nacnud··on Two years after LASIK eye surgery
Was that because it worked, or because you couldn't? :)
nacnud··on The miniature accelerator
Space-based particle weapons?
nacnud··on PyDataLondon 2015 Write-up
It might be the corporate firewall I'm behind, but those images all look broken to me.
nacnud··on My favourite “ace” things on amazon
When I use review sites, I'm normally looking for a comparison, so that I can choose the best toaster (for example), or I'm looking for assurance that the product I'm looking at has no major issues. Your site seems to provide more of the latter than the former - perhaps more reviews would help? (But would you want to buy three different toasters in order to compare them?)
nacnud··on Scaleway: Bare metal SSD ARM servers
Oracle provide Java 8 for ARM: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk8... The performance on my little Raspberry Pi went up dramatically compared to OpenJDK when they released it (over a year ago).
nacnud··on Experimental browser built in HTML
It's browsers all the way down.
nacnud··on Notes on watching "Aliens" for the first time again, with a bunch of kids
It's a lil' baby Facehugger! (congratulations!)
nacnud··on Tesla Motors Announces a New Home Battery
Does anyone know if these could be a feasible energy store for people living on the Moon or Mars?
nacnud··on Encryption ban: David Cameron is teetering dangerously close to authoritarianism
It depends where you live. In some countries you are required to disclose an encryption key when required to do so by law enforcement:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Key_disclosure_law#United_Kingd...

.. and if there is no key then you may be in a very difficult position.

nacnud··on Snappy Ubuntu Core and Raspberry Pi 2
This device might be a good candidate for experimenting with sandstorm.io for this kind of thing.
nacnud··on Lost Beagle2 probe found 'intact' on Mars
.. or one inside a mesh cage that can roll and jump in a chosen direction. :)
nacnud··on Lost Beagle2 probe found 'intact' on Mars
Easy to say, but given the shoestring nature of the budget, perhaps more risk had to be taken.
nacnud··on Raspberry Pi inspired autopilot
How do the power requirements for the autopilot compare to that of the rest of the flight hardware?
nacnud··on Show HN: WordsAPI
The alphabet?
nacnud··on Iridium satellite constellation
You still can: http://www.heavens-above.com/IridiumFlares.aspx?lat=0&lng=0&...

(you'll probably need to set your location)

nacnud··on Why YKK? The Japanese company behind the world’s best zippers
Does anyone else think of the 'millenium bug' when they see these zippers?
nacnud··on Bringing SSD Performance to the DIMM form factor
.. and possibly give viruses more places to hide?
nacnud··on Everything you need to know about the Shellshock Bash bug
Extremely good point, thank you. :)
nacnud··on Everything you need to know about the Shellshock Bash bug
Unless I've missed something, could some benevolent person use the bug to cause remote systems to run something like "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install bash", to patch the vulnerability automatically? (it makes lots of assumptions, but surely it's better to have some patched systems as a result.)
nacnud··on A Nuclear Probe to Explore Earth’s Interior
Drop it into a volcano, for example?
nacnud··on System Administrator Appreciation Day
> Error establishing a database connection

Very funny. :)

nacnud··on Data.sparkfun.com: A place to push your data
Xively (formerly Cosm) is a similar service: https://xively.com/dev/
nacnud··on Sleep as a Competitive Advantage
Where do you nap? Does your office provide a suitable place?
nacnud··on µg: Open-source replacements of Google Apps and API on Android
Great start. So will I be able to run a server where I can gradually switch out Google's implementation of services with these as they mature?
nacnud··on Poetica
Keep up the good work! Feedback:

- delete (document) doesn't seem to work

- change history would be good, potentially so I can revert a change if I change my mind later

- the app is clean, intuitive and responsive. I'd love to know a bit more about which JS framework you used, etc.
