mouldysammich··on The Galaksija computer was a craze in 1980s Yugoslavia
I'd really like a kit of some sort to build one of these. It seems like it could be a fun project to play around with.
mouldysammich··on Reddit shuts down subreddits including r/The_Donald and r/ChapoTrapHouse
Perhaps not literally, however the subreddits namesake literally retweeted a video of someone exclaiming 'white power'. Most people who are not facists and are not nazis wouldnt exclaim something like this and would not support someone who retweets such things.
mouldysammich··on John Carmack is reading and contributing to OpenBSD source code
Seems a little dismissive of BSD systems given how widely deployed the are in comparison to plan9 or zx spectrums. As far as I understand Netflix uses freebsd fairly extensively, and there are powerful tools like pfSense built on BSDs too, which are also used fairly extensively as far as i know.

I would describe that as having practical use.

mouldysammich··on Making Emacs Popular Again
I think they dont use QT because they already have native windows, mac, X11 and GTK ports, why would they use qt?
mouldysammich··on Point of WebGPU on Native
> I'm really rooting for WebGPU as the "cross-platform 3D-API for the rest of us" (where "rest of us" is everybody who isn't a highly specialized rendering engineer in an AAA-game engine team).

I'm feeling the same way, I'm interested in getting into doing a little graphics programming as a beginner, but the whole thing does feel impenetrable.

mouldysammich··on De-Googling: My Progress
I've been slowly de-googling/de-large-corporationing.

- DuckDuckGo for search mostly, trying out qwant

- Runbox for email, I like the service and its incredibly cheap and have my own domain

- Youtube -> miniflux for subscriptions & newpipe on my phone

- I cant delete facebook but I've mitigated it to using matrix + a facebook->matrix bridge

- Using osmand~ and open street maps for directions, i dont have a way to get public transport directions, I helped write a program that does this in college but,, its not very good

mouldysammich··on De-Googling: My Progress
Having taken a look at the privacy policy, it looks like it does still use bing as well as its own results.
mouldysammich··on Valve's Proton Has Brought 6000 Windows Games to Linux So Far
I never had any issues with my nvidia card when i was using it
mouldysammich··on Scuttlebot: Peer-to-peer database, identity provider, and messaging system
could it use a HTTPHeader style system instead to avoid the json serializing back and forth?
mouldysammich··on Emacs: The most successful malleable system
I think this was sort of the idea of emacs-on-guile, guile supports elisp, but also supports scheme and there are other languages availble too like python[0] and lua [1]

mouldysammich··on My experience with NixOS
nix doesn't have a package on OpenSUSE so you need to manually instlal, guix does have one though
mouldysammich··on Zig 0.6.0 Release Notes
I wrote a small thing with gtk and zig a while ago, it feels like magic to just import a C header and have it work, and the experience is generally very good, especially for such a young language, and any problems i had figuring things out, I found the community very friendly in helping me.
mouldysammich··on QuakeJS – A Quake Port to JavaScript with Emscripten
There is a doom 3 port to wasm too

mouldysammich··on New System76 Laptop: Lemur Pro
Ah, at this screen size hires displays arent worth it (for me atleast) Linux is much more of a hassel on hidpi dipslays too.
mouldysammich··on New System76 Laptop: Lemur Pro
Firefox Nightly has it now on wayland.
mouldysammich··on Show HN: Beef, a new performance-oriented programming language
I dont think "beef begins to smell" really matters all that much. CockroachDB has built its self a sizeable fortune, and its name is cockroach.
mouldysammich··on PinePhone Review
I think hdmi out is supposed to work, according to a blog post from a few months ago anyway.

mouldysammich··on Tony Brooker, creator of Mark 1 Autocode, has died
The rain and lack of vitamin d sucks. I dont mind the dull sunshine if it means everyone is a little less horribly depressed.
mouldysammich··on Why does the Librem 5 phone cost that much?
I can see why GTK would be a good choice, it has lots of bindings, and gnomes style guide is pretty well suited to enjoyable phone sized experience.

My experience with GTK has been fine its been far from impossible to use - with python, rust, and C. At least on linux, but that is the context of the issue.

Plasma mobile exists and apps will use QT so we can see how both turn out.

mouldysammich··on Are We Wayland Yet?
on the lack of clipboard history: https://github.com/sentriz/cliphist this exists and is pretty good.
mouldysammich··on Sourcehut's Year in Alpha
Setup builds.sr.ht for ci on a university project (unfortunately we have to use github for the source hosting). It has been an absolute delight to work with and for everyone on my to work with!
mouldysammich··on Rust GUI ecosystem overview
I would say that this is not objective at all; I find VS Code well designed but it doesnt fit with the rest of the Gnome desktop (or any desktop) at all, whereas fractal fits well with the rest of the gnome system, and in my opinion looks quite nice.
mouldysammich··on Sunsetting Mercurial Support in Bitbucket
sr.ht also recently added support for hg
mouldysammich··on GNU Guix 1.0
I've heard it pronounced geeks by the developers.
mouldysammich··on The hidden costs of engineering time in technical interviewing
Are holidays and sick days not paid in the US?
mouldysammich··on Hayabusa-2: Japan Spacecraft Touches Down on Asteroid
Why put Russia under the category of North Korea, are they not accomplished enough in the rocket department to be considered closer to the US?
mouldysammich··on Openrsync imported into the tree
Its much closer to a proprietary version than a GPL version would or could be however.
mouldysammich··on Compiler Explorer
There is this thing that works similarly but for emacs: https://gitlab.com/jgkamat/rmsbolt It seems pretty gosh darn spicy
mouldysammich··on The Firefox Dilemma
Firefoxs omnibar history search is significantly better than chromes; although i imagine that is down to them having no stake in sending google searches which google obviously does
mouldysammich··on C2x: the next real revision of the C standard
C doesn't have destructors, does it?
