I once screamed at a 2.1GB Seagate hard disk and it died.

Pretty crap.

mrlonglong··on America.gov
"America" of what?

The United States? The entire continent of North America?

Trump just wants to suck all the other countries on the continent into his "Empire of (some rich) Arseholes".

Beware, Ubuntu are dropping ZFS. That's something that's annoyed me as that's now ruled out future upgrades

Damn you were lucky. I bought 96GB DDR5 last year for £600 UKP. They're now retailing for three times that.

Bastards.

It is for that reason they are being archived and torrented as a very large middle finger.
mrlonglong··on Unix Year 2038 problem and the art of underestimating
Let's be super safe and assume 128 bits will be sufficient for as long as the universe lasts. Whether humanity will still be around is a matter of debate.

mrlonglong··on NATS publishes preliminary report on technical incident of 8 September
I rather suspect the current IBM system the software runs on is much quicker than the original system it used to run on. That can increase the probability of a data race occuring.

I love it.

Some day we'll need this when we finally realise we are not alone in the universe. Alien glyphs ftw.

mrlonglong··on Gem for Linux
I've had a play with this in a VirtualBox VM running Gentoo hosted in Gentoo.

Very nice but some issues, segfaults quite a lot and the display doesn't seem to get updated correctly, moving mouse leaves black spots on the screen.

It'll be quite nice when these issues are rolled out.

mrlonglong··on Warren Buffett Steps Down as Berkshire Chairman, Names Son to Replace Him
This is the biggest argument for socialism, you pay the taxes, get free health care and free education, every one gets the same irrespective of their status. Why do Americans get scared every time they hear "socialism"? Is it because billionaires have told them it's like "communism"? Are they so brainwashed they can't vote for policies to enable this sort of thing? No wonder the life expectancy in the US is lower than in Europe.
mrlonglong··on Android 17 is the first since 3.x to add new APIs without releasing to the AOSP
Are they still forbidding benchmarking the Oracle database in their T&Cs? I laugh. Such litigious losers.

mrlonglong··on Fedora 45 beta drags the Linux console into the 21st century
Wow that's brilliant.

I'd experiment with it except I'm running Wayland from the console the old fashioned way.

I hope these issues will get ironed out soon.

mrlonglong··on Douglas Adams and the exterminated Doctor Who adventure
Seems like the Doctor Who enemies really has it in for the poor old UK.
