Lets you get feedback on your iTunes landing page vs a competitor
To your point about much of it being outside of your control... this is true; however the little bit you do control (that tiny description) can make a big impact. I see the service as a way to test the limited copy of your app page.
As a side note... I ran a test with one of my own older (a quotes app) and over 50% of the respondents said they wouldn't pick my app because it was simply randomized quotes instead of categories (competitor) so I did get some insight as to what my potential user values more from a feature perspective as well.
If you want something more meaty I have a working SDK for in-app forms http://www.twothreeform.com and an app in the app store with a working in-app forum (search inspirational quotes, author matt sencenbaugh)
Oh and p.s. if you are viewing http://carlypet.thepetmemoir.com/ and don't see the slideshow up top refresh your page. There is a bug with s3 and the jquery slider I'm using.. still digging into that one.
I think part of the value prop here from mojofiends perspective is that they are providing coffeeshops potential new customers. The coffeeshops that are offering them a $5 coffee don't care if the incoming customer has spent only $1.40 on coffee before today much the same as they don't care whether they bought a new tv yesterday. They just want access to potential new customers.
Groupon has proved how much businesses want potential new customers, I think this is an interesting twist and will perhaps generate better leads for coffeeshops than a groupon would.
I originally did this weekend project to try to start brushing up on my design skills. Anyways it got rejected from ThemeForest so I thought I would open source it for anyone to use if they want / contribute to making it better. Let me know any feedback you have :)
If any members are willing here is my application: Edit: Thank you guys.. got an invite :)
I'll admit I don't have many active repositories but I have had a github account for development on a private repository for over a year and a half.
What's the number of active repositories you need to be able to skip the invite step?
There is a fine line here. In my mind a product should be priced relative to the value it creates for people. If this price point provides more money than one needs to sustain daily life then I think its a perk. Besides that if I make a product that is making more money than I need, that gives me more of an opportunity to do a lot of things. Anything from building better more awesome products to donating my time or money to charity.
Sadly < 2k left in savings isn't nearly enough to allow me to quit school. If you or any other angel investor wants to cut me a small check I would differ out of Stanford and work on the startup for the next 7 months at least :)
Do you have any suggestions on other places to sell?
Thanks for the input though I think that might be the best option at this point.
I would be open to selling the company as its fully functional but haven't received any offers yet since it's low in traffic / not a huge amount of traction (~600 people have registered).
For users you get a minimum of 10 cents for an app and for paid apps the minimum payout is the price of the app itself.
Currently you don't have to provide feedback in order to get apps for free on the service but I am currently exploring a service that provides usability/feedback for a fee from app developers. We will see how it works out and if there is a market for this soon.
