moron··on [dead]
If you think the only outcome of not paying your school will be that you don't receive "a piece of paper", you are too stupid to hire for any job. Sorry.

Life is going to be hard until you smarten up a little.

moron··on How Apple and Microsoft intend to destroy Android
I thought Groklaw was for information about legal proceedings, not speculation about companies' ability to compete in the market. MS isn't doing so hot, but it's pretty ridiculous to claim that Apple is doing this because they'd otherwise have some sort of trouble selling their devices.
moron··on In Week Two, Marissa Mayer Googifies Yahoo
Ah, I see. Thanks.
moron··on The value of short term thinking
Right, there's so much rhetoric about being a producer and not a consumer, when (as you point out) the things being produced are mostly pretty underwhelming. As if it doesn't really matter too much what you're making as long as you're a maker and not one of those yucky consumer zombies.
moron··on In Week Two, Marissa Mayer Googifies Yahoo
I tried to reach a Yahoo PR person for comment, but my phone remains unrung, even here in Israel.

I don't understand this sentence. Is her phone more likely to ring because she's in Israel, or something?

moron··on Is Algebra Necessary?
This whole discussion is silly and unrelated to the topic.
moron··on Is Algebra Necessary?
Telling that students struggling with a subject is considered evidence of a problem with the subject. Couldn't be the teachers or the curriculum or the students.
moron··on Changing My Mind On Microsoft
Yeah, it's interesting that it has become OK to say these things in the open. In the past, any doubting of MS was smacked down by simply pointing at Windows and Office, as well as MS's cash pile and market cap. It has been sort of painful seeing their series of sizeable blunders treated with something akin to a shrug, but I guess those chickens are finally coming home to roost.
moron··on The Mac App Store’s future of irrelevance
Marco is accusing Apple of having made a critical strategic error. Where are all the people who call him a member of the Apple cult and all that crap? Funny how they disappear when it comes time to talk about what Apple is doing wrong.
moron··on Craigslist Suing Padmapper
No, it is effectively shutting down Padmapper. Apartment listings are on Craigslist.

As I have said elsewhere, I think Craigslist are within their rights here, but the situation still sucks. People want to browse apartment listings on a map, and Craigslist won't let us.

moron··on Hot Dogs & Caviar
MySpace's problems are due to their user base defecting en masse, I don't think their ad strategy was really a factor. Could be wrong, though.
moron··on Craigslist Suing Padmapper
The suit is understandable, but I wish craigslist would get over themselves already and allow users to look at listings on a map. That's all anyone really wants here, and this is getting a bit ridiculous.
moron··on Just pay me.
I don't have the book but I agree about the video. Well worth watching.
moron··on Google Begins Practically Begging You to Use Your Real Name on YouTube
Wow. That is pretty terrible. Assuming you left the comment, did you try a browser in private mode to confirm the """"preview"""" was in fact limited to only you?
moron··on How We Got 50 Women to Our Hackathon (And You Can, Too)
That's great. I wonder what will become of all these things these people spent their time building.
moron··on Sprite Cow: Generate CSS for sprite sheets
Christ, you act like you're doing someone a favor running this tool that was built to help you save time. Let me guess, you're the guy who bitches when the WiFi is down on the airplane.
moron··on Sprite Cow: Generate CSS for sprite sheets
This is great, I spent hours dicking around with CSS sprites for back/forward arrows last week. It was a pretty frustrating waste of time. Every time I wanted the element to be wider I had to go back and redo the sprites. I guess I'd still have to do that here, but it takes away a lot of the pain.
moron··on Destined To Fail
Yeah, I'm not seeing TW's downside here. They're a monopoly, they don't have to care about tiny details like customer satisfaction or doing things correctly.
moron··on Don’t Jump to Conclusions About the Killer
I agree, but people don't want to hear that. Something must be done, think of the children. Political positions must be advanced, panicked news segments must be filmed, panel discussions must be held, Bill Maher has to run his mouth about conservatives, Rush Limbaugh has to run his mouth about liberals, opportunists must seize the moment, narratives must be created. Shit, man, there's too much gold in this tragedy to just throw it away!

Nobody likes hearing that the universe is uncaring and unpredictable. That's just a fucking bummer.

moron··on Don't Vote
That's not why you shouldn't vote. You shouldn't vote because our politics is a bunch of crazy people yelling at each other.
moron··on Talent Acquisitions
Another revenue stream, you say? Hmm. I wonder if Marco has a way for his users to pay him a little bit of money every month.
moron··on How to say nothing in 500 words
This strikes me as good advice, but it also matches a lot of the advice I have gleaned over the years, so it may just be my bias talking. Getting rid of mush-mouthed "in my opinion" stuff and cliche phrases, moving from the general to the specific, all good advice.
moron··on Microsoft employee on stack ranking and its 'most universally hated exec'
Minimsft's post today seems to suggest feelings toward her have changed:

"Is she really the most universally hated executive? I don't know about that, but she certainly slipped away from being loved. Thousands of employees used to cheer for her. Now?"

moron··on Microsoft employee on stack ranking and its 'most universally hated exec'
That phrase refers to LisaB, not Ballmer.
moron··on Microsoft Expected To Post First Ever Quarterly Loss In Its History
It's weird to me that aQuantive is apparently not viewed as a massive failure for MS, even though they paid billions in cash for it and it's now worthless. But not only that, it was supposed to make them more competitive in a big market and didn't do that at all. So from a lay perspective it seems like that should be a disaster for Ballmer and probably others at MS, but it's being met with an attitude of "yep, that happened, and it doesn't really mean anything".
moron··on Apple granted broad mobile patent
No kidding.
moron··on BlackGirlsCode Raises $21,000 To Fund Summer Of Code Program
That's kind of how I feel, I don't think there's anything wrong with it but it does seem weirdly specific. It makes me wonder if other industries with poorly-represented population groups have such specific programs.

Surely the demographics of other fields need to be shaken up as well as tech. Nursing comes to mind.

moron··on [dead]
For what it's worth, I hadn't seen anyone make a big deal about this, or even remark upon it, until The Atlantic did. So, I'm not too sure about the narrative of "When will everyone finally accept this?!"
moron··on Dear Marissa Mayer...please make Flickr awesome again

moron··on Making Friends Over 30 with Grubwithus
I actually did register on Grubwithus after seeing it recommended in the original thread.

It appears there is an event in my town on Thursday, and it shows a few people who will be attending. To reserve a seat, I have to pay $22. Where is the event? It doesn't say, except that the location is "near Portland" and will be revealed "soon". What will we be eating? It doesn't say.

I dunno about you guys but that much info is not exactly enough for me to plunk down $22. "Near Portland" is especially ominous, that could be anywhere in a 50 mile radius.

Who knows, maybe I am using it wrong.
