It's almost funny that Macbook 2009 or newer is supported but Macbook 2009 or newer is not. Sad I won't be able to get my hands on it.
mundanevoice··on Show HN: I created a Github profile widget (learning to code)
Looks cool. Couple of pointers:

- Use a tool like EsLint to lint your code. It will make it more readable and cleaner than it is right now. Maybe integrate your editor with Eslint and it will guide you to write cleaner code.

- You can use underscore templating to inject variables in the template and it will be much more cleaner and maintainable. http://underscorejs.org/

This is a great project. I have been using it for more than 4 years and it has never disappointed me ever. It picks up from the interrupted download, can convert in any format you prefer and get only audio out if you will.

Great work guys! Thanks for creating such an awesome piece of software.

mundanevoice··on Experimenting with mob programming to rebuild the gov.uk Verify front end
I think it's important to take regular breaks because pair programming or mob programming requires a very level of high energy. The code quality definitely improves because of many eyeballs into the problem and provides an instant feedback for the code written.

Fanboyism is such a hip with HN crowd. Not ready to listen to anything, as if downvotes and upvotes could really do anything!

I agree!

mundanevoice··on Why GNU Emacs?
True, But they also do much more things than Emacs does.
mundanevoice··on DjangoCon Europe 2016: Call for Sponsors
Hello! I have been writing Django for more than 3 years now and I think I qualify to give a counterpoint. First, I would agree that Django's documentation could be more beginner friendly. But you know providing excellent cutting edge tool and providing excellent documentation is a very difficult task and it does require some more love.

Django as a framework is very different form traditional CMSes like wordpress, Drupal etc. It is mostly meant to write scalable web services with great speed and has batteries included for example a good ORM, migration assistant, good admin etc.

If CMS is your usecase, you should have tried Django CMS(it is built on top of Django and support great features. (http://www.django-cms.org/en/)

I think you need to understand that every framework or library in the world requires you to read the documentation. There is not shortcut.

However, Django CMS also comes up with a very nice installer(http://docs.django-cms.org/en/develop/introduction/install.h...). It automates almost everything. Whenever you change your model, you generate migrations and run it. python manage.py makemigrations python manage.py migrate

I think coming from other framework/language, just be a little patient and give it another try. If you still feel any issues, feel free to jump in the IRC (#django, #django-cms) and ask your questions. The community is nice and kind enough and you will probably never hit a roadblock.

mundanevoice··on Will Bond (Package Control) Joins Sublime HQ
That's right! But open source doesn't always necessarily means better software. Atom for sure ain't better than Sublime in terms of speed at this point of time.
mundanevoice··on Chirimen, a Firefox OS-Powered IoT Single-Board Computer Developed by Mozilla
I am comparing Go and Rust, not PHP and Go.
mundanevoice··on Chirimen, a Firefox OS-Powered IoT Single-Board Computer Developed by Mozilla
I sympathise with your problem and I understand it must be pretty shitty. But Java is the main language for Android, C/C++ support is via NDK. Since a majority of devs write in Java, naturally more emphasis is given on the Java ecosystem and not the NDK, which is definitely sad. Also, what big Open Source project doesn't have issues? Could you name one?
mundanevoice··on Chirimen, a Firefox OS-Powered IoT Single-Board Computer Developed by Mozilla
Nope, I don't.
mundanevoice··on Chirimen, a Firefox OS-Powered IoT Single-Board Computer Developed by Mozilla
Well, you could say Servo is world class, but on what basis? Rust looks very nice but hardly anyone outside Mozilla is actually using in production as compared to Golang which has a very good adaptation in the community.
mundanevoice··on Chirimen, a Firefox OS-Powered IoT Single-Board Computer Developed by Mozilla
Permission to explore and invent sounds nice and it is very educational. However, It is not a guarantee a good quality product. You need correct decisions and architecture to write any complex software and experience matters a lot in this space.
mundanevoice··on Chirimen, a Firefox OS-Powered IoT Single-Board Computer Developed by Mozilla
Yes, I am familiar with them. The tooling has been really good of late. Android Studio has really improved and it is no longer as bad as it was with Eclipse.
mundanevoice··on Chirimen, a Firefox OS-Powered IoT Single-Board Computer Developed by Mozilla
Well, you have a point but you see, both Rust and Servo are at the nascent stage. We still have to see widespread adoption of Rust. Servo is definitely way behind any browser engine in terms of features and specs and rewriting from scratch might also introduce new bugs(happens with every software product of considerable size). To summarise, both of these are very nice and ambitious goals but I really hope they turn into something nice rather than just an ambitious project(Servo).
mundanevoice··on Chirimen, a Firefox OS-Powered IoT Single-Board Computer Developed by Mozilla
> These days, Mozilla must be less focussed because there's no single dominant threat to focus on.

I don't think this is the right way. Having two much on the plate can actually be negative and you might end up doing nothing really well. I don't think that Mozilla should only be working on Firefox, but rather select few more which manage to do properly. We need a focused Mozilla, not a scattered Mozilla which tend to do everything that's a FAD (For eg: IOT)

mundanevoice··on Chirimen, a Firefox OS-Powered IoT Single-Board Computer Developed by Mozilla
I don't think it's an assumption. Just look at the contributions of some of the senior staff engineers such as Brad Fitzpatrick for GO, Jeff dean to name a few on their projects. I don't see any parallel at Mozilla who could rival them. Well, for really ambitious software projects, you really need someone who has tonnes of experience and can write really good code. Not to say that Mozilla doesn't have any, but I think they are not in the same league.
mundanevoice··on Chirimen, a Firefox OS-Powered IoT Single-Board Computer Developed by Mozilla
Mozilla does so many things. I am afraid they loose their focus on one thing they could have done best. Make the best open source browser of the world. Look how they abandoned firefox OS phones. They shouldn't hope to become Google by doing almost everything Google does. Google is way bigger and has better Engineers.
mundanevoice··on Perl 6 Introduction
It all sounds good but I can do almost everything in Python too right? That too with the cleaner syntax and easy to debug/read code. I hardly see any job openings that requires perl these days unless it's for some legacy Perl project.

mundanevoice··on Assembly is shutting down December 6, 2015
I really liked Coderwall, one of the first product these guys made. But suddenly their focus was on something bigger and much more ambitious. Coderwall had a nice growing user base and I really liked using it. Maybe building simple useful things and focusing on improving them could have been the goal for this team.

However, would like to thank them for their efforts.
