mtrycz2··on EU Open Web Search project kicked off
I mean, do people really want their government to store their biometrics? What could ever go wrong with that?
mtrycz2··on America is a rich death trap
Acutally last was August 21[1].

mtrycz2··on One year on, El Salvador’s Bitcoin experiment has proven a failure
Since we're on a tech inclined site, you'll be happy to hear that an RPi4 can process 256MB blocks in well less than two minutes. Current 32MB size limit on BCH in 8 seconds. Check for yourself.

Bitcoin Cash (the og big block chain) is alive and kicking, and getting stable updates (both features and performance), and also has optional (affordable) coin shuffle). Lightning Network is a security and usability nightmare, and its total liquidity is in the low thousands of BTC (lol).

mtrycz2··on One year on, El Salvador’s Bitcoin experiment has proven a failure
It is a failure because BTC has pivoted away from the Bitcoin whitepaper (p2p ecash), limited its blocksize and has taken the path of this strange "digital store of value" (lol). BTC's activity rose gradually up to 2017, and then topped off at 1MB and even dropped. [1]

If Bitcoin's momentum hadn't been dissolved, it wouldn't require people to be forced by State to accept it.

Also, where in the world do beans cost more than meat?
mtrycz2··on Johnny Mnemonic in Black-and-White
If you take a clip and run it through a desaturation filter it will look aweful. To properly turn an image or a clip into black-and-white, it needs to be done by hand.

Now you have to do this manually for the whole movie. Every scene has to be done separately. But also, it has to be done in a way that is self consistent throughout the movie.

mtrycz2··on The case for language agnostic hiring
Believe it or not, people have professional dev carriers knowing only gasp JavaScript.
mtrycz2··on TikTok’s Poison Pill
They could not even exist without harvesting data - it is their business model.

Unfortunately, the only option is to just leave.

mtrycz2··on The unlikely odds of making it big on TikTok
Nah, just leave. And explain to everyone why they should leave.
mtrycz2··on Books to read to understand financial crime
Just read any recent SEC regulatory action. You'll get things like:

* JPMorgan participated in an illicit scheme for a profit of 5M so they got a 200k fine

* Citadel engaged in fraudulent mislabelings of orders for a total of 280.000 actions of the same type over some three years, got a fine of 100k (for some 30cents/infraction).

* and so on and so forth.

Past a point, it's just the cost of doing business.

mtrycz2··on Congratulations: We now have opinions on your open source contributions
Well then, that's perfectly reasonable.
mtrycz2··on Congratulations: We now have opinions on your open source contributions
I find it bizarre that they don't ask for 2FA for all contributions. Possibly a historical inheritance?

Edit: I now understand that they require a physical device instead of a TOTP app. Yeah, that's the line between reasonable and wtf.

mtrycz2··on Large-scale ‘sand battery’ goes online in Finland
So like, sand?
mtrycz2··on Music for Programming
It depends on the day, but I like to put on some stoner rock/desert rock, or even post rock when I need to concentrate. For example Electric Moon - Inferno, or anything by My Sleeping Karma.

Otherwise, classical music is cool. I also like some mild techno like BT.

But it must be a personal thing, probably.

mtrycz2··on High-intensity exercise, some new news
I think author's point is that

1. All workout types leads to being more in shape 2. HIITs lead to weight loss faster than other types of training.

It is valuable information, if it is confirmed to be true.

mtrycz2··on In defence of garlic in a jar
"In Defence of..." articles considered harmful.

All a needless justification of resisting peer pressure instead of letting it bounce off and enjoying life.

mtrycz2··on Nikon Z9 Disassembly and Teardown

mtrycz2··on $5939 per meter "Audiophile Approved" Mains Cable
Ah yes, I remeber the "ricers" trends for cars and then for PCs, and then for gentoo. Good times.

And then you got this that is the cost of a used car per meter. I hope no one falls for it.

mtrycz2··on I am the healthiest person I know, and I got cancer
1. A healthy diet and activity cannot prevent illness entirely 2. She would possibly have handled the illness not as good, if she was eating junk and out of shape.

Short takeaway: we cannot influence everything about us, but we can influence activity and diet, and it does have a measurable impact on our health.

mtrycz2··on Indian academics throw weight behind Sci-Hub and LibGen in landmark case
If you support better access to academic papers, please support one.surgery[0].

They have a new business model, where only the first X people to request a paper need to pay an amount to access it, after that the payment becomes optional. It's supported by cryptocurrency, so it's accessible to people without banking, if needed. (One of the most legit usecases for crypto I've found).

mtrycz2··on The Humble Brilliance of Italy's Moka Coffee Pot (2018)
Moka (or its lesser known refinement, Brikka) is still the most convenient to me.

It's small. It's 0 maintenance. It's works during blackouts or on a camping stove. Maybe not as fast as an applicance, but still fast.

Compared to a bulky, single-purpose appliance which gives an aftertaste after a couple of months, yeah it's more convenient.

mtrycz2··on Resident Evil Village crack completely fixes its stuttering issues
From the best I can gather, the new CEO is trying to pivot GameStop from a brick-and-mortar company with online presence, to a tech company with a brick-and-mortar presence.

Cryptographically proven digital ownership of content has been (games or in-game content), with freedom of resale, had been a long discussed topic in crypto communities for years. They have not given any details yet, but I do hope that it can be it.

Scaling is still an issue, tho.

mtrycz2··on Resident Evil Village crack completely fixes its stuttering issues
Just imagine if you could simply prove the ownership of a game using well-understood multidecade-old cryptography (in a new way). That's what I hope GameStop[0] can become. Or whoever else.

Additeddly it would only prevent piracy and not cheating, but hey!

mtrycz2··on The Programmer's Brain
Did you already read this one?
mtrycz2··on Clever vs. Insightful Code
We don't write code for computers to run, but for other programmers to read.

Best make it so that they understand it. Who "they" is might be dependent on the situation.

mtrycz2··on Tesla no longer accepts Bitcoin due to climate impact
BTC has pivoted away from the Bitcoin whitepaper in mid 2017, decided to constrain its transactional troughput and went the "store of value" route. It can handle some 4 transactions per second.

An unconstrained version of bitcoin can handle hundreds, and with technological improvements thousands and then tens of thousands of transactions per second. I can already do this on a Raspberry Pi [0] (in controlled conditions).

Bitcoin's footprint is sadly big, but still smaller than that of the banking industry. I foresee a future where most of the mining is done with renewables, as this is what will make the most sense.

mtrycz2··on Signal Is a Government Op
This article breeds uncertainty, without bringing a solution, or even a path, to the table. The references and language used, speak rather clearly that the author is part of the informal "independent research community", ie. conspiracy theorist (which unfortunately I had to acquaint myself with, because of family reasons).

While I'm open for convincing, I'll chalk it up as FUD until convinced otherwise.

mtrycz2··on Grumpy Cat NFT sold for nearly $80K
Coincidentally, that's the entirety of BTC's usecase after 2017's pivot.
