Thanks!

Dilution: there is a “dilution” row that lets you specify the dilution percentage for potential future rounds/valuations. I used 20% as the default because this is roughly what you'd expect in a typical priced round, but this is user-editable.

Tax: tax modeling is hard. I haven’t attempted to do it in this version. I might add it in future versions.

Fractional share rounding during monthly vesting: it rounds the running total of shares vested to date each month, then reports each month’s vested amount as the difference between this month’s rounded total and last month’s. This way, rounding errors never accumulate and the schedule always sums exactly to the full grant.

I’m not sure what you mean by “any incentives besides having a userbase?” Are you asking why I built it? I’m a startup GC and I do this type of modeling all the time, so I wanted to build the definitive tool, and I wanted to open-source it and share it with HN for feedback.

You were right!
morninj··on My Uber driver robbed me, so I took Uber to court and won
I agree that representation would be better, but in reality, a D- 4/10 lawyer would still be too expensive to be worth it here.

I use G Suite for one domain (because I was grandfathered into a free plan) and Zoho for others. IMAP is a little faster in Zoho, and I haven't seen a difference in reliability. The Google web interface is much better, though.
morninj··on Show HN: NBox – Sign up anywhere without giving your email address
Same here. Sometimes I'll also add the date when I entered the address in a form. For instance, the last time I registered to vote, I used YYYYMMDD-ca-voter-registration@mydomain.org. During the last election cycle, I caught a few California politicians harvesting my address and adding it to their email lists.
morninj··on How To Write With Style (1999)
I love Vonnegut's generosity and sympathy for his readers. They have a hard job; as writers, let's try to make it easier.

Also, "have guts to cut" is great. Will hang on to that.

morninj··on Django REST framework 3.5
That's a small chunk of the functionality most APIs need. Why write all of your API views from scratch when there's an excellent framework that handles it for you?
morninj··on Major Investor Sues Theranos
Unlikely, unless it gets leaked. Some of it may come out in court filings (or trial, if it gets that far).
morninj··on Suspicious court cases, missing defendants, aim to get webpages taken down
You can, in fact, search dockets on PACER across jurisdictions. The barrier isn't centralization; the barrier is that it costs $0.10 per page to view documents and search results.[0]

LLCs are newish. U.S. corporations have had limited liability for well over a century.

I feel safer when every private citizen I interact with uses strong encryption. I do not feel safer when every private citizen I interact with carries a gun.
morninj··on Faking your death
Better: run your own domain with a catch-all address, so you can sign up with something like linkedin@domain.org. Everything gets routed to the primary address. Pretty easy to set up with Google Apps or Zoho.

The article explains this well. Building codes are laws because they are incorporated by reference in statutes.

(This vulnerability has been fixed, but there wasn't enough space in the title field to say so.)
morninj··on Why professors, pundits, and policy wonks misunderstand the world
It would book interesting if HN tracked which upvotes come from people who actually clicked the link. Maybe that would be too intrusive or brittle to implement, but the data could be interesting and might improve the ranking algorithm.

I'm not sure which law school taught you that, but it's just wrong. Here's a law review article that discusses the differences in mental state between negligence and recklessness: http://scholarship.law.duke.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=...
morninj··on Photographer Suing Getty Images for $1B
No. The Wikipedia article linked above says:

In Wilson v Brett Baron Rolfe (later Lord Cranworth) said he "could see no difference between negligence and gross negligence; that it was the same thing, with the addition of a vituperative epithet."
morninj··on Photographer Suing Getty Images for $1B
"Gross negligence" means you really really should have known of the risk. But it's still a contradiction to say that someone was deliberately grossly negligent.
morninj··on Photographer Suing Getty Images for $1B
Nit: by definition, negligence can't be deliberate.

Edit: "negligence" means you should have known of the risk. "Recklessness" means you knew of the risk but acted anyway.

morninj··on Ask HN: Anonymous person sent proof of SSH access to our production server
The "disclaimer" prologue is often humble bragging. It's often less about flagging a conflict of interest and more about claiming to have authority or status.
morninj··on Survey Suggests a Public Wariness of Enhanced Humans
Yeah, I know it's a blurry distinction, but I think there's a difference between hearing better and cogitating better. It's like the difference between upgrading the microphone versus upgrading the CPU.
morninj··on Survey Suggests a Public Wariness of Enhanced Humans
> neural implants (how is that much different than a cochlear implant?).

To me, sensory enhancements are different--less creepy--than cognitive enhancements.

For trademark violations, yes. But the risk is extremely low if you use yourname.com (or some other U.S. TLD).

In theory, at least, a class action lawsuit would also deter Microsoft and others from forcing bad OS updates on users.

Hmm--I've had no trouble with Skype on Ubuntu 14.04 or 16.04. I only use it every few weeks, though.
