That's not an ad hominem.
It's so bad
I see no citations referring to the current philsophical discourse, unless you mean to imply anthropic's paid people are to be considered to be part of that.
That they "see structures in Claude akin to those we think are associated with human consciousnesses experience in the brain" is if anything discrediting.
XMPP and IRC are not it, for me. Neither give me a better experience nor are they easier for non-techies than matrix.
I also empathize with the people behind the project, as monetization is much more difficult for non-scumbag companies, among which I definitely count Discord, Slack and to a lesser degree Telegram.
As a user though, the speed of improvement has been less than satisfying. It has felt like matrix was just shy of fulfilling its promises for years now.
I still enjoy using it though and am hopeful for its future.
I've heard (and tried) the new experimental webapp. Is that actually something more than an experiment and will this see further development?
I'm asking because I really enjoyed it but felt like it might have been just a test balloon.
I see now that there were actually recent releases on github.
As a user of Element call via the desktop app, I found myself sometimes confused whether I was actually using the new implementation or the legacy version.
Has the move to encrypted calls happened on the non-element-x platforms? Is there a difference between group and one-on-one calls on those platforms?
Is Jitsi still in use anywhere?
The Nazis very happily and intentionally worked together with corporations and the corporations were happy to exploit the free slave labor and lack of competition.
I think this should be taken care of by the employer.
Mostly a desktop/web user myself, hoping all that Element X work will trickle down to us.
Edit: Yes. In 2014. How did I miss that? Used to listen to that podcast, though probably stopped before that.
Data has to be living if it is to be kept alive, so keeping the data within reach, moving it to new media over time and keeping redundant copies seems like the best way to me.
Once things are put away, I fear the chances of recovering that data steadily reduce over time.
I took for granted that I could go into any small stationary store and buy a LAMY or Pelikan any time I wanted as a child.
"Also, a company in my country started making a paper which rivals Yu-Sari and Tomoe River. I write letters with it, and it's great."
Is that available internationally?
You really have to be blessed with the right kind of mix between psychopathy and idiocy to think that he's somebody to listen to.
It didn't help that these attempts were torpedoed aggressively by Microsoft, Google et al.
They always seem to have imagined themselves to sit halfway across the Atlantic instead of a few miles off the French coast.
I bet you were even more bummed though.
It's interesting seeing a myth build around your reasons for the name change already, with the blog post still up. Makes me wonder though how native speakers would have felt about the name after the protests.
I'm not a native speaker, so I don't feel the connotations of the name.
Having had a look at Element X (Android), it actually feels to me like that responsiveness is pretty much the last thing I was missing.
Oh, and the call bug already mentioned in the thread.
I'm really happy with Element and thankful for all the work you guys put into it.
