n6h6··on Project Gameface launches on Android
That isn't what they said, and it's probably not what they meant.

What they probably meant was that Nintendo testers use their non-dominant hands to simulate someone who has no prior experience with video game controls. (Though I'm not sure exactly what that would mean. Maybe OP meant they use "backwards" controllers with all the buttons swapped?)

n6h6··on Does this 8088 code in the Leisure Suit Larry 2 game do anything?
That's not really a good comparison, no. The code snippet is more comparable to a sentence fragment, which more often than not is "gibberish".

For example, taken out of its original context, this sentence fragment from your comment is meaningless:

"that definition, any language"

n6h6··on What's the deal with Ctrl-Left and Ctrl-right?
I could be wrong, but doesn't notepad++ have an option to choose which symbols are considered a part of a word? If it's not notepad++, I'm thinking of xed.

That would help with at least a part of this person's complaints, like the underscore being considered a part of the word. But it kind of seems like they want the text editor to just read their mind, sometimes considering a symbol as part of a word and sometimes not.

n6h6··on Shittier: Code formatting tool that makes your code look terrible
That would be a good way to destroy the reputation of your company lmao. Leaving nothing but horrors in your wake. Kind of funny, though, even if it's cruel to everyone who comes after you.
n6h6··on Slimming Down Windows 3.1/3.11 (2002)
Beautiful work
n6h6··on A jump into the middle of an instruction from nowhere (2023)
I am glad someone else agrees. It's absolutely horrible!
n6h6··on Why Unix's lseek() has that name instead of seek()
I am curious why you yourself have "blurted out the answer" if you enjoyed the opposite from the article? This isn't a callout or anything, I'm just genuinely curious.
n6h6··on Light can be reflected not only in space but also in time
You shouldn't wear your ignorance with such pride.
n6h6··on An Open Letter to the Python Software Foundation
Yes, that's indeed the point being made.
n6h6··on An Invasive Tick That Can Clone Itself Is Spreading Across the U.S.
On the chance you might not be joking, "liberal use of" means essentially "abundant use of" in this context.
n6h6··on Texas officials warn of rolling blackouts to ease strain on power grid
Because if a baker's oven breaks and they can't provide their service, they cannot charge for their service, and customers can easily go to some other bakery.

Or the people who manually moderate HackerNews just haven't gotten to it yet.
n6h6··on When Linux Spooked Microsoft: Remembering 1998's Leaked 'Halloween Documents'
Anyone know why the fuck the comments on the linked site are talking about Kyle Rittenhouse? Did I miss something?
n6h6··on Quick Start Ep 4: The Unholy Saga of Phoenix Hyperspace [video]
A video about a pretty interesting and ingenious piece of forgotten software. The ingenious part starts at about 48:00 if you lack time or patience.
n6h6··on Dog Mode
Why weren't you able to take meds?
n6h6··on Minecraft Wiki has decided to leave Fandom
They can probably do anything, but why would they when Fandom puts 3 gigabytes of their ads on every page of every wiki on their site? That's their bread and butter. You don't kill your livestock until you have to.
n6h6··on Minecraft Wiki has decided to leave Fandom
How is this not illegal / grounds for having the channel deleted?
n6h6··on FBI chief: China has bigger hacking program than all the competition combined
If "China, India, Iran, Israel, et al" have had AI for a while, the US didn't really "unleash" it, did they?
n6h6··on FBI chief: China has bigger hacking program than all the competition combined
"Unleashed AI"? Really? I don't know what you think has happened, but we've just barely got realistic chatbots. Skynet is nowhere near invented yet.
n6h6··on Microsoft is killing WordPad in Windows
What exactly do you mean notepad can "now" edit text files? I'm pretty sure it could always edit text files.
n6h6··on The technical merits of Wayland are mostly irrelevant
The more I learn about Linux, the more I want to wake up from this nightmare. It is a fragmented hellscape.

n6h6··on Cleaning Up Dead Bodies in AWS IAM
> They even expand the acronyms later in the article.

That's the OPPOSITE of how you're supposed to use acronyms. If you're going to spell it out anyway, why not do it the first time you talk about it like you're supposed to?

n6h6··on Ask HN: Where do I find good code to read?
Who are Adam and Jamie? Mythbusters?
n6h6··on An underwater landslide knocked out two critical submarine cables serving Africa
I read "submarine cables" and imagined a sort of monorail or guide-wire for an underwater vehicle. I thought, "I guess that makes sense, that'd probably be cheaper or safer than an untethered submarine".

It's funny how "good" the brain is at rationalizing misconceptions like that.

If I hadn't read a couple comments to try and see why Africa (or anyone) would need a safety-rope-assisted underwater submarine I might have gone on assuming that was just a normal thing.

n6h6··on NASA mission to a $10k-quadrillion asteroid is two months from launch
What the fuck is "10k-quadrillion" supposed to mean?

n6h6··on Want to pwn a satellite? Turns out it's surprisingly easy
that's actually a good point, I didn't know orbital decay was so slow
n6h6··on Want to pwn a satellite? Turns out it's surprisingly easy
while they don't have the fuel to deorbit themselves, they will eventually deorbit due to orbital decay.

Still, as you said, they won't fall straight down, and would probably burn up in the atmosphere regardless.

n6h6··on Ask HN: How do you handle tech use with your kids?
It absolutely will. They will not be able to participate in almost all modern social interactions. Like, yeah, they will be able to talk to their friends, but only when at school and at sleepovers.

And even then, being excluded from having normal access to a phone still isolates them from "normal" people. Everyone pulls out their phone and all the phoneless person can do is either sit there in jealous silence like a loser or try to get everyone to stop playing on their phones when they're around them (also like a loser).

Overall not an ideal situation.
