There are instances where we don’t exist. We exist here right now though which is cool. Say what you want and shoot your shot.
sorry but it is going to play out in a boring way. ideally, it is an opportunity for a global reset to do/be better.
i mean consider that we share our planet with:
billions of religious fucknuts who believe “life” after death is more important and literally believe nonsense
billions of uneducated who can’t be taught no matter how hard we try (white knights are welcome to keep trying). in 1st world developed countries, everyone has access to all the information in their palm but they get addicted to gambling, porn, and other lowest common denominator type shit instead.
billions of polluters. i mean is it really that hard to not drop your plastic trash right where you happened to be when the chips were all eaten? is it not embarrassing to go outside and see a landfill outside your house?
i’d rather we use ai to program these automatons towards a predictable future that works for those of us who actually try and care.
lmfao
when the ai would do something wrong, i'd rather use it as an opportunity to understand how i can prompt it better or engineer better ways get shit done.
i've literally had very rare, mostly zero issues with ai giving me slop over the last few months, once i took the time to undertand how to use these tools effectively instead of complaining.
how the fuck am i, an individual who was already fucked by the system there, going to do anything?
life is unfair. i didn't choose to be born in shit conditions. i'm not going to die in shit conditions, that's for sure.
you and others like you can deal with the empathy part, weaponize it or whatever. that's your problem, not mine.
what is "fair" in your opinion?
my apps take maybe 1-2 days max. usually hours.
i read some of these posts and it feels like the experience with boomers i had to help with their computers at my college job.
they did the least and expected the most.
can’t use a computer (they’ve had like 30 years now in first world developed countries)
many can’t even use their smart phone beyond calling, texting (many can’t type well), and doom scrolling (they get addicted to drugs, gambling, and other LCD activities)
many read at a 6th grade level. most can’t even calculate tip in their head.
meanwhile, the same smartphone can give them access to literally any information and knowledge the world in seconds. and now gemini can explain stuff since most ppl can barely read or think.
it’s sad out there.
but more importantly. it’s not my problem.
maybe i’m just not crying about it because im an immigrant from a 3rd world hellhole so all i and my family knows is how to adapt to do better. a handful of us in a sea of billions.
i’m going to take advantage of technology that is freely available in many cases to improve my standard of living because change is the only constant in life.
100 years ago Market St was covered in horse shit.
today it’s human shit (sad but true, but not really) but more so that there are cars, lime scooters, BART, etc.
times changed.
i had to adapt to 3x my take home TC to get a job at a unicorn that ipo’d to like 10x or more my NW because i felt what it was like to work in an area where ppl were just laid off and i didn’t want to work 60 hours a week to impress some suit.
my relative is a phd research biochem scientist.
he had to adapt by taking a couple of years to switch sub-fields, taking on new roles and now in his latest research role he uses AI heavily to assist him to analyze data for patterns that humans had to previously brute force. he works on cancer research btw.
adapt.
crying is cheap and easy, for people who were going to be left behind regardless.
gpt 6 Luna can be swapped for 5.6 terra or even sol in some cases, and it is much cheaper.
source: i have a lot of evals, and i have ai find the best model for me for those evals over time so i save $ lol
it didn't exist 100 years ago
adapt
next year, astra tier model will be $2/1M or whatever (point is - cheaper) and whatever model is $10/1M will be insane like astra feels today.
also, in any agentic workflow, you use models of various levels together... not just one model of one level...
i just use X and follow smart people in areas i find interesting (business, tech, science, diy) as they share what they're working on, what cool findings or observations they post, and engage with them.
i see a lot of cynical takes here, but you know.. i've not yet built a 1b+ ARR company. i've not gone to a elite medical research school and then worked on breakthroughs. i've not done many things, and i find it impressive when others have actually done/shipped something that is 1000x more than i have.
i doubt most people here are as smart as they think they are. they're in the middle with me lol, the outliers on the right side of the bell curve are special for a reason. might as well keep an open mind!
wow.. i am a bit speechless, but i am not sad anymore. i feel happy, that there is something better now (hopefully)
i recently used street view to look at the places i lived in with my parents growing up.
we only ever lived in apartments, and i remember as a kid i was sometimes embarrassed (looking back it pains me i felt this way, because i was getting bullied at school over it) by our car for example which was a old mazda my dad purchased for like 2000 bucks. it was missing hub caps, rusting on the side doors.
but it was the car that my dad would drive to drop me off at school before commuting for almost an hour and 15 minutes to his job one way.
it was the car i learned how to drive. i remember the steering felt so good, i still miss the steering feel even tho now i've driven some really nice cars.
anyway.. i saw our old car and i actually cried. took screenshots of it, and put it in my iCloud.
these are businesses, after all. curious to hear what you guys think.
pray to the Omnissiah the machine holds!
i mean.. i get it. (point 1) i'd never do it. (point 2)
i also said, it is the internet and people will do that because famous people are... famous... and if there's an AI video of a famous person that I do like, i will give it a like.
if Robin Williams was some guy who worked as a cashier at Trader Joe's his whole life nobody would care
maybe Robin Williams should have never been an actor then he'd be unknown to the masses, like 99% of us on HN
i see AI edits of people who aren't here anymore like that guy charlie kirk or george floyd (to pick examples from "both" sides), i saw ai edits of alan rickman (guy who played Snape in happy Potter), and there are edits of napoleon or others.
if my dad was a famous actor known by literally 100s of millions of people, that was my dad's choice to bring that on himself. just being real.
people trying to compel other people is just an L take
they're working on the ad tech business and other business-related systems involved including internal tools.
and all the other platform engineering shit under the hood that makes much of the web scaleable... and lots of it is open source and contributed to by various engineers from these companies.
end of the day, these are businesses. they're not charities or whatever casual shit.
nobody is stopping you from building a competing product that's lean or whatever.
why don't you do something like that? i'm sure you're a genius.
We'll stream everything, so "computers" will exist in the cloud and users won't have to worry about upgrading their machines.
They'll just pay a monthly fee like for mobile data or whatever, and you just connect via screen.
All these data centers and shit around it (internet, etc.) will be actually useful to every day consumers.
Why should I have to upgrade my GPU every 2-3 years? I should just be able to pay to get 4k streaming top of the line graphics.
And <25ms ping latency will become a human right. Only back water countries will see their people having to suffer loading screens and 150ms+ ping
/s btw (in case you're oblivious or something)
