momofarm··on The Accidental HFT Firm (2018)

momofarm··on 100 Gbps achieved from space to Earth
Now they can watch youporn on ISS, don't forget turn it off when livestream on nasa tv.
momofarm··on Chinese students at Cornell “taunt” Uyghur classmate
looks like educated in west world doesn't make these folks more........democated?

maybe one day chinese people will be like Uyghur people, hated by most of the world, force to leave their country, seeking a land to live, and this DID happens before.

(Let's remind to people don't know history of china, lots of regime in mainland china are foreigner from outside, ex: 唐(dang), 元(yuan), 清(ching), and its close to be fully occupied by Japan in last centry. If not Japanese gov decided to hit Pearl Harbour, there will be no CCP dominated in mainland China now, and we may speak Japanese and rest of mainland China will be like a giant colony of Japan)

momofarm··on YouTubeDrive: Store files as YouTube videos
I wonder if we could use this technique at place which gov will censored senstive data upload to streaming site like mainland china or North Korea(they do have streaming site right?)

although for propganda use, shortwave / sat tv is a much much simpler way to distribute information to place like that, but I belive now its hard to get one SW radio for anyone.

momofarm··on Ask HN: Serious mathematics books that can replace a good teacher?
oops

I found that she was an SRE engineer at uber, later she change corse to full time writing at some newspaper agency, what a change.

From physic to software engineering then fulltime writing, not anyone can do that

momofarm··on Ask HN: Serious mathematics books that can replace a good teacher?
his recommendation is quite useful, I've read most of it and found most of them are approachable
momofarm··on Finding Center of Gravity in Backpack
What I am trying to solve is that when we go throghhiking / multiday hiking, we will carry a lot of stuff in backpack(around 12kg ~15kg). If not pack properly, the backpack will pull back, even worse the muscle will get hurt. Some even have hip bruise.

By get the pack right, you can have a more comfy trip, and best of all, save some bucks to (not) buy a new pack (if you are lucky)

momofarm··on Ask HN: how to looking for people eval my idea
there is another weird phenomena I seen on online forums.

Normally, get a not so comfort backpack should quite common, I knew lots of people try lots of backpacks and just can't get the right one. I suspect most of them is because of they pack their bag not (physically, or said in mechanically) wrong.

But I rare seen related content online, only few have issue with bruise hips. (hips!? really, how much you carry could cause bruise hips?)

I wonder if the search technology nowadays are broken (I use google, but sometimes I pay some visit to duckduckgo but get quite the same result)

momofarm··on A real probility problem(or is it?)
already tried, but he just ignore me. And its not the first time he did it.
momofarm··on Thousands of student files lost in error
https://www.usnews.com/education/best-colleges/articles/coll...

but after looking the brief intro of how us colledge doing recruiting students, I believe my gov (Taiwan) is going to the (almost) same way

momofarm··on Thousands of student files lost in error
still exists, but it depends on colledge admission board's decision to take what they want (profilo or exam or both)
momofarm··on Thousands of student files lost in error
quick explain to non-Taiwan guy: ARC (alien resident certificate) ID numbers is like social IDs(SSN). It (was) a separate system to our local resident one, until then.
momofarm··on Thousands of student files lost in error
the portfolios is only part of the overall record for application process. Education ministry also requires students take standard exams.

http://www.jbcrc.edu.tw/multi3.html

its in chinese, and I guess there is no (need) for english version because rich parent who speak English will send kids abroad to better colledges.

momofarm··on Thousands of student files lost in error
well, (at least) he creates jobs.......but I'd rather he pay teacher for higher salary
momofarm··on Thousands of student files lost in error
the point is, there is no backup for 15 days. These guys could be sued for million in US or other country.
momofarm··on Potential organized fraud in ACM/IEEE computer architecture conferences
For doing research in academic, where are the funding from? It's impossible that government could fund every project in states.
momofarm··on Potential organized fraud in ACM/IEEE computer architecture conferences
For some reason, Chinese industry field has some enthusiastic on computer vision and IoT field, but to me those things are worthless junk.
momofarm··on Love Bug worm's creator tracked down to repair shop in Manila
Maybe judge rule him shall not touch computer for life(and for everybody's good?)
momofarm··on Career advice for people with bad luck
Please consult with someone worked in Japan before you actually go. Japanese company culture is very different to us/euro style, and if you can’t speak japanese, you will not be able to blend into their company culture.

Also, Japan IT sector is notoriously messy, think again before you join them

momofarm··on CS Unplugged – Computer Science without a computer

momofarm··on COBOL programmers answer call

momofarm··on Coronavirus: The detectives racing to contain the virus in Singapore
I am wondering, could this being more efficient by the aid of computing.

But when major countries entering massive infection condition, the contact tracing measure looks unnecessary.

momofarm··on Ask HN: What is truly the cutting edge?
maybe the answer is NO, there is nothing new.

If we take a deep look at machine learning, it's just some combination of linear algebra / information theory / neuron network, and it's been there for more than a decade.

All those called "cutting edge" things are based on something already exist. We rarely create / discover new things.

momofarm··on Ask HN: What physical books do you have?
yes, but you need to have time. It's quite time consuming.

the first chapter will introduce you some usage of lisp. Rest of the book will introduce some programming concept. 1. Recursive (tail recursive!) 2. Abstraction 3. State and Concurrency (Lisp has concurrency! what a surprise!) 4. Streams (if you have read this, reactive programming will be piece of cake for you) 5. REPL (read eval print loop) 6. Logic Programming 7. A simple virtual machine 8. and lots more........these are what I remember for now

It will improve your knowledge on programming. WAY BETTER THAN THOSE BOOKS JUST TELL YOU HOW TO USE A SPECIFIC LANGUAGE.

momofarm··on Covid-19 projects looking for volunteers
also there is a machine made by Roche Cobas 8800 and 6800, which can process 4k samples a day.

I don't think some liquid handling machine can outperform this.

momofarm··on Covid-19 projects looking for volunteers
Do you have the full procedure? can you list here?

I know there is a liquid handling machine made by CTC [1], which could handle very small volume of liquid, and do a lot of custom procedures.

Still, cross contamination is still a issue.

momofarm··on Covid-19 projects looking for volunteers
sounds like Agilent / Thermo Scientific / CTC
