mrbluecoat··on 15 Years of Forking
I love how "15 Years of Forking" is right next to "There is no Spoon" on the HN homepage right now :D
mrbluecoat··on AyaFlow: A high-performance, eBPF-based network traffic analyzer written in Rust
> Deep L7 inspection -- Optional TLS SNI and DNS query extraction for domain-level visibility into encrypted traffic.

Nice feature. Would be useful to add active traffic management block/drop in the future, in addition to the existing passive analysis.

mrbluecoat··on Meta Partners with Arm to Develop New Class of Data Center Silicon
Discussion from yesterday: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47511112
mrbluecoat··on Arm releases first in-house chip, with Meta as debut customer
"in-house" is misleading

> Like nearly all fabless AI chipmakers, Arm currently manufactures its CPU at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company ’s fabrication plants.

mrbluecoat··on Moving from GitHub to Codeberg, for lazy people
I specifically like the filtering to say "permissive license in Go language"
mrbluecoat··on Moving from GitHub to Codeberg, for lazy people
Is there a "Moving open source search from GitHub to XYZ, for lazy people"? When I'm looking for solutions to problems that open source might be able to solve, I find the fracturing of code hosting platforms an annoyance.
mrbluecoat··on Landmark L.A. jury verdict finds Instagram, YouTube were designed to addict kids
I feel the same way. They're just going to appeal the case until they find a layer of the legal system where they have leverage.
mrbluecoat··on My astrophotography in the movie Project Hail Mary
Props to you for your amazing work but my favorite part of your article was:

> And I have to say this clearly: my wife has been incredible through all of it. She’s put up with my astrophotography craziness, backed me the whole way, and seeing how proud and excited she is has been its own kind of reward.

mrbluecoat··on Be intentional about how AI changes your codebase
..but unintentional AI (aka Modern Chaos Monkey) is so much more fun!
mrbluecoat··on Noq: n0's new QUIC implementation in Rust
> noq (”number 0 QUIC”)

Wouldn't that be n0q then?

mrbluecoat·
I agree. Trim is nice but the killer feature of LosslessCut is cutting a scene in the middle and merge results while maintaining correct subtitles.
mrbluecoat··on Ceno, browse the web without internet access
Bad title.

Better executive summary: "A browser that lets you bypass censorship via BitTorrent-based residential proxies and Ceno-owned proxies"

mrbluecoat··on Networking with agents: Put them in the right conversations with Tailscale
Happily handing over all your private data to a shady tiger in a trenchcoat - seems like an apt visual for the current state of AI.
mrbluecoat··on RISC-V Is Sloooow
> Random mumblings of ARM developer ... RISC-V is sloooow

mrbluecoat··on A decade of Docker containers
> Docker repurposed SLIRP, a 1990s dial-up tool originally for Palm Pilots, to avoid triggering corporate firewall restrictions by translating container network traffic through host system calls instead of network bridging.

Genuinely fascinating and clever solution!

mrbluecoat··on The shady world of IP leasing
If only those services required age verification..

mrbluecoat··on The JVG algorithm could break RSA-2048 encryption with fewer than 5k qubits
Reminds me of a recent article.. title was something like "Cloudflare currently breaks RSA-2048 encryption with MitM certs." /s
mrbluecoat··on To understand our fascination with crystals, researchers gave some to chimps
They're also into bananas
mrbluecoat··on The Hunt for Dark Breakfast
It's what they ate on the Red October
mrbluecoat··on The Origins of Agar
> thrives only in cold, turbulent waters over rocky seabeds, conditions nearly impossible to replicate in aquaculture

With our warming climate, I wonder if research is happening to develop heat-resistant agar, similar to coffee, cocoa, and rice.

mrbluecoat··on Fentanyl makeover: Core structural redesign could lead to safer pain medications
Not a great analogy. Caffeine is not as addictive as opioids. Opioids strongly stimulate the mesolimbic dopamine pathway, leading to intense euphoria, compulsive use, and severe health and social harm.

mrbluecoat··on Red Hat takes on Docker Desktop with its enterprise Podman Desktop build
I also like that Rancher Desktop supports nerdctl. Colima is another similar project.
mrbluecoat··on Nearby Glasses
Add satellite imagery, nearby self-driving vehicles / Google maps cars, line-of-sight ring doorbells, peripheral street surveillance cameras, police equipment, people in your proximity with a smartphone camera, and various-purpose drones and then you'll have the perfect paranoia alerter.
mrbluecoat··on Tiny QR code achieved using electron microscope technology
Looking at the end result, honestly surprised a QR code scanner could read it - other than the corner squares, the lack of pixel fidelity and strong outlines makes the code look melted or smudged
mrbluecoat··on IRS Tactics Against Meta Open a New Front in the Corporate Tax Fight

Soon: "I.R.S. auditors have been pursuing Meta for about [a decade + length of current administration term]"
