mrheosuper··on Why Texas Is Making Data Centers Wait
At least we won't have to worry about heating anymore.
mrheosuper··on The Lightbulb Computer
The smartglass biggest problem is space constraint. The only way to have decent computation is hooking a giant computer on your face(Apple vision), with a battery in your pocket(unless you want neck pain). And even with all of that, battery life still suck.

Honestly i feel that problem is much harder to solve than hooking a bunch of projector in your home.

mrheosuper··on Open-source Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word replications
The Chinese is still in control of it. If the Chinese gov decides no more open weight and stop financing those AI labs, rip your "AI distribution"
mrheosuper··on The RAM shortage is bringing back DDR4
I wish we recycle old hardware.

My S21 Ultra phone is an e-waste because of broken screen. But it has 12GB of LPDDR5 and 256GB of decent flash memory. I don't have knowledge and tool to recyle/reuse those priceless parts.

I wonder, how many TB(or PB) of RAM/SSD being thrown to garbage dump every month.

mrheosuper··on "Robot" Is a Social Construct: Why Your Dishwasher Is Not a Robot
How much movement we are talking, my phone also "moves" when vibrating. Is it robot ?
mrheosuper··on I paid people to try and follow my README
The trend currently is telling your user to run this script in their terminal, addition point if you tell them to run with sudo.

See: Claude code installation.

>People don't read manuals to be entertained

Tell this to my younger self, when he used to read manual because of boredom.

mrheosuper··on Cartographers of North Korea (2019)
The first video gives me impression that many of them are ... staged. Sorry if i am incorrect.
mrheosuper··on Whatever became of holography? (2011)
Agree, that is the first hologram that truly blows my mind. Literally windows to different dimension.
mrheosuper··on Ask HN: Do you want a router that has DD-WRT pre-installed?
Many stock Firmware is just OpenWRT with fancy interface. I remember Asus being one.
mrheosuper··on Yes, and
Is that fundamental problem with AI, or it's just because we are not throwing enough GPU into chatbot ?
mrheosuper··on OpenAI withdraws three mathematical results
They should use LLM to verify/prove Lean soundness first before working on something that relies on Lean.

"Chain of soundness" i think.

mrheosuper··on Yes, and
if an agent so capable of maintaining the mess of AI slop, i bet it can also do these

>1) writing and refining specs, 2) "managing" agents by answering questions, evaluating new models, new tools, etc, 3) testing and validating AI output.

mrheosuper··on Yes, and
Another thing about compiler, if your input(source code) is stupid and not follow the expected format, it will outright refuse to generate output for you, no matter how much you ask or whatever trick you pull.

With LLM, if your input is stupid, the llm may/may not nudge you and happy to continue with that input and gives it 100% effort.

mrheosuper··on Man discovers his parents' coffee machine used 1TB of data in 10 days
That's why i said they should be off by default. I want to explicitly tell my device to make itself discoverable.
mrheosuper··on Man discovers his parents' coffee machine used 1TB of data in 10 days
I believe many vendor Firmware is just OpenWRT under the hood.

If you don't trust prebuilt binary blob, just build it yourself. At least you have option.

mrheosuper··on Ask HN: What do you run on a $5 VPS that's worth keeping online 24/7?
Luckily i have 321 back up, don't i ?

I didn't check ToS of proton drive, but in my experience, every cloud storage has requirement about what kind of data is allowed to store(after all, they dont want to accidentally store illegal stuff).

mrheosuper··on Why isn't the industry freaking out about DeepSeek 4.1 Flash?
The 5070 honestly feel more like xx60ti class instead of xx70 class
mrheosuper··on Ask HN: What do you run on a $5 VPS that's worth keeping online 24/7?
I am honestly not sure. I use GG photo because that what i use first and i was too lazy to investigate better deal. Also, i know Google does really well at keeping my data available, which is what you want for backup.
mrheosuper··on US man given prison sentence for bot-farming music streams
If that "created" userbase give you the similar profit of "real" userbase, i dont see what's wrong.
mrheosuper··on Ask HN: What do you run on a $5 VPS that's worth keeping online 24/7?
Oh i thought you went 1 step further, compress all those "ISO" into 1 single blob.
mrheosuper··on Ask HN: What do you run on a $5 VPS that's worth keeping online 24/7?
Why do you need both wireguard and ovpn ?
mrheosuper··on Ask HN: What do you run on a $5 VPS that's worth keeping online 24/7?
Does this mean you have to decompress your "ISOs" when you want to watch them ? Does jellyfin support this ?
mrheosuper··on Ask HN: What do you run on a $5 VPS that's worth keeping online 24/7?
That's why you always practice 3-2-1 with important data.

My photos are on: Captured devices(phones, camera). Immich on my homelab, and google photo(which is lossy, but better than nothing).

mrheosuper··on Ask HN: What do you run on a $5 VPS that's worth keeping online 24/7?
My own VPN. I live in country where internet speed to some "foreign" website is heavily limited because the goverment does not like those websites.

Using VPN Provider is an option, but i prefer no one tinker with the VPN server i am using. Also i can add unlimited client to it.

Why not setup opnsense/pfsense/openwrt on a small PC. You already went with your own router
mrheosuper··on ETH-68: Ethernet Audio Interface for Linux
After the whole drama about TI opamp, i would never trust any components from them.

Edit: For the context: https://www.eevblog.com/forum/chat/ti-ne5532-audio-opamp-cha...

mrheosuper··on Man discovers his parents' coffee machine used 1TB of data in 10 days
Why tf we allow whatever protocol was used. Like, why does my phone reply to a request for its information without letting me know ? It should be all off by default.
mrheosuper··on Man discovers his parents' coffee machine used 1TB of data in 10 days
Well, you could connect your oven to HA, and VPN to your home.
mrheosuper··on Theranos.world
Why not, it's big tech money, at least share it with the poor.
