mylies43··on Questions for believers in AI consciousness
They still have the capacity to, in this case the experiment is being set up so that a being that COULD pass the test on their own CAN NOT when hooked up to a bunch of equipment.

Some people sure, but its hardly universal if you go and talk to people about it
mylies43··on UK military jamming other nations' satellites to defend itself, BBC told
Thats the point, the reasons the apps dont work would be the same reason the websites dont work. They are not work around, I think apps is just mentioned because 90% of people use them over the website
mylies43··on Bend 2 and the Vibe-Coding Trap
I just tried it with chatGPT asking for whats the best hammer to drive in a nail, and it gave me a list of hammer suggestions :p . I drove it a bit further and specified wood screws and while it did point out a screw driver would be better it still kept recommending more specific hammers for driving the nails instead!
mylies43··on NTSB issues investigative update on B-767 runway excursion accident in Miami
I disagree, the situations where you are not fully on the ground but still want those things are minimal, thats a go around need at that point. I bet it would be set off way more accidently then it ever would be on purpose. The systems are also highly redundant so its extremely unlikely they would fail and there would be a valid reason to override the computer.

Plus even in this case it wouldn't have saved them, it was too fast too far, plus Im sure there would be some unpleasantness if both engines went full reverse while one landing gear was still not on the ground, thats gonna be some yaw right there :p . Its kinda like saying what if I need to override ABS?

mylies43··on Corporate America is getting hooked on open-source AI
Well its def not $0.05, I just started using claude sonnet 5 and Ive found most simple questions might be 0.05 cents, a unit test is something like 0.10 -> 0.20 and small features and classes get into the individual dollars. Sure its a lot faster but at the end of the day its not cheap.

Plus there is something to say about being in the drivers seat, youll have a much better idea of how it works instead of needing to talk to claude and hope its correct. Since most LLMs also not very good at ideas even in my experience with better models its better to think for 10mins, youll get a much high quality result

mylies43··on Dutch central bank moves share of gold from U.S., Canada to London
So what? None of this is a surprise at all, if his voters fell for his "president of peace" bit then thats on them, at minimum they KNEW they were voting for a loose cannon who had no morals, cared about himself, insulted everyone around him, had terrible monetary and international policy... He bank rupted CASINOS for gods sake. They had every sign the 2nd time around, anyone who voted for him and regrets it now mainly does so because his bad choices are now personally affecting them lets not get it twisted. They were all happy as long as "others" got owned and not them

Are SF, and LA not built on fault lines? Is Tokyo not built in the middle of them? Is Omaha not right in the middle fo tornado valley? Why do people settle in Florida when it gets hit by tornados. Everywhere has a inherit risk with it, maybe they like it there or are from there. Victim blaming them isnt helpful

I find that what I usually do it just leave the house for a bit too, eithe for a walk, to the gym, or to the grocery store. Having a some moments away from the "bad screen" before the "good screen" is wildly helpful for me.
mylies43··on Civic Hygiene – avoid building technologies that could be used by a police state (2013)
I mean, with limited resources sure, but in your example if we use F35s to drop these supplies we can only drop half or a quarter as much as the supplies. Then we will also need spend a time, money, and resources into maintaining the F35 instead of using those to create and distribute more helpful resources. Its horribly ineffecient and you want to help, you gotta use your resources wisely instead of dropping water pumps from F35 because its cool and already there, Im sure the people in the area would rather 12 hours and get 50 water pumps instead. Then you could also drop in people to help install the water pumps( or doctors if we talking medical supplies). There is a finite amount of time and resources, we shouldnt be wasting them just to make a point.
mylies43··on Being ambitious and being a dad
In my experince we got that, but it was all focused on having a kid while being a teenager will ruin your life not that having a kid at all will ruin your life. Which is fair, a teenager having a child is in a lot of ways ending their lifes or making at a minimum way more difficult( if they family support that is, otherwise good luck )

mylies43··on Supersonic Trebuchet [video]
Would it not be much faster and more efficient to just a use a helicopter to disperse it instead of hiking and setting up a trebuchet? If you are just launching the seed bombs anyways, i feel like a helicopter can cary way more then one person every code, and could just drop a seed bomb every X seconds? Why the need to have people hike out just to launch the seed bombs
mylies43··on How Bluesky draws its logo on screenshots
I think at least in snap it makes sense, the communications are suppose to be ethereal and disappear after reading, I like to know when someone screenshots something and its no longer ethereal

Sorry your argument for something being renewal able or not is based on if it grows on trees? You realize modern infrastructure is generally not growing out the ground or we would not have taken thousands or years to get to this point?

mylies43··on Tesla discloses $2B AI hardware company acquisition in filing
Most of those are pretty fair thou.

>Tesla’s ‘Robotaxi’ expansion looks like another stock pump before earnings - I believe thats fair, they love doing this but Im willing to concede its negative.

>Tesla’s California sales crash 24% as state’s EV market plunges to lowest since 2021 -> Thats just a fact, it also mentions in the headline that the entire EV industry is down a lot in Cali so of course Tesla is heavily affected. If they wanted to just bash tesla it would have been trival to cut that out instead they provide context.

>Tesla’s head of customer experience leaves for Coinbase as talent exodus grows -> Both statements( head of customer experince leaves && talent exodus ). I guess you could make a argument that "talent exodus" is negative but is it not warranted? Its not a good look when a bunch of people leave your company at the same time.

>Tesla launches ‘Robotaxi’ in Houston and Dallas with tiny geofences - The initial area IS tiny it would not be a fair article if that was not highlighted, its just a few neighbors in some of the most sprawling cities in the US. The total area they are operating is in not even 10% of the city, its 30-35sq miles out of 340. The entire metro is ~9,000. That IS tiny especially if we compare it to its competitors that operate throughout entire cities.

What has Tesla done positively lately? Optimus is hardware that exist in many other companies paired with remote people controlling it, the cybertruck is a disaster, the semi has had no news of note, the robotaxi currently does not exist and requires software that has been promised for years and years without actually being delivered so its only fair to be skeptical of it.

mylies43··on Epic Games to cut more than 1k jobs as Fortnite usage falls
I agree with you about the consumer friendlyness at the time and honestly it was not bad at first, but the problems they had were way more technical with difficulties in buying and downloading and hell even just friending someone and jumping in. When it first came out I thought it was decent and improving but then it just....stopped. They could have competed with Valve but it really felt like they stopped caring one day
mylies43··on Epic Games to cut more than 1k jobs as Fortnite usage falls
Reviews for sure but I think you could drop linux and just add it whenever everything is stable, I don't think Linux is that big of a gaming population( though growing, thanks deck! )
