Good idea to simplify things but just side-stepping around the issue and delaying the reality that it really isn't this easy. You're eventually going to have to get dirty if you really want to do anything -- configure ruby, install gems, learn git, deal with gem versions... ah, good times.

Can you describe your experience with backbone? Now that you have built an app with it, do you recommend it? Or perhaps wait till it matures a little?

Why the downvote? Fact is this guy made something that, even if he didn't take into account all the spam controls, tried to better something. Cut him some slack...?

My thoughts exactly, I had no idea that that was the intention of that question especially since it had no context.

Actually I did something like araneae stated, I started hiding my transcripts in high school and college to avoid drama between my folks because I was NOT a good student -- the formal education system wasn't for me. There was even one point in college where I was failing out, but gamed the GPA system so that they couldn't kick me out.

Anyway, it worked well for me. I didn't get any drama, and I ended up graduating and landing a job with a top 25 software company.

Wish I knew about the emphasis about hacking a system question and I would have elaborated on my application....

Although it is a difficult question to put emphasis on IMO because it also makes you in a way "reveal" your bad morals... which I am sure many people don't feel comfortable doing.

Why would you ever want to openly admit you beat ie. cheated a system be it government, academic, or private? Not to imply that I ever have... err... gotta run!

Well in my defense I only live at home because I am so confused. My parents are nice about it. I can easily buy/rent but the stopping factor is that I don't know what to do. I am located on the east coast, and want to go to Silicon valley, etc. so I see no reason to invest in a 1-year lease or mortgage if I am trying to change my lifestyle! :o

Great show! Worth the trip. Everyone was great but the most memorable speakers for me were Groupon, imeem, and airbnb. If anyone is wondering if they should fly out to see it, DO IT. So much better than watching streams.

Wow you hit it spot on. I do hack in my weekends/nights but the time just goes by so fast, and it is so draining staying a computer so much of my waking time.

Yeah. I am also saving now so I at least have a small nest egg once I get the guts to take the dive.

Thanks. I think one of my biggest fears I have is the impression that once you leave corporate you can't go back (or it is much harder to go back). Is this even remotely true?

As a newbie to Rails 3 this looks great. Been using Sinatra this whole time and I'm ready to make the plunge with the RoR 3 improvements. Thanks :)
