murlax··on How to write an effective software design document
We have debated this a lot in our organization. We are tired of seeing low effort Tech docs that puts the onus on the reader than the writer. I think that the writer should spend at least an order of magnitude of time more than the reader. If not, then the design doc can just be the LLM prompt that generated the document.

I have actually resorted back to hand crafting TDDs and focusing on 1-2 page docs. It is a great way to organize my thoughts and create a shared mind space among other engineers. My 2 cents.

murlax··on Stripe Clinches over $7B Deal to Buy AI Firm OpenRouter
Isn't this what LiteLLM is doing? And is Open Source? Maybe I am asking a dumb question because this is the age-old SaaS vs OSS debate, but I am struggling to find the angle here.
murlax··on Cursor removed cost information from the usage page and CSV export
This is basically what I did. In 2023 I moved from VS Code to Cursor. And in 2025 when Opus 4.7 (or was it 4.6?) did that big leap in December, I switched to Claude Code and VSCode for any edits. I come from Sublime Text so those shortcuts are hardwired in me (which was also the defaults in VSCode). When Cursor hijacked literally every CMD key combo, I got fed up and switched back to VSCode. Maybe I should just go back to Sublime Text now lol, since I really just need a blazing fast code reader.
murlax··on Building and Shipping Mac and iOS Apps Without Ever Opening Xcode
Tangentially, I despise Xcode and love the Expo ecosystem and all the lovely tooling that they have built. It is React Native but Expo honestly makes it so trivial to build stuff from the CLI without ever needing to open that abomination of an app. And with AI, I have built a lot of side project apps onto my iPhone, like a homelab app for monitoring my cameras with push notifications whenever someone is at the door, starting my irrigation and a whole lot more. Plus Tailscale of course. Kind of a crazy world that we live in now.
murlax··on Last.fm is now independent
What a blast from the past! I met my ex-girlfriend from half-way across the globe on last.fm. Lots of fond memories of sharing music on this lovely platform.

My first anniversary gift to her was a pro subscription (whatever it was called at that time). I still "scrobble" via Spotify and its still the destination for my 20+ years of listening history.

I am not active on any social media except last.fm... Its crazy that when I die, my music taste is the only thing that will survive in the cloud.
