msk-lywenn··on Re-logic gives $100k to Godot and FNA
Also, the engine is rarely advertised, so most of the time you know after the fact.

They were probably already working on it
msk-lywenn··on A CD Spectrometer (2006)
Does using a DVD or Bluray instead of a CD improves the result? The angle might have to be different?

They gave UnrealCLR an epic megagrant. How can you say they "actively blocked it" ?
msk-lywenn··on Show HN: Real-Time 3D Gaussian Splatting in WebGL
Runs fine on my 2016 iPhone SE. kudos
msk-lywenn··on 30 years of The X-Files
Watching all the "mythology arc" X-Files episodes in a row and skipping all of the "monster of the week" episode makes it look like a modern TV show. Very enjoyable. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mythology_of_The_X-Files
msk-lywenn··on .KKRIEGER – Fully Functional Sci-Fi FPS into Just 96kb
Fun fact: they reduced the size of the code by removing any path not taken while playing. That’s why you can’t move up in menus (or something like that), they didn’t press that key while tuning.

I once cooked an egg with the sunlight hitting the window/mirrors of the Cité Mondiale building in Bordeaux. It was a really hot day, it took about an hour, it was the best fried egg I ever had. https://www.beam.fr/phototheque/?context=location%7C83

I think you're describing regedit (although not fuzzy)

I've been searching and can't find it: A in ARC is for automatic, what does the O stand for?
msk-lywenn··on An ARM Assembler Written in Lisp
What kind of memory tagging are you referring to? I can think of W^X, but I don't see how well it compares to lisp stuff.

Best 2D controller is the Japanese saturn one. Better ergonomics, six face buttons and even shoulder buttons.

The n64 joystick gets a bigger and bigger deadzone. It’s different than drifting, in fact it’s quite the opposite: on the n64 you have to push harder to move your character while with the drifting you struggle to get it not to move

msk-lywenn··on Lisp-powered laptop with a battery life measured in years
I dream of a DMG-1000, an original gameboy with a thousand hours battery life because it would have a CPU made with modern technology. This is actually DMG-Infinite! Amazing. Thanks for sharing.
msk-lywenn··on Ambient: The Multiplayer Game Engine
Probably used scaleform. It was used by many games. It was a massive headache for engine programmers. The thing really had very very poor performance... I think it was always heavily hacked so that it could run decently, both the actionscript side and the scaleform side. At least that's what a programmer did for a year to get something decent. I can't believe it could have ended up anywhere else with that tech. Still, it was amazing for artists.

msk-lywenn··on MacBook Pro featuring M2 Pro and M2 Max
It has two USB-Cs and magsafe on the left side, audio jack on the right side. I wish it had an HDMI too. I might buy a USB-C-HDMI cable at some point.

msk-lywenn··on Apple announces full Swift rewrite of the Foundation framework (2022)
I used rust for a while. When I saw and read about swift, my immediate thought was: "hey, this looks like rust's easy mode"
msk-lywenn··on What happens when a CPU starts
No threads. Well, there’s two CPUs so you can count that as two threads. They run completely independently, operating on two different codes with different instruction sets. (ARM9 and ARM7TDMI)

I don’t know what you mean exactly by time scheduling. There are several timers that you can configure and you can set them to raise an interrupt when they finish. They can restart automatically.

There is an interrupt vector for both software and hardware interrupts. Software ones are raised by the swi assembly instruction. Hardware ones are raised by the aforementioned timers but also the display (vertical and horizontal blank), the sound system, wifi, etc. They can be enabled/disabled by setting a specific bit in a specific memory location (IE interrupt enable). Your interrupt handler is supposed to restore registers and clear the interrupt flag at the end.

Context switching is done manually.

I think libnds has an implementation of software threads. I don’t know how they work.

Unity dreams of removing all the C++ code and replacing it with their "High Performance c#", ie. using the burst compiler and manual memory management to remove the GC problem.
