Thanks for the insight. Personally I try to firm up a number at the outset that both parties are comfortable with. There should be no reason to deviate from this come offer time if everyone is playing with their cards facing up. Otherwise it makes me question how much a company wants the hire, and/or whether the candidate is joining for the right reasons.
Fair point. A few companies firm up salary expectations right at the outset so come offer time there are no nasty surprises and the number is exactly as discussed i.e. first and final offer. But many others negotiate, thinking it is expected. Personally I think this damages trust. Just wondered what others thought?
Spot on. Salary expectations should be clarified - by all interested parties - at the outset before any meaningful conversations begin. Saves a lot of time and more importantly, builds TRUST.
If you're deemed worthy of an approach in the first place, the least you deserve is an empathetic and professional conclusion, and particularly so in the case of a negative outcome.
