narinxas··on Constraints on physical computers in holographic spacetimes
but this could mean that if black holes are spherical, then it's also possible to compute in them???
narinxas··on Constraints on physical computers in holographic spacetimes
> They seem to be saying that to do a quantum computation there is a minimum volume of space required in which to perform it which grows in relation to the number of qubits.

they say information uses up space. got it...

narinxas··on Firmware Software Bill of Materials (SBoM) Proposal
open source also applies to hardware designs

but where does the software end and the hardware begin anyways?

narinxas··on Firmware Software Bill of Materials (SBoM) Proposal
oh the lengths they go through to avoid open source

in this case the length is about "11–14 minutes" of text

narinxas··on Placemark is going open source and shutting down
it depends, many startups whole purpose for getting founded is getting acquihired, if this the case, then clearly the answer is no
narinxas··on Novel backdoor persists even after critical Confluence vulnerability is patched
maybe "it's not a bug, it's a feature" ?
narinxas··on To free the Baltic grid, old technology is new again
that's not russian. If anybody I'd credit the Romans with it... but let's not forget back when the Romanovs ruled russia
narinxas··on Is capitalism dead? Yanis Varoufakis thinks it is – and he knows who killed it
capitalism will live forever as a component of whatever it is the chinese do
narinxas··on Days of The Jackal: how Andrew Wylie turned serious literature into big business
I read it as: he want the chinese to run tanks over him, cuz that's what really happened in Tiananmen
narinxas··on Wisdom from computing's past
> > Computing being about information first, and the computer being a tool we use to better our lives. 40 years on these these ideas have been pushed to the fringes.

> Maybe this is evolution? Maybe when society runs on information and literally everything is a computer (your car, your phone, your watch, etc..) we've kind of moved on from the mindset of the past when the computer was a 'thing' to use when you need it and not something ubiquitous?

I just think that the capacity to modify our surrounding environment is essential to what makes us human.

if we lose this ability in the computer world we feel as if we're getting choked because as I said, I have chosen to believe that modifying what I consider "my environment" (which for better or for worse includes my computer) is part of what defines me as a human

narinxas··on 37, the median value for the second prime factor of an integer
not in binary notation they're not
narinxas··on 37, the median value for the second prime factor of an integer
we can be more precise now:

the three produced the equation, which pretended that all things were (could be) equalized into equivalence. they called this algebra and parised some monotheistic god; they called this magic and GOTO one.

narinxas··on 37, the median value for the second prime factor of an integer
they lost the competition, but in the end it was them who paid the prize
narinxas··on 37, the median value for the second prime factor of an integer
the tears of clowns...
narinxas··on 37, the median value for the second prime factor of an integer
42 must mean both 41 and 43 taken together. these two primes are a twin prime above 37. and 29 and 31 both take together mean 30. the twin pair below 37
narinxas··on 37, the median value for the second prime factor of an integer
because numbers have a natural meaning. roughly speaking each integer has as many meanings as its value. so 0 and 1 are just the very beginning.

zero's natural meaning is special, it's the void. sometimes the 'variable' stands in as having this meaning, sometimes the variable is zero.

one is the easiest simplest to grasp. its meaning is "I", ego.

two is duality in the broadest imaginable sense. wars are being fought right now over the precise meaning of 3

narinxas··on In the 'Wild West' of geometry, mathematicians redefine the sphere
but when I understand manifolds both contermporary flat-earthers and scientific academics(?) get mad at me?

but I wouldn't claim to understand manifolds, I just understand that they have something to do with flatness perception at small scales (or short distances)

narinxas··on The Apple Network Server's all-too-secret weapon (featuring PPC Toolbox)
> The huge list of projects from that era of Apple really shows how aimless they were.

so there is still hope for google?

but if we take Apple as a guide, this means one of the original founders either gets back in "the game" or they won't be able to use Apple as a guide

narinxas··on Commercial Plant Starts Pulling Carbon from the Air
why not simply let trees do it?

maybe trees aren't as cool as whatever they're doing???

narinxas··on [dead]
> Now, Congress is poised to make those laid-off Americans' job hunts harder.

of course, the whole system is a modern times version of a softened sort of slavery

if/when your employeer firing you means your entire life gets uprooted (either have a job or get out of the country), these employees are incentivized to get abused lest their lives are forcibly changed.

this is also why large multinational companies like to swap people around and have them work in countries other than their original one: it gives the companies more power over the employee enabling the employee to provide ALL the productivity

narinxas··on Olive oil soars, and thieves go after century-old trees in the Mediterranean
all that desperation IS a source of energy, granted the boundaries/gates/walls are administered in such a way to allow harvest... just (maybe toke up and) think about how mitochondria actually work. the 'energy' all comes from gradients of various sorts of presures (like the presure of hunger i.e. desperation)
narinxas··on We Need a Revolution
I've been thinking about the longer term impact of modern user interfaces hiding how the computer works

it will become more difficult to teach how to build computers going forwards...

then again, it has always required a special kind of curiosity to learn about computer internals.. what I'm corncerned about is that we will continue to punish that kind of curiosity as computer technology has become critical infrastructure.

narinxas··on Are we doing this again? Yes, we're doing this again
relax, it's just color VS colour all over again
narinxas··on Are we doing this again? Yes, we're doing this again
pity the british, whose king is already so old that they don't undrestand the smartphone...

no wonder the entire government institution,

from that famous historical island,

is so woefully unprepared to deal with a world where the smartphone is on.

narinxas··on New job has no way of coding locally?
> The way that they code is to make changes to the code by guessing

really real computer science, because there is No other way to really know what the code may do other than experimentally testing and reccording empirically gathered data..... /sarcasm

narinxas··on The first stable release of a memory safe sudo implementation
> Is there something to this Rust language which magically eliminates all chances of any bug being introduced?

apperently, yes... and its the type system, but granted

it's only 'memory safety' bugs... the kind of error that C languages are really suceptible to.

narinxas··on A Video Game That Pays: Lessons Learned from Working Remotely
I had a work colleage who played games BECAUSE he made money from them...

essentially some dumb kid from a real wealthy part of the world would pay my former colleague "peanuts" to upgrade their player and gather other stats.

narinxas··on Show HN: Ladder, open source alternative to 12ft.io and 1ft.io
> site owners can check that the request isn't coming from a Google-published IP and see that it's a fake, right?

just because they can doesn't mean they will... also most "site owners" are (by this point) a completely different people than "site operators" (who I take to be the 'engineers' who indeed can check this IP things)

narinxas··on Ask HN: How would French police locate suspects by tapping their devices?
no. and even if it were then are people whose job is to make sure it never really takes off.

why? because power.

what do do about it? get power. how to do that? dunno. If I told you then my own purported (and protracted) attempts would diminish. at least we don't get assasinated to death anymore..... ahahahaha (just our characters, andor career prospects, etc)

narinxas··on Why people in Google hate Go?
what about Zig?

I think they're a strong contender... it's somehow simpler than Rust

then again the correctness guarantee may be weaker??
