Interesting, imho, more because who he is, and Spain's current role, than the actual content. Also, targeted at.. the US? Western Europe, I guess?
Note to the OP: specify a focus please? short, long, mega-long read and bacterial, human, small plant or large plant genome? Alignment heuristics and performance differ significantly across those axes.
Who the hell is going to use it then? You certainly won't, because you're dependent on AI.
That being said, this is insane.
Maintaining your social network is a skill, just like being able to swim, doing math, being able to hold a good conversation, being able to code or cook or do your taxes.
The "promise" and "illusion" of silicon valley is that all problems (including and maybe even especially social ones) can be solved with technology. This is not true.
Having to use your brain to think about things is definitely painful. It also has incredibly good long-term effects -- and also negative short-term effects because it costs energy. It's similar to eating well, regularly exercising and other aspects of taking care of yourself.
Making sure you can remember to think about other people is not a problem -- it's a REALLY valuable skill that is gradually disappearing.
Basically, it went up for Romania because they got access to the EU market (in terms of both exports and remittances) starting in 2007 and that helped, _despite_ everything else that went on. So.. kind of a win for Romania and the EU, I guess.
What about beneficial and neutral but important bacteria and viruses? "Air" is actually a complex soup of all types of things. This like applying HCl to a skin infection.
Also, having been on both sides, I can tell you that hiring is just a crap shoot. My (anecdotal!) experience is that a lot of hiring is e8ther 50% gut feelings-based or 50% keyword-based. And in the worse case, both.
In bioinformatics, basically all of the file formats are human-readable/text based. And file sizes range between 1-2Mb and 1 Tb. I regularly encounter 300-600 Gb files.
In this context, human-readable files are ridiculously inefficient, on every axis you can think of (space, parsing, searching, processing, etc.). It's a GD crime against efficiency.
And at that scale, "readable" has no value, since it would take you longer to read the file than 10 lifetimes.

Debt exists because of (the threat of) violence. Money exists because of debt (.. is in fact debt). Modern society is based on our monetary system.
I now work at a company where there are a max of 6 people to a room. I would go in every day except that I have a small child and it's easier in terms of logistics to work at home one day a week.
I am a hardcore introvert. I am not shy and have worked successfully as a manager (and hated it). If you think introvert == shy, look up the definition of introvert. I know several extroverts with significantly worse people skills than me.
Working at the office: - motivates me - makes me happier and less lonely - makes me more productive -- *in the long run* - helps me (a lot) with networking and generating new projects.
While working in open source, I ran into many developers who had been working at home for between 10 and 30+ years, and were very productive. Some people can do this. You must have a thick skin and be stubborn or otherwise single minded -- and it helps if you are not single.
However, I believe that the majority of people will initially be productive when WFHing, for the first 1-5 years, after which a steady decline in both productivity and mental health will set in.
Research has conclusively shown that your social network is directly related to both your health and happiness. The line between this and WFH is really short....
Google keyword alerts/searches and/or word of mouth, although the latter is less trustworthy. Search, goshdarnit!
Have also randomly contacted a few people in my LinkedIn network for advice at 2 times in my career, in order to get more knowledge about skills, industries, company landscapes, etc.
The work and people are amazing. I learned more in 1 year then the last 10 and just really like my work. The pace and culture is levels orders nicer than the corporate or startup world.
Or otherwise to recognize what type of bugs the AI will make -- like the way you know what type of bugs junior engineers will make.
"AI can do code" -> less experienced engineers -> no one has deep understanding of the whole system -> boom.
But it will take 25 years before this series of events plays out.
The reviewer writes "That some questions about inequality are obscure or ill-framed does not indicate that inequality of wealth is not a fundamental social problem."
Graeber's point about inequality is that, as a rights concept, it's impossible to define, and also not a good representation of how good communities work.
The reviewer is bending Graeber's words to suit his own points (and publications!). "Inequality of wealth" is a redundant misconception for Graeber, since wealth == inequality.
Also, depressed people (and people with similar mental conditions) resist sleep also partially because being tired means that you feel less, and thus are relieved from the pain you feel more acutely when more awake.
Or, given that he's basically mentions FCM/PPM, zpaq.
