mvavassori··on WhatsApp became an unstoppable cultural force
WhatsApp dominates in all Western Europe, India, most of South America, most of Africa and more... 3 billion users and counting.

I know that everybody here likes to bash on Google but i tried ddg, bing, qwant, brave search, all the other niche ones (searx, swisscows, etc...), and i found Google to be still better than all of them, especially for technical stuff.

Genuine question(s): Who pays maintainers? Are they even paid? If they aren't paid, why do they do it?
mvavassori··on Show HN: Ell – A command-line interface for LLMs written in Bash
Thank you, i always assume there's some magic part that goes on behind the scenes which i don't understand, especially in things i'm not familiar with... In fact it was just a path mismatch as the error suggested.
mvavassori··on Show HN: Ell – A command-line interface for LLMs written in Bash
I don't know why i keep getting the error:

"FATAL Template not found: ~/.ellrc.d/templates/default-openai.json"

after having cloned the repo in my home directory and created the configuration file in .ellrc in my home directory. Don't know, probably i'm doing something wrong... I'm new to bash projects, why does it search for the templates in .ellrc.d? what's the .d part? I don't understand.

mvavassori··on Snapdragon X Elite is near, which Linux distro for ARM? [video]
There's a lot of interest around the new desktop processors from Qualcomm, mainly because non-Mac people hope to have their M1 moment. The release of the new Snapdragon X Elite is rumored to be set around June 2024. Since Linux is perceived to be somewhat more mature than Windows in this architecture, which ARM-ready Linux distro do you perceive will be the winner on the desktop? And why?

Is hard to beat a pay as you go email provider with no limits on the number of users and domains you can have -> purelymail.com

It's the cheapest option i found, i pay less than 10 $ a year.

It works perfectly on Thunderbird. With CalDAV and CardDAV support you have a standard protocol for your contacts and calendar; very portable.

mvavassori··on Rocky Linux, Reflections on Three Years of Growth
TBF if I were to start a company today i would never choose a RHEL-based distro over a Debian-based one. As a matter of fact almost all startups are already on Ubuntu... To my perspective playing corporate games with the open source community have hurt the public image of "stability" of RHEL-based distros. (Obviously Rocky and Alma have no fault on this)
