whitehouse.gov uses jquery because its wordpress
moocowtruck··on Everything is broken, and it’s okay
this is where as a user of software that is often times broken, I wish I had better protections on when/how to get my money back. Software is not obviously broken, and I feel like buyers have very little recourse
moocowtruck··on MIT with Restrictions
so it's not a MIT license? why not just give it another name?
moocowtruck··on Ask HN: Always on low power home server
I thought a few plug computers over the last decade... honestly I always had fire hazard at the back of my mind...and the one time I opened one up that was getting hot only to be horrified by the setup inside and stopped using it! Of course this doesn't speak for all plug computers, just why I've avoided them since
moocowtruck··on A new chapter – full-time working from a van in a forest
Thank you for writing this I really enjoyed it, read the whole damn thing! I am happy for you and it helps put things in perspective for me. I look forward to reading more in the future from you
moocowtruck··on Show HN: Job Board Inside VSCode
i know we could, but why would we? I am starting to see more and more of these types of extensions that are things I am not sure why we'd want to have in..a code editor? do people actually install these sorts of things?
moocowtruck··on Can You Identify This Mysterious Old Writing?
my apologies, this is the local news station where I live and they, like most things around here are behind the times hehe, it wouldn't dawn on them to get a really comprehensive and high rest images of something like this! Hell we've made shows like colbert multiple times to be made fun of :D
moocowtruck··on Checked C
yep multiple implementations and glorious code work around for each one of them! ahh those were the days
moocowtruck··on Nx: Multi-dimensional tensors Elixir lib with multi-staged compilation (CPU/GPU)
how is static typing lacking evidence? don't we use that in rust to prevent the existence of large swaths of errors vs say C? i know for sure when turning on typescript for some javascript projects at work we found many issues, those all seem like wins? Why when I look at some dynamic languages say for example clojure i see stuff like type annotations in their core libraries, and then spec's to help provide a lot of what a type system can do? do you have maybe a counter argument to this fellow https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTl7Jn_kmio
moocowtruck··on Visual Studio Code team considers Vim mode depending on upvotes
wow it only takes 20 upvotes? #easywin!!
moocowtruck··on “Location-Based Pay” – Who are we to complain?
you can do it, my current single contract pays 325k, and i'm just doing jquery(much to my dismay) and C# for it, all remote... been doin it for almost 3 years now. I live in a not very popoulated area . I've learned that there are plenty of very high paying jobs with a low bar..the things people go through to work for these big companies for such little pay and having to live in cities blows my mind. The best part is my current job leaves me lots of time for sidework to and to get experience in technologies i prefer to use.
moocowtruck··on Swift for TensorFlow Shuts Down
nestjs is an atrocity that should not have been wrought upon the js/ts community..
moocowtruck··on Comparison of Rust async and Linux thread context switch time and memory use
var r = await Task.Whenall(f1,f2,f3); Console.WriteLine($"{r[0]}, {r[1]}, {r[2]}");

f1,f2,f3 are all async fn's, that is all you have to do

moocowtruck··on Golang generics proposal has been accepted
"I meant there are no plans for generics. That's not the same as saying we plan not to do generics. It just means we don't have a plan.

The FAQ is still accurate.

-rob"

"The time has come to change Go, given what we have learned over the past decade of using it in production. -rob"

the reason this proposal was accepted is because rob and others liked this plan and said over a decade of production taught them it is an important thing to have, in fact rob asked wadler and company to help get things right for go.. so i would say you'd bet wrong

moocowtruck··on Tesla invests US$1.5B in Bitcoin, ready to take cryptocurrency as payment

moocowtruck··on Robinhood is limiting purchases of stocks: AMC, Blackberry, Nokia, and GameStop
why would people use this site? it seems very unreliable, i tried with many attempts last night to signup and all I get are strange errors..why would i want to conduct serious business through them if they can't simply handle signups
moocowtruck··on Node.js race conditions
i feel like this post creates the problem, and then solves the wrong problem
moocowtruck··on Ask HN: What laptop should I buy in 2021?

moocowtruck··on Pyston 2.1 Is Blowing Past Python 3.8/3.9 Performance
hard for me to be interested since it's closed source
moocowtruck··on Show HN: Teach and learn programming with interactive Blockly coding
I've given my daughters to learn programming through code and visual tools, got them books on both topics and watched as they learned, they all avoided the visual coding like the plague... this interactive visual method to programming seems to never take on, does MIT have any research on why that is?
moocowtruck··on Ethical source movement attempts new kind of software license
yea i don't get it either, i just know i'll steer clear of those things
moocowtruck··on I Almost Got Fired for Choosing React in Our Enterprise App
wow this is very similar to my experience...also in a .net shop now tho which i am only doing because the insane amounts of pay. I even have some old timers who literally told me they "refuse to learn anything new" but have known the boss for decades.. I've learned my lesson to read the situation better in terms of team makeup and company ethos when it comes to suggesting things like react.
moocowtruck··on AWS announces forks of Elasticsearch and Kibana
>This is how they sustain developers to continue working on Elastic Search.

FY20 Revenue of $427.6 million,Up 57% year-over-year (60% in constant currency)

Why would their be a pardon for those treasonous terrorists? You really were expecting that?
moocowtruck··on Again on 0-based vs. 1-based indexing
i have two daughters learning python right now and they did not have an issue with 0 based and i only explained it once.. So i don't think know if i'd say your experience is concensus
moocowtruck··on Confused about ReScript? ReScript, Reason, ReasonML, and BuckleScript explained
