mzkply··on Localize your cat at home with BLE beacon, ESP32s, and Machine Learning
I bet you Airtags will be put on every cat and dog since it's likely they'll be picked up by everyone's iPhones, not just the owner's.
mzkply··on Comparing iPhone OS 1.0 with iOS 14 using tree maps
Where was this, a competitor like Nokia?
mzkply··on My daughter was a creative genius, and then we bought her an iPhone
The share of iPhone for today's teenagers is much higher than the regular population. Much of it from the natural progression from old iPod Touches, where they built their accounts, apps etc.

Looks like 85% share in the US: http://www.pipersandler.com/2col.aspx?id=287&releaseid=18206

mzkply··on Bias in radiology resident selection against the obese and unattractive?
He's being ironic. As Will Smith's character said in The Pursuit of Happyness, finance is just about being good with numbers and good with people (for which you need rules 1 [Be Attractive] & 2 [Don’t Be Unattractive])
mzkply··on Photos from inside a Typhoon class submarine
I thought Microsoft invented xhtml no-refresh tech just for web outlook no?
mzkply··on Anatomy of a Bubble – Tesla and Bitcoin
best autonomous driving system... on the market today. Nothing's shipping with LIDAR.
mzkply··on Amazon launches Halo: tracks activity, body fat, emotions
Just the body fat calculation using the app is a great standalone feature.
mzkply··on Tech firms begin to abandon Hong Kong because of security law
how do you know this?
mzkply··on Apple’s secretive AR and VR Headset plans altered by internal differences
This is classic Apple, they try to widen the audience that wants a tech by simplifying as much as possible, then finding a key value.

Prime example is the Apple Watch... who "wears" it now? Sports people...

mzkply··on America has more new spaceships on the way
They're not building an orbital capsule...
mzkply··on KH-11 spysat design revealed by NRO’s telescope gift to NASA (2012)
Can't put a drone high up, just under the satellite, and capture the higher fidelity image of what the satellite would have picked up, then train a model top automatically correct the satellite's original image?
mzkply··on After killing investigation, Bloomberg News sought to silence reporter's wife
probably, and mailinator
mzkply··on Zoom sued for overstating, not disclosing privacy, security flaws
Apart from that FBI warning of Zoombombing, I don't know a single non-tech person that's actually aware of all these security concerns, including China privacy.
mzkply··on Boeing Starliner's flight's flaws show “fundamental problem,” NASA says
But what's crazy is that once the capsule disconnects from the second stage of Atlas, the only remaining part of the whole system... is the Starliner. So what other clock could they be looking at? The Atlas V blows up in the ocean.
mzkply··on Tesla remotely removed autopilot features from used Tesla without notice
can't imagine there will be many car brands left without that capability in 10-15 years.
mzkply··on The Boring Company’s Las Vegas tunnel is nearly 50% done
It's just from one end of the LVCC to the other.
mzkply··on The Boring Company’s Las Vegas tunnel is nearly 50% done
Perhaps the timing makes sense, similar to high-rises and how they have their concrete structure complete a very long time before anyone can actually move in.
mzkply··on Airbus A320 Family Non-Normal Notes [pdf]
Context is aviation software has been in the news lately so yNews is geeking out.
mzkply··on Delays in Boeing Max Return Began with Near-Crash in Simulator
Isn't there massive avionics commonality with all other modern Boeing AC? On the Airbus side, all types from A320 to A380 share a significant common core.
mzkply··on SpaceX and Boeing Still Need a Parachute That Always Works
They would still have had to work on parachutes because a Pad Abort uses up all the propellant... leading to a parachute landing just off the beach at the Cape.
mzkply··on SpaceX just filed a request to run 30k more Starlink satellites in orbit
This was likely done to discourage any further investment in competing networks like OneWeb, Telesat, etc.

It'll probably work, especially since SpaceX is also the only network operator that can control launch costs.

mzkply··on Amazon’s Consumer Business Turned Off Final Oracle Database
I guess the only freedom is that of multi-year license contracts.
mzkply··on Announcing your plans makes you less motivated to accomplish them (2009)
That's only if you're talking about major accomplishments, like "I'm gonna make Director by 2021". Ya that's bullshit and bragging. I'm referring to things like saying "Guys i'm gonna not drink for a month" or "I'm gonna finish that damn car repair this summer".
mzkply··on Announcing your plans makes you less motivated to accomplish them (2009)
That has the exact opposite effect on me. I actually use that method to shame myself into accomplishing what I've announced...

Is your site down?
mzkply··on DNA Data Storage: The Entirety of YouTube Could Fit on a Teaspoon

mzkply··on Tourism Is Overwhelming the World's Top Destinations
That might work in Europe, where there are more options than planes. In Canada, and obviously the US, there's no option.
