mxmpawn··on Ask HN: When to make the jump to freelance/consultant?
That's something I have to talk with this new customer, I'll try to start with a reduced amount of dedication and then increase it if needed as the project evolves.

Happy to chat, my mail is in the profile
mxmpawn··on Ask HN: Getting software skills when you have almost no time
Leetcode questions were never brought up in the interviews I've had for the time being. There were the kind of questions I've mentioned in the OP and some code exercises.
mxmpawn··on Ask HN: How do you deal with a low ball salary offer?
Yes, I'm not really thinking about doing freelancing hands on work. The only possibility would be to help them come up with a high level solution, as I had built a very similar product in the past.
mxmpawn··on Ask HN: How do you deal with a low ball salary offer?
Why?
mxmpawn··on Ask HN: How do you deal with a low ball salary offer?
Update: I've (politely) declined the offer and told them to 2x the number if they wanted to bring me in. They've asked me if I can work some hours for the rest of the year in order to help the engineering team launch the first iteration of the product and then revisit the proposal in January.

Thanks for all the comments, you're all being very helpful.

mxmpawn··on Ask HN: I've realized I'm a bad software engineer and I'm over 30, what's next?
I really appreciate your (and everyone) help. I've always knew I was behind some things but this real world experience slapped me in the face and now I'm trying to readjust.

My manager has already been aware of my lack of knowledge but I'll talk to him to know if they still want me there. If I keep my job I for sure will be asking for more help at the start of a new project.

mxmpawn··on Ask HN: Jack-of-all-trades of HN, how do you approach job search?
A different situation brought me to a similar experience.

I have a good professional network but it's mostly local (Argentina). I've been planning to live here all my life but it's not a good place to live anymore. I'm planning to relocate to Europe so I had to start with the interview process again and being a "generalist problem solver with software" is getting difficult to get good job offers.

But you would need a company to give you data with nothing visible on return. Do you think a company would do that?
mxmpawn··on Ask HN: Some ideas to try, no time
The problem is, there's a big chance two of them requesting me to renew the contract.
mxmpawn··on Ask HN: Data visualization consultant
My initial interest was in data science but it seems hard to get freelance gigs. But maybe the viz thing could help for smoothing the field.
mxmpawn··on Ask HN: Data visualization consultant
Thanks, I already knew about graphiq and it's a great inspiration, my idea, if the consulting/freelancing works out, would be trying to pivot into a business model similar to graphiq.

What can you tell us about your experience working for them? Do you know how it got started?

mxmpawn··on Ask HN: Data visualization consultant
I've looked at your work, you've got pretty great pieces.

If you don't mind me asking, which kind of organizations are usually interested in your work?

mxmpawn··on Ask HN: Data visualization consultant
Very nice feedback, thanks!. I know Tufte (here in HN there was a topic about his opinion on pie charts) but I've never read something from Stephen Few. I'll definitely check it out.

Regarding the building of some examples, yes, I've already made some of them for the news media job I have, but I'm doing a contract job for a real estate aggregator company (like trulia but from Argentina) and I'm interested in all things regarding public transport. So I think I'll explore these topics and see what sticks.

Great!, I didn't find your email in the profile. Mine is there, glad to have a skype.
mxmpawn··on Ask HN: Publishing on personal vs. "company" blog
Could you provide an example?
mxmpawn··on Ask HN: Publishing on personal vs. "company" blog
You're right, I'm overthinking it
mxmpawn··on Show HN: Similar Phone Finder
Cool app!, any chance you could share the dataset?.
mxmpawn··on Ask HN: Help me bring more value to the table
Thanks for your opinion. I was thinking about giving all modules a priority based on alternative income sources the module could provide(the app for appointments for example) and also considering how relevant is the module in the system.

This way I could change the "refactor this system in 1 year and then we might see the benefits" to "pick several modules, refactor them and add some features/apps taking advantage of it".

mxmpawn··on Ask HN: working with a "bad" programmer
I'm sorry, I had a problem with the submission.
mxmpawn··on Ask HN: Online Supermarkets?
I'm looking for an online store from United States(I'm from another country) to scrape the prices of fresh foods/produce: fruits, vegetables, grains, meat...

The stores I have found only publish packaged foods.

Could anyone point me the right way?

mxmpawn··on Ideas for philanthropic web services?
Hi, I'd like to know more about the projects you're involved. I checked your user info but I don't see your e-mail.
mxmpawn··on Ask HN: Help me name my app
The MVP is pretty simple, the app has three views. The first one, a welcome views with some punctual info about how your bussiness/personal accounts is/are going. The second one, a monthly view with the detailed information about each income/expense. The last one, a view with some charts which displays the information in a useful way.

Nothing fancy, but my idea is to have this app as a "base" and start growing with new features on the go.

What I like about my app is that it's really simple, you don't need to configure nothing and you have a useful app in a few minutes.

mxmpawn··on Ask HN: What charts javascript library to use?
Thanks for your suggestion, I had previously checked Flot but didn't use it because I didn't see a pie chart in the examples. Now I looked again and the pie chart is in the trunk version.
mxmpawn··on Ask HN: What charts javascript library to use?
That's a great library but I'll have to pay u$s360 if I want to use it. In my country it'll be ~u$s1300.
