namesbc··on Elon Musk makes $43B unsolicited bid to take Twitter private
No board is going to accept a low-ball offer, and that assumes Musk is even seriously offering and not pulling another stupid stunt.
namesbc··on New Covid variant BA.2 detected in at least 40 different countries
1. We have never had a lockdown in the US 2. We have never had a mask mandate in the US 3. We have never had a vaccine mandate in the US

You can't claim they didn't work when we haven't tried yet.

namesbc··on Something special is happening in Barcelona
100% wrong. Roads are for everyone. Just because you are in a vehicle you can use as a weapon shouldn't allow you to threaten other road users out of their road.

Just wait patiently and drive at the speed of traffic.

namesbc··on California Bill to Decriminalize Psychedelics Is Approved by Senate
No, it does not. Stop reading reactionary right wing propaganda if you care about reality.
namesbc··on Making Vaccine
Maybe, or you developed and scaled up production of a vaccine that only worked on young healthy adults who don't need it that much, and kills or maims everyone else. Wasting a ton of time, resources, and good will that could have been better spent saving lives instead of getting 20 year olds back to bars.

Remember it wasn't a given that mRNA vaccines were going to work, we were lucky.

namesbc··on Making Vaccine
Or, do the standard vaccine safety and efficacy testing, deploy the vaccine to the people who need it most first, and save more lives.

Optimizing deployment of the virus to bored 20 year olds may be popular among bored 20 year olds, but it isn't the best public health strategy.

namesbc··on Making Vaccine
Not true, HCT would not have speed up the deployment of the vaccine by even one day.
namesbc··on Making Vaccine
Or, this has a 0.0001% of working, and a 20% chance of developing an autoimmune reaction that kills him.
namesbc··on Making Vaccine
The vaccine is going to be deployed to communities at risk first, you can't test vulnerable populations via volunteer challenge trials.
namesbc··on Making Vaccine
No, I am saying that volunteer challenge trials don't test what want to test so their results are useless at best, and murder at worst.
namesbc··on Making Vaccine
This is like a person writing a 100 line python program to search a text file, and claiming they finished a competitor for Google.
namesbc··on Making Vaccine
In order to use this method to test a vaccine for deployment to people over 65, you need people over 65 in your control group.

This means you are choosing people to murder.

namesbc··on Parler drops offline after Amazon pulls support
You are deflecting from the armed militia attempting to breach the house and senate chambers while the lynch mob chants for blood.
namesbc··on Google suspending Parler from the Google Play store
Trump has been warning us since the beginning that he wouldn't accept a loss, and instead take the country down with him.

I think most of us didn't fully realize until this week the consequences of not conceding would be this bad.

namesbc··on Google suspending Parler from the Google Play store
The country went down this path as soon as the Senate refused to convict Trump.

We are now at the point where we have to block violent fascists from organizing the overthrow of our democracy, and that requires deplatforming. We had a peaceful resolution to this in February of 2020, but the GOP chose this path instead.

namesbc··on Google suspending Parler from the Google Play store
Did you forgot what happened this summer so quickly?

Bad police were maiming innocent civilians with no provocation: https://twitter.com/greg_doucette/status/1266752393556918273

The protests were to hold those bad police accountable.

Do not compare people asking for the rule of law to be applied fairly and justly, to a President directing his rally to violently attack Congress and overthrow a democratic election.

namesbc··on California plan for wealth tax on anyone who spends 60 days a year in the state
If you use the term "Homeless industrial complex" then it is immediately obvious that you have no idea what you are talking about.
namesbc··on California plan for wealth tax on anyone who spends 60 days a year in the state
You got fed some right-wing propaganda, and bought it without doing your own research since it matched your priors.
namesbc··on California plan for wealth tax on anyone who spends 60 days a year in the state
Would be so much simpler at the federal level, but if states have to do this first due to the Senate being undemocratic, then perhaps that is the best way.

The Uber/Lyft Ballot Initiative Guarantees only $5.64 an Hour

namesbc··on Gig economy companies spent more than $200M to bankroll Proposition 22
Engineers have workers rights because labor activists fought for them and won.
namesbc··on Gig economy companies spent more than $200M to bankroll Proposition 22
They only count hours that a customers is in the car when calculating that, so it comes out to about $5/hr minimum wage which is below federal minimum wage.
namesbc··on WTF Happened in 1971? (2019)
1970s was the beginning of austerity movement in the US.

Federal government was paying for white people's housing, education, etc. but after the civil rights act a white supremacist nation decided it was better to throw it all away rather than share a bit of success with non-white people.

namesbc··on No excess deaths in Sweden compared to the last ten years
This post is completely unrelated to tech though. If you want to discuss various COVID conspiracies they made a whole website for that called Facebook.
namesbc··on No excess deaths in Sweden compared to the last ten years
This is a tech enthusiast site, not a COVID denial site. Why is this here, and who upvoted it?
namesbc··on Gig economy companies spent more than $200M to bankroll Proposition 22
When software companies switch to on-demand flex labor at below minimum wage everyone on this site who supports Prop 22 will be singing a different tune.
namesbc··on Uber Drivers Sue Company over Pressure to Support Prop 22
The 80/20 split is actually the other way around, 71% of drivers work more than 30 hrs: https://transform.ucsc.edu/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/OnDema...

Drivers earn about $9.21 which is less than minimum wage in most cities. SF has a minimum wage of $15.59: https://www.epi.org/publication/uber-and-the-labor-market-ub...

namesbc··on Chrome is deploying HTTP/3 and IETF QUIC
It is improving performance for EVERYONE. They just published the stats for their own stack so people can compare.
namesbc··on Uber Is Hurting Drivers Like Me in Its Legal Fight in California
Uber functions as a payday loan company. They take advantage of desperation to survive the next month to leave workers in a worse place than if they didn't use them at all.

As a contracted driver, you may be able to pay your next bill by driving, but once car maintenance and taxes come due you will have earned less than minimum wage, and would have made more money working at Starbucks.

This is why most drivers leave after less than 6 months when they have discovered they have been scammed.
