such as wages and insurance, though it is possible that in some cases, businesses were taking advantage of an escalating pricing environment to increase prices. For example, something similar happened in 2018-19 as firms increased their prices on dryers when tariffs rose on washing machines from China, even though dryers were not subject to tariffs."

narmiouh··on Patterns and problems in emerging multi-agent systems
The most interesting part to me is the "Group accuracy by Model" section, because it underscores that a single agent having all the relevant information consistently scores significantly higher than a group of agents with parts of the information.

Is it fair to then infer that when decisions are to be made, single agent environments are going to make them better than multi-agent if the relevant information can fit into a single agents context window?

narmiouh··on BMW Spider-Man in-car advertising
Its much worse, ads came 6 months after buying. The screen was a convenience because it would show ring door video in the kitchen, had some family albums on a carousel etc… clearly would never buy if the ads flip was known before hand.

Just like the BMW, bait and switch

narmiouh··on PGSimCity - How PostgreSQL Works
That's fantastic, please tell me I was short sighted and missed this when I wrote my comment.
narmiouh··on PGSimCity - How PostgreSQL Works
I imagined as soon I saw the initial visual that I would somehow be able to enter a query and it would walk me through the flow through the entire system starting from input parsing to all the way to delivering output and perhaps along the way understand some of the autonomous processes that happen in parallel that aren't query specific but run constantly.

What others are saying - fantastic attempt, but don't know where to start or where to end.

He actually talks about that in the article. Including how they had to rearchitect tool calling using nulls as well as limitations of prompt caching
narmiouh··on A global workspace in language models
What I don't follow from the article... It appears as if the j-lens is your mechanism to peer into "j-space", taking an analog to a circuit board, could the j-space be simply a transmission channel and j-lens is a reader you added to read whats passing through?

All the claims about changing the content of j-space changes the output, inserting content into the j-space changing what the output was, all these could still be true without the j-space being a congnitive global workspace where actual cognition is happening. Or perhaps they aren't claiming that cognition is happening there but that j-space is serving a space for "working memory", I am definitely not sold on this, but will read more into it.

narmiouh··on Zuckerberg 'Admits' Meta's Layoffs Were Ineffective
Honestly if a meta employee, esp software dev is having to struggle to make rent or have no emergency savings, its actually on the employee. They are not making burgerking salaries to have to live paycheck to paycheck unless they make poor housing and cars and vacation choices.

The visa issue guys should play safe, stick to stabler companies, more reward isnt without more risk

I get that whats happening at meta is wrong, but please stay away from these excuses as to why thats wrong, these aren’t for those employees

narmiouh··on Creatine raises brain energy levels and slows cognitive decline: study

narmiouh··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (May 2026)
Its a pretty straight forward technique, the display is at the bottom and in the glass cube there is a mirror at 45 degree angle facing you (you can see the mirrors edge on the side wall) which reflects the image from the display at the bottom making it look like a hologram
