n-gatedotcom··on Building TypeScript Projects with Bazel
I am not very familiar with build systems but how difficult would it be to make one that wraps the native ones whenever and provides modern features, unlike make.
n-gatedotcom··on Ask HN: Web dev learner here. How can I improve look and feel of this website?

Look I'm all against separating children from parents when there is no certain proof that they are being trafficked. There should be a children + assumed-parent holding area.

But when I see Chinese being bussed in to make American babies but hardworking immigrants not being citizens, I am firmly against it

n-gatedotcom··on Ask HN: What did you name your username after?

As much as hyper-v. Without sounding disparaging (because this is really cool), its just a one-click application-on-windows-on-hyper-v. So all the pros and cons come with it.

Then make Hyper-v home.

Seriously this is a killer feature needed by everybody. And specially the non-pro users.

n-gatedotcom··on Why Beginning Designers Don't Need to Learn Grids, Type Scales, or Color Theory
Okay. Thank you.
n-gatedotcom··on Reasons Python Sucks
I want to get a vote on indented nested blocks- how many of you like them? Please up the appropriate child comments (if I'm rate limited someone else please make child comments with like and unlike).

My reasoning (please give yours below proper heading)- I'm deadly afraid of refactoring or even accidental indentation change.

n-gatedotcom··on Why we should care about the Nate Silver vs. Nassim Taleb Twitter war
Read very much

Are all your newsletters a blog post too? Because I've been wondering where I can read your stuff in one place.

Thanks, I don't agree with the "good" part of intellij idea. Popular, sure. But slow as hell and ram hungry.

I don't see why one should be well versed in stupid hollywood-isms.:)And hackernews is a derogatory term that I will have you know I am very offended by. Better only than web-boy
n-gatedotcom··on Ask HN: What's a cost effective option for access to academic papers?
Sci-hub

And for a guilt free conscience, donate to a decent non-profit 1usd for every paper. Or directly to authors if there is a way.

Publishers are a racket

What would that be?
n-gatedotcom··on How Sketch Took on Adobe
Why did you specifically talk about budget? Are cpp programmers expensive? What would be cheaper?
n-gatedotcom··on Rust Analyzer in 2018 and 2019
Oh right. I just googled. Why add two canonical sources when the original github does a fine job and is also publicly editable (by pull requests)?

Wasn't emacs farther ahead for full-time programmers though? I'd love to see if there were some historical stats.

You guys created language server protocol, right? I think langserver.org is owned by sg?
n-gatedotcom··on Rust Analyzer in 2018 and 2019
As an end user, one thing I care a lot about is if the dev env would be truly integrated. I want a one-click/command install of everything that I need for my vim to be a rust IDE. I tried in vscode and had to install two different plugins (one of which had a similar name to another and I had to go look up which one to install) python and then lldb using admin permissions which failed on my school computers .

Side: Has emacs been losing traction slowly? It's a third of vim!

Two questions- how do major cloud providers (azure, aws, heroku)handle storage failures?

What are some best practices for personal hard drive crash warly-warning?

n-gatedotcom··on Amazon’s Chips Threaten Intel
What is an example of a commonly used complex instruction that is "simplified"/DNE in RISC? (in asm, not binary)

I don't know what country you're in but in cricket there's a concept of innings and scoring runs. There's this dude who averaged nearly a 100 in every innings, most others average 50.

Now think of the situation as him scoring a few knots. Is he old and retiring? Or is this just a slump in form? Nobody knows!

I worked for a design team and we were proud of our material engineers.
