I'm not complaining about anything though - are you confusing posts from different HN users? I really don't care who uses Twitter or for what purpose. I'm pointing out that it's unlikely someone could use Twitter and be unaware of left-wing posts on the platform given that Twitter themselves amplify such content daily.
For example, today's trending topics include the "cancellation" of Dr Seuss (with many tweets giving examples of why he should be cancelled in the author's opinion) and the use of the words "latinx" and "womxn" to avoid offending people by using gendered language.
In any event, what do you think the breakdown of murders by race looks like? I'm genuinely interested in who you think is committing the most murders in the US and against which groups of victims.
If not, then it seems like someone else is taking all the risk but the employees are reaping all the rewards.
It would be great for me personally if my employer was forced to share his profits with me during the good times. But the reality is that during the hard times - when there's a global pandemic for example - he's the one who has to remortgage his house and max out his credit cards to make payroll, whereas I'm just a guy who can walk away with a month's notice.
In my experience, in any situation where you produce an API where you want the client to pay close attention to the actual error that occurred, the list of official HTTP response codes is generally woefully inadequate for the task and you're going to want to work with something much more specific.
If my payment processor is telling me they're declining a transaction because the customer failed a fraud check, I'd rather they didn't communicate that to me with some random 4xx code one of their devs found on a Wikipedia article and tried to bend into shape. Rather, I'd hope the importance of the situation would lead them to compile a table of custom error codes that I can implement properly in my program's logic.
No user cares whether an error response came back with a 400 or a 409 status, or what those codes even mean. It's madness that as a profession we spend so much of our employers' time and money on trivial things that deliver no value whatsoever. Response codes, HTTP verbs and pretty hierarchical URLs are all meaningless. I've lost count of the number of meetings I've been in where there have been pointless, timewasting debates about these things. Should we expose separate /foos and /bars endpoints? Should it be /foos/{foo_id}/bars/{bar_id}? Or maybe both? Do we need a POST, a PUT or a PATCH? Etc, ad nauseam.
I'm generally cautious when it comes to embracing new technologies, but I've wholeheartedly embraced GraphQL simply because it has removed countless hours of unproductive bikeshedding from my professional life.
i.reddit.com is the mobile equivalent, but is also terrible.
At the very least, I wish there was a regulation that forced platforms to provide users with an explicit reason why their account was suspended. No vague "please read our T&Cs" statements. Instead, something along the lines of "We have suspended your YouTube account because in video A you made statement B at time index C which violates our rule D". No doubt it would be burdensome for the likes of Google to implement, but that's what you get when you become so large that you can destroy your users' livelihoods on a whim.
MuseScore supports the reverse of that workflow - you can enter the durations of notes and rests initially, then go back and "repitch" the notes in a second pass.
I remember many years ago using a Windows scorewriter (possibly this one? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NoteWorthy_Composer) which placed notes into bars itself, based on their duration. If you went back and deleted, inserted or modified a note, the whole score would then reflow accordingly, much like wordwrap in a word processor.
You must not have been paying much attention to events outside your bubble recently. Many Antifa and BLM-aligned groups have spent much of the last year rioting, looting and committing arson. Throughout, they have been protected and excused by the mainstream US media and the intellectual Left, and the relatively small number of individuals that have been arrested during these events have mostly been released immediately - often to commit further violent crimes the same day.
I find that hard to square with your assertion that the protesters yesterday received preferential treatment due to their race and political leanings. As far as I can tell, the only difference in yesterday's events was that the Trump supporters didn't feel the need to burn the Capitol down.
Maybe it's different when you interview at a FAANG company though? I imagine FAANG recruitment is a merciless sausage machine.
Incel anger is a real thing, but incels are not building warships or running munitions factories.
British police officers don't routinely carry guns and therefore couldn't possibly shoot you even if they wanted to. In fact, there is an almost zero probability of anyone in the UK getting shot by the police unless they happen to be committing an act of terrorism or murder at the time.
