monkmartinez··on My wonderful world of macOS
What does that run you per month? What are you doing on it compute wise?
monkmartinez··on Leaving Python for JavaScript
Why? I mean please elaborate.
monkmartinez··on Leaving Python for JavaScript
I started programming in JS then moved to Python. It seems like JS has become very, very complicated. I look at his post and I am lost... I remember Knockout.js and Node in the v0.8 days.

I mean look at this:

dotenv (lets you load the environment from an .env file), axios
(HTTP client library), cheerio (HTML parsing library), bcrypt
(password hashing), co-body (HTTP body parser), co-busboy (HTTP
multipart parser), jsonwebtoken (JWT generator), koa-jwt (JWT
  middleware), koa-router, koa-sslify, vue-no-ssr and source-map.
What the hell is all that? I am not saying he is wrong... I am just saying that I don't have the capacity to play in that playground. I am also asking if any of those libraries will be around in a year?

> What's a machine?

I would say "machine" means the hardware and/or the operating system of the "server" (which is a fancy word for "computer").

The "and/or" part being very important!

> I'd rather not be spamming the running processes list and have to actually handle seperate processes that should be threads.

I may be a bit naive asking this... but why would you care that much?

Looking at activity monitor on my Mac, I count 14 Google Chrome Helper Process instances each spawning upwards of 13 threads. Adobe does something similar, as do several other programs/applications on my machine. Yet, my machine is mostly idle.

I can only speak for myself here. If I want something done on my computer... I don't care if it spams my process list if that is what it takes to complete the task. Don't crash my machine, but do what you have to do to get it done quickly.

monkmartinez··on Tesla raises $1.8B
That used to be "common" knowledge with pools in my area as well... now they are a liability/nice-to-have based on one's perspective and don't add a dime to value.
monkmartinez··on Tesla raises $1.8B
Normal roof mounted solar doesn't pay for itself unless you plan on staying in the same home for a longggg time.
monkmartinez··on Tesla raises $1.8B
It straight up doesn't make financial sense unless there are massive subsidies. I live in the Desert Southwest where we have 300+ days of sunshine a year. The Industrial Commision has been "compelled" to lower the rates of energy going back into the system. That is, we pay 08-14 cents a kWh with some BS pricing schedules that need a Gantt expert to decode... WHILE we get paid somewhere between 2-5 cents a kWh.

Solar doesn't make sense for me in other ways too... when I average my electricity usage over the year, it is around $98 per month for a family of 4, 2300 sqft home, in Arizona. If I go with solar city my bill would be $120 and I would be in a lease for 20 years. Nah...

Forget about buying the equipment myself as well due to the reasons above. The time that would be required to recoup the "investment" just isn't worth the hassle.

What are the problems with I/O? I am looking at this thread with an eye on buying a windows laptop for dev. instead of a mac.
monkmartinez··on Windows Subsystem for Linux on Windows Server
Your argument is confusing... Can I deploy my Django app on Azure? If the answer is yes, what exactly, is "me too" about that?
monkmartinez··on Windows Subsystem for Linux on Windows Server
Can you clarify the GNU/Linux distinction with regard to the WSL? I mean... isn't the main WSL layer a flavor of Ubuntu?
monkmartinez··on Windows Subsystem for Linux on Windows Server
I don't know why you are being down voted. I switched to OSX to get the sweet NIX underbelly years ago and while not everyone* uses OSX for linux deployments... many, many developers do.
monkmartinez··on AMD Ryzen 3 Linux Benchmarks
I don't know why you are being downvoted (I am no expert), but it seems like the segfaults are a big deal.

monkmartinez··on Mozilla and NSF offer $2M prize to decentralize the web
I don't know why you are being downvoted... I immediately thought Pied Piper, then had a bit of chuckle. Jian Yang!!!!
monkmartinez··on Intel discontinues Joule, Galileo, and Edison product lines
The inertia and fab facility advantages you mention could keep them afloat longer than you might imagine. I agree with many of your points but they, Intel, are not chock full of idiots. There is a lot that can happen in 5 years... I would think very hard about betting significant money against them.
monkmartinez··on Jobs That Artificial Intelligence Will Create
I tried to create a free account and they want a credit card number.... bummer, I would like to read that.
monkmartinez··on Tesla Model X Is First SUV to Achieve 5-Star Crash Rating in Every Category
agreed...That looks like a crossover, not a proper SUV. When I think SUV, I think about a Toyota 4Runner.
monkmartinez··on Tim Cook Says Apple Is Focusing on an Autonomous Car System
I disagree. I naturally ask advise from people who I know to have extensive domain experience. That is, I ask my plumber buddy about the best water heater to buy. I ask my realtor buddy, where are the homes selling the most. and so on.

I get asked all the time about buying laptops. I used to recommend Apple, but it has become very difficult to do so for a myriad of reasons. Lately, I have found that most people can get by with a chrome book after looking at their requirements.

monkmartinez··on Bitcoin VS Ethereum
> But this does not prevent me from paying for my taxes with my labor; I just have to convert my labor into that currency first.

So BTC/ETH are going to become currencies like the dollar or euro and not a painting or a goat which they are equivalent to now? Is that your position?

monkmartinez··on Bitcoin VS Ethereum
Thank you, this is exactly what my rhetorical question was aiming for. If BTC/ETH are investments, fine... that is a world away from currency.
monkmartinez··on Bitcoin VS Ethereum
> A US dollar bill is at the end of the day just a piece of paper - that is assigned a value (that constantly changes) by the market.

Ultimately, the U.S. dollar is backed by the U.S. Military. What is bitcoin backed with?

monkmartinez··on Bitcoin VS Ethereum
Can you pay your taxes with bitcoin or ethereum?
monkmartinez··on Trump 'poised to quit Paris climate deal'
Of course... but I didn't vote for a donkey nor an elephant. 5% or so of us did that. The rest just watch the media that supports their side and votes for the party to which they have declared allegiance. It is an absolutely brilliant system if you are an elite.
monkmartinez··on Trump 'poised to quit Paris climate deal'
Don't we, USA, already have some of the toughest climate laws in the world?
monkmartinez··on Trump 'poised to quit Paris climate deal'
The thing is, half or nearly half the country disagrees with you on paper. I bet its not anywhere near that in practice, as in there is a range of political spectrum. If we had more choice we wouldn't have align to the poles of a bipartisan system.
monkmartinez··on Trump 'poised to quit Paris climate deal'
And what would a "stand" look like, exactly? A "climate tariff" kind of made me laugh, as the repercussions of doing that would not be pretty.
monkmartinez··on Trump 'poised to quit Paris climate deal'
Does anyone share my apathy toward politics in general? My logic is that we have no, as in zero, control over the entire apparatus. In a country with two sides, there will be a natural bifurcation that will not allow for constructive... _anything_. Couple that to the beltway insider club AKA lobbying and you have a situation where only those with serious capital have a voice in the capital.
