If you need an ML engineer (pytorch or ggml) email hz4944554@gmail.com

I have side projects in Rust, Javascript, C and many other languages. I've worked back end, front end, embedded, built massive web-scale distributed systems and one off prototypes.

Yes I'm short apple (as of August 2025 $206 average price)

msgodel··on Ask HN: Why is it called "Vibe Coding"?
Vibe coding means only looking at the behavior ("vibes") of artifacts, you're never even supposed to see the code.

In other words you're purely playing the PM role rather than the SWE role.

msgodel··on Passkeys are just passwords that require a password manager
>I think people on HN overestimate the security literacy of the average computer user in a personal/corporate setting.

Sure. Provide an escape hatch for the technically literate and let us use our ssh-agent then.

msgodel··on iPhone rakes in 3 times the revenue of any rival
Can it grow though? Apple doesn't seem willing to grow it despite the market treating them like they are.
msgodel··on Job-seekers are dodging AI interviewers
I don't see an issue with this if it means interviews are more common. The complaint here seems to come from a misunderstanding similar to the complaint about technical interviews.
msgodel··on Rising young worker despair in the United States
We're buried in luxury and have no necessities.

You're literally doing the "let them eat cake" thing the boomers have been doing for decades. If you keep doing this you will spend your old age in the streets scorned by the younger generations you've thumbed your nose at. You'll probably have a very nice smartphone though and we'll tell you "why are you complaining? you have such nice luxuries, you should be grateful to us you at least have that."

msgodel··on The Toyota Corolla of programming
The corolla may be boring but it's the well designed kind of boring. I think Python or maybe Java is the Corolla of programming.

PHP is boring and poorly designed. Maybe more like some of the very old Eastern European cars.

msgodel··on 'A black hole': New graduates discover a dismal job market
The higher tier engineers come over on a completely different visa. H1B is just a new version of international slave trade but no one wants to admit it because it sounds bad.
msgodel··on GHz spiking neuromorphic photonic chip with in-situ training
Is this actually capable of propagating the gradient and training more complex layers though?

A lot of these novel AI accelerators run into problems like that because they're not capable of general purpose computing. A good example of that are the boltzman machines on Dwave's stuff. Yeah it can do that but it can only do that because the machine is only capable of doing QUBO.

msgodel··on Rising young worker despair in the United States
We're already at the point where participating doesn't make sense for a lot of workers, that's why tax increases (which must happen if we don't aggressively cut spending and even with the minor cuts we've had there's been incredible wailing) are coming from tariffs instead.

It's very unlikely the federal governments future obligations will be met in real dollars. I've said before "at the end of the day all retirement plans are effectively market driven." I wouldn't want to be depending on social security right now.

msgodel··on The US military’s on-base slot machines
I'm not even sure I like slot machines being available to the general public but putting them on military bases is disgusting.
msgodel··on GHz spiking neuromorphic photonic chip with in-situ training
It's just a single linear layer and it's not clear to me that the technology is capable of anything more. If I'm reading it correctly it sounds like running the model forward couldn't even use the technology, they had to record the weights and do it the old fashion way.
msgodel··on Rising young worker despair in the United States
At this point they've been so extremely neglected it probably doesn't make sense for around ~30% of them to even try with life.

That's the real reason for the high number of drug related deaths IMO.

msgodel··on 'A black hole': New graduates discover a dismal job market
We never needed any, but we have no real say in how our country is run so that doesn't matter.
msgodel··on A study of lights at night suggests dictators lie about economic growth (2022)
Light at night would overstate success for the incumbent US population actually. Since (contrary to popular belief) we're significantly less nationalistic than these other countries and have a much larger and more successful migrant population.
msgodel··on A study of lights at night suggests dictators lie about economic growth (2022)
Not that Hitler is an example of one but there is actually a long history of good dictators. Remember the original dictatorships in Rome were time boxed (among other things) to overcome crises. England had a similar idea in the form of its protectorates. I don't like everything Cromwell did for example but he absolutely was a dictator in all but name.
msgodel··on One Dataset. No Warning. Google Took Everything. You're Not Safe Either
The name "Google drive" implies it's like a hardware disk: unaware of even the filesystem, much less the files, stored on it. Most users likely think of it that way and don't notice until they accidentally trigger things.
msgodel··on Friending
Someone I know who's very "homophobic" justifies it for this reason. He argues that by accepting homosexuality men end up having to think of eachother the way they do women: either just potential enemies or people who might be upset about romantic interests.

I'm not sure that's right but there seems to be something too that idea. It might very well be that at least in the sense we do now widespread acceptance of homosexuality and platonic friendships just aren't compatible.

msgodel··on Ex-Barclays VP who completed a PhD in prison: "All my former colleagues ignore"
As long as we keep bailing out and protecting large financial institutions at the expense of the nations they supposedly serve because "the alternative would be worse" this kind of thing will be encouraged because it's the optimal strategy.
msgodel··on Lina Khan points to Figma IPO as vindication of M&A scrutiny
>nobody actually benefits from this

The secondary market drives the primary market.

msgodel··on OpenAI raises $8.3B at $300B valuation
Enron was an energy futures brokerage/exchange that made the age old mistake of market making your own order book with unlimited margin from... yourself. Always very tempting, never a good idea.

It's exactly the same thing FTX did except with energy instead of crypto.

AFAIK they never misrepresented who they were, they were just very loose with their accounting. It probably started out as a small lie to themselves like those things tend to.

msgodel··on Ask HN: Do you think society will collapse within 10 years?
I think it collapsed at least ten years ago and we're all just going through the motions because acknowledging it is too unpleasant.

In all seriousness societal collapse is extremely slow and not particularly eventful. Look at South Africa if you want to see what that actually looks like in real life. It's not like how Hollywood shows it.

I think it's also important to remember society is not the economy. It's more of a spiritual/social thing that the economy exists within. That's why I can say it's already gone and people just haven't fully acknowledged it.

msgodel··on U.S. fires statistics chief after soft jobs report
Sure that's fine. It looked like we were getting a downturn of some sort this year no matter what the government did anyway just based off the debt term structure.

Don't fire people for reporting data though.

msgodel··on Andrew Ng and Yann LeCun: US Is Losing AI Race Due to Closed Models
It's incredible China is opening their weights and half our companies aren't. It's a complete inversion of how things have worked for so long. Very disappointing.
msgodel··on U.S. fires statistics chief after soft jobs report
I voted for Trump and am not a fan of this. He's been doing a ton of terrible stuff the past few weeks. Very disappointing. Definitely liked the first few months he was in office.
msgodel··on Replacing cron jobs with a centralized task scheduler
Jenkins is terrible for just about everything. Cron has real problems but at least you can version control the crontab. Jenkins is fat, hard to work with since you'll just have one shared instance, and everything is burred in special objects hidden behind a very unergonomic and undiscoverable web GUI.
msgodel··on Unemployment rising in remote-friendly occupations (2024)
Sorry I thought we were talking about the software industry.

It's software. PP&E doesn't matter. If you want the role of the "ownership class" there's a link at the bottom of the page you're looking at just for you.

EDIT: Can't reply right now but you're arguing my point for me.

msgodel··on The untold impact of cancellation
In the limit you'll end up right back around to where we were a few centuries ago with sex outside marriage effectively being illegal.

You'll just call it something other than marriage.

msgodel··on Unemployment rising in remote-friendly occupations (2024)
Why isn't the company there already? America is not the cheapest nor friendliest place to run a business and if there's cheap labor in a foreign country that could substitute for us why not move the business there?

Or alternatively, why are there no foreign startups built with this cheap labor competing with our employers?

msgodel··on Unemployment rising in remote-friendly occupations (2024)
>general "disattachment" people have with their job

At least for me this is a consequence of the instability, extracurricular demands from my employer (signaling our relationship is not important to them) and deterioration in the labor market making my career less of a priority than my side projects (as at least in my mind the expected long term payout has dropped.) Being forced to commute would only exacerbate the situation.

I'm sure the people underwriting the loans will catch on as long as we're not dumb enough to bail them out a second time.
