mparnisari··on Ask HN: How do you survive a job you hate which is slowly making you sick?
Like other people said, no job is worth your health. I'll repeat that one more time: NO JOB IS WORTH YOUR HEALTH.

Quit if you have to.

mparnisari··on Rakuten Kobo returns to U.S. retail as sales double
Kobo has daily deals going. Every day I open my wishlist and sort by price lowest to highest, and every few days I buy something.

mparnisari··on Go 1.27
that's an extremely odd explanation and it makes me think that he has some hidden PTSD. it's also insane that one person's preference trumps the rest of the world's.
mparnisari··on Why your Amazon order confirmation emails have become so unhelpful
I ordered something yesterday, expecting it today, and the confirmation email contains the actual product images and title (albeit trimmed).
mparnisari··on 200 Milliseconds
Great website! Seems like the web version of this book (which is highly recommended btw): https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17985198-high-performanc...
mparnisari··on 1,700 free online courses from top universities

mparnisari··on 1,700 free online courses from top universities
https://www.openculture.com/free_textbooks - none of the free textbooks that i tried worked? i picked a few from the CompSci category
mparnisari··on Developers don't understand CORS (2019)
I'm one of them. CORS is THE topic that I have to get a refresher for periodically. It's like I forget about it, it never sticks. I'm a backend developer so I never encounter any cors issues. Maybe that's why? I seem to forget things that I don't use on a day to day basis, so.
mparnisari··on I turned my Kindle into my own personal newspaper
I have a kobo and I use Instapaper. Is this similar?
mparnisari··on Ask HN: How to be alone?
What was your main takeaway from that book?
mparnisari··on Nobody gets promoted for simplicity
If they could read, this would upset managers at Amazon.
mparnisari··on Pokémon Team Optimization
My uni course on optimization was so much fun but I forgot all of it. This was a nice reminder that I should probably revisit the basics :)
mparnisari··on No more O'Reilly subscriptions for me
Vancouver Public Library as well :) https://www.vpl.ca/digital-library/oreilly-technology-and-bu...

Though I wish I could check them out on my Kobo...

mparnisari··on Frinkiac – 3M "The Simpsons" Screencaps
I love this website. I wish I could search it in Spanish. I grew up watching the Simpsons in Spanish and I sometimes struggle to find the right clip because I don't know the exact translation
mparnisari··on The overengineered solution to my pigeon problem (2022)
I hang up a flag on my balcony and it has worked for me.
mparnisari··on Show HN: I scraped 3B Goodreads reviews to train a better recommendation model

mparnisari··on Summary of the Amazon DynamoDB Service Disruption in US-East-1 Region
I worked for AWS for two years and if I recall correctly, one of the issues was circular dependencies.
mparnisari··on Incident with Webhooks
I experienced that too! In Canada. It was a head-scratcher, none of my teammates had issues, and i could access just fine on my phone but i couldn't on my home's wifi.
mparnisari··on An illustrated introduction to linear algebra
I love this. Well, in general, I love illustrated explanations :)

mparnisari··on Work Life balance slows careers
> When I first started at Microsoft, I had a sleeping bag in my office. I coded until 11pm nightly and slept until 3am, at which point I’d code until ~6am, then sleep until my first meeting ~10am.

oh my god

mparnisari··on We do not break userspace (2012)
I guess his comment is acceptable because this is OSS and it's not like he can get fired over it.

In a past employer I've left a PR comment with a much less aggressive tone, and the PR author messaged me saying "your message is unprofessional". Granted, it wasn't my best moment, I had snapped. But if I wrote something like what Linus wrote, i'd be insta-fired.

mparnisari··on Meta invests $14.3B in Scale AI to kick-start superintelligence lab
You want your own employer to fail?
mparnisari··on How long it takes to know if a job is right for you or not
I've always known within a week if I was going to like a job or not. I was right every time.
mparnisari··on An Interactive Guide to Rate Limiting
We used leaky bucket IIRC and the issue I saw was that the distributed aspect of it was coded incorrectly and so depending on the node you hit you were rate-limited or not
mparnisari··on (On | No) Syntactic Support for Error Handling
I have zero complaints about Go's error handling and I'm happy with the decision!
