mrbluecoat··on Biology might not be quantum, but its math is quantumlike
That's fair. Quantum is an extremely fragile state - any perturbance will collapse the field state into an observed classical physics value. This is why complex machinery and near absolute zero temperatures are required to maintain it. I guess 'quantumlike' just felt like an affront to the science of it all.
mrbluecoat··on Breaking Up with Google Play: Why Conversations Is Now Free
> I was in a toxic relationship with Google[/Apple/Amazon/X/Instagram/Facebook/TikTok], and the only reason I stayed was economic dependency.

That just about sums up Big Tech

How is this article HN newsworthy?

mrbluecoat··on AI-generated posters don’t have to be horrible
Anecdotally, I was reading https://www.quantamagazine.org/mathematicians-build-long-awa... from another HN post and I could have sworn the image was AI generated but https://www.pangram.com/ said was legit human created. Sad that my new default is assuming everything is AI created or vibed nowadays.
mrbluecoat··on Android 17 is the first since 3.x to add new APIs without releasing to the AOSP
> Pixels are now significantly harder to support than many other devices. ... It will be far easier for us to support upcoming Motorola devices than Pixels.

The Motorola transition can't come soon enough, IMHO

mrbluecoat··on Show HN: Scry, programmable internet search w/ congestion pricing
Scry, keyword action that allows a player to look at a specific number of cards from the top of their library and then arrange those cards in any order, placing any number of them on the bottom of the library and the rest on top.
mrbluecoat··on Bend 2 and the Vibe-Coding Trap
> To be fair to Bend, I completely vibe-coded this, I just told a LLM to recreate the demo in SPARK

A vibe-coded retort to a vibe-coding tool? Ugh.

mrbluecoat··on Better routing, probe fixes, plugin updates in Freenet/Hyphanet 0.7.5 build 1507
Agreed. "Java version 9" says it all.
mrbluecoat··on Autism is genetic – and why this information matters now
> Until recently, ideas about what causes autism have been vague, and this sense of uncertainty has allowed misinformation to escalate. ... Autism is genetic. You’re born autistic and you’re autistic for life. Most autistic people are autistic because of genes they got from their parents. This is why autism often runs in families. Much less commonly, other factors can play a role, but usually in combination with genes from parents.

Psst, words like "most", "often", and "usually" aren't helping your "vague" problem.

mrbluecoat··on Dropping eBPF CPU Cost by About 90% with Memoization (Not AI Gen)
So you highlight "Not AI Gen" but you call the solution "Agent"? :D
mrbluecoat··on Show HN: Liniora – Ever thought about replacing your project manager?
Neat app, lame post title. This has nothing to do with replacing project managers. IMHO, drop the link bait and let the app speak for itself.
mrbluecoat··on More questions about whether researchers can trust OpenAI with unpublished math
"Another researcher[/artist/writer/musician/programmer/doctor/director/etc] says OpenAI trained on conversations[/imagery/books/songs/code/classifications/videos/etc], then claimed breakthrou[gh/original art/bestselling books/chart-topping songs/unique applications/medical advice/free special effects/etc]"

Welcome to the party, with the rest of humanity.

A 2U dev unit? Seems a bit premature..

mrbluecoat··on Fast drilldown dashboards from a single Parquet file
A clever repurposing of technologies but realistically only worthwhile for static datasets with range payloads small enough to fit into a web response.

mrbluecoat··on Iowa et al asks OpenAI to keep their bots sandboxed
Glad the statement was published but sadly nothing will come of it other than a brief formal statement from OpenAI acknowledging safety protocols were lacking, apologizing for the incident, and promises that new safeguards are now in place that will prevent such event from occurring in the future. The threat of semi-autonomous AI threat actors will never go away until the financial incentive that buoys unchecked growth at all costs goes away.
mrbluecoat··on Show HN: Nightcrawler – A local AI pentesting agent running on a smartphone
Agreed. Also less noticeable when "accidentally" dropped/left, especially in tight spaces out of view. And better odds of plausible deniability if caught or device is later found and somehow traced to you.
