All menus lack basic/expected items, both in the menu bar to contextual menus (if they exist).
No standard find and replace. Missing options for pattern matching, diacriticals, case sensitivity, weird UI, etc. if this is included at all.
Low-accessibility, not even basic text to speech support for visual impairments.
Drag and drop support being poor and lacking, both for capturing data and importing data. Despite electron apps being glorified webpages, even selecting content is inhibited in most places.
Odd spacing of controls that is either too much or too little. Everything looks off and stands out in a bad way, like no one cares.
Electron apps are a total UI and UX mess and are worst-class citizens on macOS. If your idea of cross-platform makes a dev add platform specific BASICS, devs will simply not add them, assuming they know or care about them at all.
When I see an Electron app I think “this is an ass app from an ass dev” and throw most of them in the trash.
You mean Obamacare didn't end skyrocketing costs and fix what it purported to? You mean the sole accomplishment of a corrupt President didn't accomplish anything? Say it isn't so!
Now explain why Marxist idiots "need" to "save" it.
Reminder of fake polls pushed by fake news. Almost all of the establishment media reported polls like this leading up to the election. They traded all credibility to shill for their candidate. But Google did, too, so such sites are still considered "news" by Google's standards.
> more than a third of his videos had become demonetized

> "I’m going to have [to be] family friendly from now on"
What daring and original content that's going to be. How "liberal" of YouTube and its massively "liberal" employee base. Such diversity of ideas and language being allowed. Such tolerance.
Most Fake News (NBC, CBS, NYT, etc.) headlined these fake polls while not reporting sampling to their viewers. There's a reason almost all Fake News casters like Maddow were shocked on election night. They bought into their own lies and selective reporting. I learned of the sampling methodology from some of the very sites that Google now reports as "fake" and from Youtubers they have demonetized.
"Polls are used to influence public opinion, not reflect it."
What we're seeing is Google trying to control the narrative through search and monetization now. This is a more-extreme extension of the crap they pulled during the election (where Google search-complete consistently suggested positive things for Hillary and negative things for Trump).
Do you think buzzfeed, printers of the 4chan fanfic "piss dossier" are not notoriously full of bullshit? Have tmz or mtv ever broken any story besides celebrity gossip? Every single "news" organization that printed fake polls for months claiming Hillary would win by huge margins is still considered "News" by Google and not demonetized by Youtube. You claim Infowars is full of shit, but they were spot on with the election coverage and calling the polls being fake and oversampled.
Why is Google's censoring of differing views tolerated?
YouTube defines "politically too extreme" as anything that's slightly left of Fox News.
Google's News tab now promotes tmz, the onion, and buzzfeed as "news" over sites that actually break news and typically go against the "narrative". http://i.magaimg.net/img/co6.jpg
There's a reason I'm dropping all Google products and services from my life.
So CNN, NYT, WashPo, NBC, ABC, CBS, Fox, etc.
We call that a functioning democracy. The EU is the opposite of that.
EU: "You have to accept our way, even if you don't want it and it's bad for your country. It's for the good of our global group."
As opossed to the tribal flag waving from the bureaucrats in Brussels and those they've brainwashed into supporting them?
Most news is pure propaganda. All of the so-called "news" (BBC, etc.) has a vested interest in keeping the status quo. They've tried to brainwash people how Brexit would instantly collapse the econ (didn't happen, did it) and they are continuing that route.
Don't fall for their lies. More self-control is not pride and stupidity.
This move increases his compensation and clout. Post-Tesla, he'll only have VP or founder titles elsewhere, never anything lower-level (unless he gets his old job back). The change must be welcoming, too.
That Apple could not retain him speaks volumes of the company they've become. They're a conglomerate at the intersection of tech and fashion. Groundbreaking engineering is not always given its proper due (or compensation) because there's only so many seats at the table. They've become rigidly corporate and not particularly inspiring.
Good luck to him, and good job taking a chance. Working for someone with a vision other than "thin" must be a welcoming change.
Twitter also very selectively enforces rules about what it judges as hate speech and abuse. Certain people can repeatedly tweet "kill all police", or advocate jihad, or advocate violence towards those who support a particular political candidate, but the moment anyone does even a fraction of the same towards any group that Twitter is in bed with, that person gets shadow banned or permabanned. Note: I'm not advocating hate speech, merely pointing out that Twitter allows it more often than not when it aligns with their politics.
Twitter had a chance to be a platform for open discussion, but its brownshirt employees chose to make it a censorship shithole. Never-turned-a-profit Twitter can go fuck itself – it's not essential and highly filtered.
In over a decade of submitting bug reports to Apple, they've only ever fixed a few of my issues. Most of my reports are easy to reproduce and test. I'm better off spending my time doing clean room reimplementations of whatever their API promises or just scrapping whatever I wanted to do than even wasting time reporting bugs.
"Radar Radar Radar" is all they ever ask. I don't care anymore. The whole process is opaque with no guarantees of a fix or a workaround; it'a unworthy of my time. They have over $100 billion in cash - about time they start testing and fixing more of their own issues.
- Government power and rights > individual power and rights. - Mass surveillance of their own people. - Constitution consistently ignored. - Civil liberties viewed as an annoyance. - Militarized police force. - Secret court systems that "OKs" any government action. - Mainstream media little more than an arm of government propaganda. - Whistleblowers treated like criminals. - Indefinite detention laws ready to be used for any reason. - Can justify any action in the name of "national security". - Political class rules all.
We have a word for this type of government but but no one is talking about it yet. Whatever the outcome to Apple, a government like this will try again and find other ways to do what they want.
How is this even an issue, let alone the basis for a legal case?
But this shouldn't be done because of Swift; this should be done because it's necessary to breathe new life into the frameworks and rethink them for how we work now.
Swift is not ObjC without the C, gets the defaults wrong and should be dynamic by default, and is changing too frequently to provide any of the stability and productivity that good frameworks need to provide. To anyone on the Cocoa team: don't cater to fads (you saw what happened with garbage collection). Make them actually give you Objective C without the C or a language better suited than ObjC to app development before you even consider going out of your way to support it. When that happens, you can have a great refactoring again and call it Cocoa 3...
