Ruby on Rails is clunky and complicated, and Python is not supported a lot of web hosting plans.If you have millions of dollars in VC funding and your own dedicated servers, Than feel free to use the latest and greatest web languages. Meanwhile, let the rest of us mere mortals use PHP without making us feel inadequate or unintelligent.

If you are using Facebook connect simply to authenticate users,I don't think its worth the risk.You should build your own system for this. If you are doing something more involved and more useful to the facebook user, the risk might be worth it.
