Do you use Waydroid and Android apps? Apps like Whatsapp and Signal are things I use.
Currently I use Sailfish from Jolla on a Sony phone. For a linux phone, it serves my needs. I would be open to change.

System fonts and font rendering are now so good for readability, that you don't need anything else. I use it on one website where I don't care about pixel-perfect. In cases where the customer/owner wants a pixel-perfect layout, this will not work.
Wow, he lives in another universe than most people :) I wonder wat the median price of laptops is, I assume the bulk of new laptops has a price between €500 and €700.
Mandrake started as Red Hat plus KDE. For a time Red Hat didn't include KDE. Mandrake made KDE the default.
A short while later Mandrake had a real good installer and a control center. Also a dependency resolver on top of rpm (urpmi) with a graphical package installer (rpmdrake). Then there was really good hardware support with lots of plug and play, all before udev existed.
In the Netherlands it has always been (since the nineties) that two doctors need to approve of it. There is now a lot of discussion is people who suffer mentally do fit the process. I think there are slow movements in this regard.
I wouldn't dare to say that other companies don't want to contribute, I do wonder what was and is going on. Outside Gutenberg, there is hardly any change in WordPess.
There is now a law from the EU, I think it is the DMA, which could change things for people living in the EU regarding interoperability. I haven't read anything about practical follow-ups yet.
By the way, only releasing source code as a blueprint might be fine, that happened before. I might remember it wrong, but it might be lame, the mp3 encoder.
The Android App support is good, I use Whatsapp and Signal with it, also Firefox and DuckDuckGo browser. Just keep in mind that the Android App support is to get a few apps running that are important to you. Choosing Sailfish also means choosing mostly native apps. The system browser is built on the Firefox engine. SSH support is lovely though. It feels just like desktop Linux.
Don't expect a super slick experience. Companies like Apple and Google are pooring billions into their mobile OS. A small comapny like Jolla cannot keep up with that. Also the Android drivers are as is, the Jolla developers cannot improve on them.
Edit: by the way, it uses Firejail to have apps locked into their own jail.
Then there is the thing that they can become so strong and draw so much attention to them, that normal life gets to second place. The surreal world with voices is becoming the reality and is taking over. At that point, it can get dangerous, for yourself, and in some cases, others.
In the US electric power might be cheaper. And if it's running only part of the time, you should adjust the calculation.
My desktop/server runs 24/7, so I prefer having a CPU with 65W TDP over one that is 125W TDP. That might run up to 120 Euro per year difference for me (if it would be running at 100% CPU).
My experience is really the opposite from this. Thrashing was a normal occurrence on my desktop, where it went into non-recovery and a manual hard reset.
And also, with 16GB ram and 4GB swap, my running applications got moved to swap. Switching tabs in Firefox will be slow because it has to come from swap. My swappiness was set to 1 that it shouldn't swap, but it did swap always.
Now without swap and using early_oom everything is fine. When I see in /proc/vmstat that there has been a kill, it is time to reboot.
On my laptop though, my usecase is different. It only has 2GB ram, so I prefer swap over a hard kill. And I reboot it more than once a day if I am using it.
Capitalism is like a cancer, it will grow endlessly and will become feudalism. Socialism is the government applying rules to capitalism, so it doesn't get out of control.
US policy of neo-liberalism is growing in Europe too, which is giving problems.
Follow the money... And how do you change this? The oligarchs, the 1%, make money but don't have any of the problems. How can you make them want to change and fix society?
I have argued here before that the US is not a real democracy. There are 2 parties that share power and are in service of the 1%. The rich and powerful minority has to be protected from the 99% majority of the people. How can you make the powerfull people care about all the drug deaths?
Another factor is inconvenience. On the road, most passwords are out of reach for me now. In a way I prefer it that way, I prefer to not be glued to my phone. As a compromise, there are a few passwords in a note taking app on my phone ;)
1. Tabs in browser and other applications.
2. Font rendering, hinting, anti-aliasing and subpixel rendering. Together with high-resolution screens for more people.
3. Better multi-threading for applications. Back in the day, one application crashes and everything is stuck. Improvements here are part of user experience, though not directly UI.
4. Less crashing and vague errors in my experience, much more refined software (if you pick your choices right).
5. Smooth audio and video, together with much better support for codecs out of the box.
6. Better plug-and-play, no internal isa cards anymore, external all usb or similar.
7. Many more options for free software and gratis software, but choices for commercial still exist.
8. App stores which makes discovery and installation easier for users.
That many things have turned for the worse, does not mean there are no things that turned better.
