nanoxide··on An informal comparison of the three major implementations of std:string
That one guy even has it's own Wikipedia article https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/P._J._Plauger
nanoxide··on Smart TV is snooping on you. How to limit the personal data it gathers
I can visually distinguish the times my Samsung TV is powered on on my Pi-hole dashboard just from the graphs. It's insane
nanoxide··on Debloat non-rooted Android devices
This doesn't match my experience. Banking apps in Germany often required screwing around with additional Magisk modules, and would often break again after an update. Just not worth the effort.
nanoxide··on National emergency alert system outed prisoners hiding phones
This depends on the country though. Here in Germany the system is only used for actual emergencies, like fires or blackouts. It's not used for missing persons and the like. Though there was a warning about an allegedly escaped lion in the wild this summer. Turned out to be just some boars.
nanoxide··on What happens when you shift a register by more than the register size?
I just wish there weren't so many rather C++ focused posts. The last few months weren't really that interesting for me. I get that there's a limited amount of fun Windows stuff and anecdotes, but these deep dives into Windows API C++ intricacies don't really fit his usual topics
nanoxide··on Ask HN: What EU country has the highest developer salary?
Self taught makes it difficult in Germany unless you have demonstrable and very good experience to show or have excellent references. Might be easier for startups, but for corporates you'll be likely filtered immediately without a bachelor's/master's.

Also good luck finding a reasonably priced flat in metropolitan areas.

Salaries are a lot lower than in the US, 100k+ are uncommon even among C-levels.

nanoxide··on Ordering Photocopies from Japan's National Library
This is cool, I'm imagining the slight confusion of a Japanese librarian to scan three pages of an old computer magazine and ship it to the UK. Curious though, what's so interesting about the TOC to have it physically?
